Manchester City vs. Manchester United: How to watch FA Community Shield, live stream

The English season gets underway with a rematch of last season’s FA Cup final

Manchester City and Manchester United will face off in the Community Shield on Saturday as the English season gets underway.

The Manchester derby will feature 2023-24 Premier League champion City against the reigning FA Cup winner United.

The Red Devils won that FA Cup against none other than City, defeating Pep Guardiola’s side 2-1 in a shocking result at Wembley in May.

Both teams went on preseason tours of the United States, which ended earlier this week. City only managed one win in four matches, while United won once in three outings.

The Red Devils also saw two key players go down with injury during the tour, as Leny Yoro (foot) is out for three months and Rasmus Højlund (hamstring) will miss a month.

Both teams were at less than full strength on their U.S. tours, and will be closer to their best with a number of players returning from summer breaks ahead of the Community Shield.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of the game.

Pulisic tells Fallon he’ll (maybe) do ‘Three Amigos’ salute if he scores vs. Man City

If Pulisic scores on Saturday, the tension will be enormous

Christian Pulisic didn’t exactly guarantee it, but there seems to be a decent chance the AC Milan star will break out an unorthodox celebration if he scores against Manchester City on Saturday.

Pulisic was a guest on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, as the U.S. men’s national team star made his late-night debut.

The forward was in New York promoting AC Milan’s three-game preseason tour of the USA, which kicks off Saturday at Yankee Stadium against the Premier League champions.

If Pulisic scores in that match, Fallon is hoping he’ll perform a throwback celebration that pays tribute to a movie that was released 12 years before he was born.

Fallon requested Pulisic perform the “Three Amigos” salute, with which the forward understandably didn’t seem to be familiar.

For those, like Pulisic, who don’t remember the 1986 classic starring Chevy Chase, Steve Martin and Martin Short, the salute goes like this:

Fallon reenacted the salute in front of Pulisic and though he didn’t exactly get a guarantee that that USMNT star will honor the John Landis film if he finds the net at Yankee Stadium, it wasn’t a hard no either.

If Pulisic scores on Saturday, the tension will be enormous.

Photos from Manchester City-Celtic FC match at Kenan Stadium

If you’re a soccer fan, take a look at some photos from Manchester City’s international friendly against Celtic FC at Kenan Stadium.

The North Carolina Tar Heels’ football program is lucky to call Kenan Stadium its home.

Situated in the heart of UNC’s campus, Kenan Stadium is amongst the country’s most beautiful college football venues. No matter where you’re sitting inside, you can clearly see pine trees, blue sky, the Bell Tower and other campus buildings.

There are too many memorable games to count inside Kenan, but a few that come to the top of my mind are: Giovani Bernard’s game-winning punt return against NC State in 2012, then North Carolina’s near-upset of top-ranked Clemson in 2019.

Kenan Stadium hosted plenty of UNC lacrosse games in the past, but it’s recently expanded to host a couple of soccer friendlies. Last year was the first-ever international soccer match in Chapel Hill, with Chelsea and Wrexham facing off July 20.

This year – on Tuesday, July 23 – Premier League power Manchester City FC hosted top Scottish club Celtic FC. Celtic won, 4-3, in a game that all in attendance appeared to enjoy.

If you couldn’t make the friendly in person, ESPN2 broadcasted the match. I caught the last 20 minutes of the second half – seeing Kenan, even though it wasn’t for a Tar Heels football game, increased my hunger for the Sept. 7 home opener vs. Charlotte.

Let’s take a look at photos from Tuesday’s match, which featured plenty of Carolina blue:

The champion of England will face the champion of Scotland in a preseason clash in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on Tuesday.

Manchester City and Celtic will meet at Kenan Memorial Stadium in the first of four preseason matches in the United States for Pep Guardiola’s side.

City will be aiming for a fifth straight Premier League title this season, and has returned to the U.S. ahead of the new campaign after touring Asia last summer.

After the game against Celtic, City will face AC Milan in New York, Barcelona in Orlando and Chelsea in Columbus to close out its tour of the United States.

Celtic, meanwhile, has already begun its U.S. tour with a 4-0 win over D.C. United over the weekend. Brendan Rodgers’ side will conclude its three-game tour against Chelsea at Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana on Saturday.

Ten Hag: If Man United doesn’t want me, I’ll go win trophies somewhere else

The manager was in a defiant mood after leading Man United to the FA Cup title

After winning a FA Cup title one day after reports he would be sacked, Erik ten Hag was in a buoyant mood. It was hard to blame him.

Just hours after The Guardian reported that the Manchester United manager would be sacked regardless of whether he pulled off an FA Cup final upset, Ten Hag’s side did just that, stunning Manchester City 2-1 in Saturday’s clash at Wembley.

Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo scored for the Red Devils, who stunned their arch-rivals in the final game of the season.

After the match, Ten Hag was defiant when confronted with the report that his time at the club was done.

“Two trophies in two seasons and three finals,” he said. “It’s not that bad. If they don’t want me, I’ll go somewhere else to win trophies, because that’s what I’ve done all throughout my career.”

Ten Hag led United to a third-place finish in the Premier League last season, his first in charge of the team. This year, though, the Red Devils only managed to finish eighth.

But as the Dutch manager mentioned, he has been hugely successful in domestic cup competitions. United won the Carabao Cup last season, beating Newcastle in the final. The Red Devils also reached the FA Cup final in 2022-23, falling to Man City.

One season later though, United got its revenge against its biggest rival in the final.

The cup final will be a Manchester derby for the second straight year

It will be a Manchester derby in the FA Cup final, as City looks to complete a double and United looks to salvage another disappointing season.

It is a rematch of last season’s FA Cup final, which City won en route to clinching a treble.

City clinched the Premier League title yet again last weekend, while United only managed an eight-place finish.

United will need to win the match to qualify for the Europa League next season, or else there will be no European soccer at Old Trafford in 2024-25.

United will go into Saturday’s match at Wembley as major underdogs, and also with the knowledge it appears likely to be Erik ten Hag’s last game in charge — regardless of the result.

The Guardian reported on Friday that the Dutch manager will be sacked following the game, after two underwhelming years at the helm.

City will enter the match with a mostly clean bill of health, though Stefan Ortega is set to start at goalkeeper with Ederson injured. United will be missing Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire while Mason Mount, Victor Lindelöf and Anthony Martial will be late calls.

Premier League title clinching scenarios: How Man City or Arsenal could lift trophy

The title race is going down to the season’s final day

The Premier League title race is going down to the final day.

Two teams are in the hunt heading into Sunday’s final round of league fixtures, with Manchester City holding a two-point edge over Arsenal.

Man City took a giant step toward its fourth consecutive title on Tuesday, defeating Tottenham 2-0 in north London to take a two-point edge over Arsenal into the weekend.

But the Gunners still have a chance at their first Premier League title since 2003-04. Mikel Arteta’s side, however, will need some help.

Let’s look at the title-clinching scenarios for the  Premier League’s final day.

How could Man City clinch Premier League?

For Pep Guardiola’s side, the calculus is clear: win at home against West Ham, and they’ll be Premier League champions again.

Should Man City lose or tie against the Hammers, they’ll need Arsenal to also lose or tie against Everton in order to win the title.

How could Arsenal clinch Premier League?

The Gunners are in the unenviable spot of needing Man City to end an eight-game Premier League win streak on the final day of the season.

First things first: Arsenal must win at home against Everton to have any chance at the title.

Should the Gunners beat the Toffees, they’ll need West Ham to win or draw at City to clinch their first title in 20 years.
