2023 NFL Draft: Pre-draft morning mailbag on the Detroit Lions

Lions Wire’s Russell Brown answers some great questions about the Detroit Lions and the 2023 NFL draft in this week’s mailbag

It’s pretty remarkable that we’re entering the week of the 2023 NFL Draft. Before we know it, the draft will be over and we’ll be onto which players fit where. While we wait for that to happen, I reached out to my followers on Twitter and the audience of the Lions Wire. I asked everyone to send me questions about the Detroit Lions and the 2023 NFL Draft. With plenty of great questions, let’s jump into this Monday morning mailbag!

Lions mailbag: On NFL draft prospects, Detroit’s strategy and more

Some great questions on Witherspoon, Bijan, pass rushers who can kick inside, QB evaluations and much more

With the NFL draft less than two weeks away, it’s a great time for a Lions/draft mailbag.

The questions were ones not addressed from my recent video mailbag edition at the Detroit Lions Podcast. Too many of them were too good to go unanswered. Thanks to all in the podcast Slack channel for the great questions and ideas!

In conjunction with the Detroit Lions Podcast, we’re back with another video edition of the mailbag. Several interesting questions about the upcoming 2023 NFL draft, the Lions roster status at various positions, draft prospects who would be great and some who would make me cringe, and much more.

The video was recorded on Easter Sunday, so the Jeff Okudah questions were answered well before the trade to the Falcons materialized on Tuesday.

Stay tuned for a bonus, written version of the mailbag with some great questions that didn’t get covered here in the video. Coming soon!

This week’s edition of the Detroit Lions Podcast took on a different form. Due to logistical constraints, we are unable to do a live show. So instead, I did a video mailbag session with questions from members of the show’s Patreon Slack channel.

This edition covers a wide variety of topics, many of them draft-centric. Among the questions broken down:

  • Drafting a wide receiver
  • Where to prioritize a running back
  • What happens with DJ Chark
  • My biggest hits and misses as an evaluator
  • NIL and its impact on draft declarations
  • Senior Bowl players to know for Lions fans heading into next week

The episode was recorded Monday night.

Vikings mailbag: Playoff matches, offseason plans and sustainability

This week’s mailbag has some intriguing questions

The Minnesota Vikings currently sit at 9-2 and have clinched a winning season just 12 weeks into the year.

As they prepare for the New York Jets on Sunday, the Vikings have a chance to sweep the AFC East, something that they have yet to accomplish.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins has been playing tremendous football over the last month, including leading double-digit comebacks against both the Washington Commanders and Buffalo Bills.

Leading into the game against the Jets this Sunday, I put out a call for questions asking about the Vikings in any capacity. We got some good ones and I broke them down here.

The latest episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast featuring Lions Wire’s Jeff Risdon is now available. This one focuses on Sunday’s preseason finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers and what we’ll be watching for as the exhibition season comes to a close.

There is also a lengthy mailbag segment, where we cover questions from viewers on Hard Knocks, offensive line coach Hank Fraley, the linebacking corps and a potential backup QB to consider after roster cutdowns. We even took a couple of calls during the live stream and got some excellent questions there, too. I added a little lesson in shopping cart etiquette to make life better for everyone as well.

The show streams live on YouTube and is also available in audio-only formats from your favorite podcast provider.

It’s time for another edition of the Lions Wire video mailbag!

In conjunction with the Detroit Lions Podcast, I fielded several questions about the Lions and the upcoming 2022 NFL draft. From overarching strategy to specific player breakdowns, we covered quite a few different angles. It wraps with a question on the long-term status and confidence in current QB, Jared Goff, that hopefully helps sort out why the Lions might do what they might do this weekend.
