Trent Williams made history with his 99 rating in Madden NFL 2023

The San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman joins a list of all-time greats.

Trent Williams has become the first-ever offensive lineman in Madden history to become a 99 club member.

On Wednesday, Electronic Arts (EA) informed Williams that he had earned a 99 overall rating in Madden NFL 23 (Thanks, App Trigger). While EA hasn’t officially made an announcement regarding which athletes will be part of this year’s 99 club, NFL running back Adrian Peterson uploaded a video to social media of Williams receiving some kind of gift box commemorating the occasion. That’s all the confirmation you need, really.

Check out the footage in question below. If that massive grin is any indication, Williams is pretty happy about the honor. It’s quite wholesome stuff!

EA adds several of the NFL’s best active players to the 99 club every year. For Madden NFL 22, some of the inductees included Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Ramsey, Travis Kelce, Aaron Donald, and Davante Adams. The list is ever-growing, and it’ll be interesting seeing who else will join this elite club in Madden NFL 23.

Madden NFL 23 will release on Aug. 19, 2022, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The initial gameplay teasers look solid, especially with the new fieldSENSE technology that’ll make passes, sweeps, and tackles appear much more realistic. The legendary John Madden will grace the front cover too.

LOOK: First glimpses of Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel in Madden 23

It’s crazy how far technology has come.

All 32 NFL teams are in the midst of their break between OTAs and minicamp and the start of training camps in late July. That includes the Miami Dolphins who are having their first offseason program run by new head coach Mike McDaniel.

For fans, this is a time to prepare for training camp and the preseason, and some are gearing up for the release of the newest edition of the “Madden” video game franchise.

The game is currently in beta with members of the community testing out some of the different styles of gameplay, as the development team gets feedback and works out the bugs.

With this being McDaniel’s first year as a head coach, this will also be his first year as a coach in the game, and to be honest, the game does a pretty good job capturing his likeness without the glasses.

Now, we just need to get him in some nice shoes, and it’ll be just like real life.

Marlon Humphrey had the perfect reaction to getting posterized in the Madden ’23 trailer

Humphrey noticed a familiar face getting stiff-armed by EA.

The latest edition of the Madden video game franchise is coming soon. The cover, honoring the late John Madden and all he brought to football, looks just about perfect. The gameplay, uh, is certainly also a thing that happens.

Electronic Arts has been slowly trying to build hype for its upcoming flagship release with a series of short video clips displaying the kind of action that makes us all wish NFL 2K were still around. But with little else on the football horizon except for low-impact minicamps until the preseason officially begins, fans and players alike have begrudgingly began to pay attention to a franchise whose graphics and gameplay look more and more like a very nice mobile game.

That includes Ravens’ All-Pro cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who noticed a familiar face (or, more accurately, uniform number) in the brand’s promotional, coming-soon Tweet Sunday:

Yep, that’s virtual Humphrey getting stiffarmed to oblivion by Nick Chubb and real life Humphrey laughing it off, possibly because he’s 7-2 against the Cleveland Browns for his career. Madden ’23 comes out sometime this summer and offers all the same mechanics and features as last year’s game with none of the dynasty mode or customability options football fans are looking for. But Nick Chubb looks pretty good in it!

EA Sports provides early look at Russell Wilson in ‘Madden’ video game

The Broncos are going to be fun again — in real life and in the video game!

We already know what Russell Wilson will look like in a Denver Broncos uniform thanks to photos from practice and the team’s media day.

Now, thanks to EA Sports, we also know what Wilson will look like in Madden, the NFL’s official video game.

The video game’s Twitter page released a teaser video over the weekend showing Wilson in Madden NFL 23 wearing the team’s white road uniform against the New England Patriots.

Wilson fires a pass in the clip but the video cuts short before the end of the play — we can only assume the throw resulted in a touchdown.

Madden also released a video showing off the game’s new “FieldSENSE” and the clip featured another Wilson pass (at the 0:26 mark). This clip also cuts off before the end of the play.

Broncos defensive backs Kareem Jackson and Pat Surtain are also shown breaking up a pass against the Kansas City Chiefs at the 0:53 mark. Unfortunately, Courtland Sutton is also shown failing to catch a pass against the Los Angeles Chargers and Justin Herbert is shown eluding a Denver defender.

Last year, outside linebacker Von Miller (93 overall) was the team’s highest-rated player in Madden NFL 22. Miller’s now with the Buffalo Bills, so Wilson (88 overall last year) will likely be among Denver’s best players in this year’s game.

John Madden is the cover star of ‘Madden NFL 23’ for the first time since 2000 and fans absolutely love it

EA Sports got this one right. It was an easy choice.

If you’ve ever been a fan of the Madden franchise at all, you know one thing is absolutely true ā€” the fans never agree on anything.

Whether it’s something as simple as who the cover star ā€” or stars, in some cases ā€” are, or who the best Madden athlete ever is, or what their favorite player’s rating is. The debates about these things will last forever and ever.

But we’ve finally found one thing everyone actually seems to agree on.

We learned on Wednesday that the late John Madden would be on the cover of Madden 23Ā for the first time in 22 years.

The NFL legend died at 85 years old earlier this year. It just feels right for the game to honor him in this way.

Fans of the game everywhere were thrilled EA Sports made the right choice here.
