A look at Tom Brady’s Madden rating then and now

Take a look at what Tom Brady’s current rating is in Madden compared to his first year in the league.

The Madden NFL 21 rankings were just released, and new Bucs quarterback Tom Brady found himself as the fifth-highest ranked quarterback in the game with an overall rating of 90.

Per Michael Rothstein of ESPN:

“Twenty years after appearing as QB No. 12 in Madden ’01, it’ll be a first for the future Hall of Famer again — a new team. Going from the New England Patriots to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Brady has seen his overall rating drop from a 96 last year to a 90 this season (his worst starting rating since the early 2000s), and moved from second to fifth in QB ratings. This makes sense after Brady had one of his worst statistical 16-game seasons (4,057 yards, 24 touchdowns, 60.8% completions) in a decade. This could be a rating that jumps up quickly, though, considering the offensive options he has around him.”

I think we all expect Brady’s rating to climb this season before it’s all said and done. It may take some time for him to get used to a new offense, but once he and his receivers start clicking they could be one of the toughest teams in the league to stop.

And while seeing his rating drop from 96 to 90 may not be anything to celebrate for Brady, it’s still a lot better than his first rating in Madden.

Take a look.

Can we also just point out the fact that Brady looks better now than he did in 2000? That Florida tan looks good on him.

A look at Michael Pittman Jr.’s surprisingly low Madden rating

The rookie wide receiver ratings are out for Madden 2021, and former USC Trojan Michael Pittman Jr. has some complaining to do.

The NFL season is nearly upon us, and the Madden 2021 ratings are beginning to get released. That included new rookie ratings at quarterback and wide receiver, revealing how the game will value former USC Trojans wideout Michael Pittman, Jr.

Pittman, now with the Indianapolis Colts after getting selected 34th overall, was given an overall grade of 71 by Madden, tying him with Devin Duvernay of the Ravens and Tee Higgins of the Bengals.

There are seven receivers ahead of Pittman, including former PAC-12 foes Brandon Aiyuk and Lavishka Shenault, who each earned a 72 rating.

That is a bit surprising considering most people predict Pittman will produce numbers among the top-5, or even top-3, rookie receivers in 2020. The vertical threat joins a pass-heavy offense in Indianapolis, led by head coach Frank Reich and veteran quarterback Philip Rivers.

Of course, Madden ratings don’t equate to predicted performance, and Pittman’s numbers will almost certainly change as the season goes on – ideally for the better.

Stay tuned for Austin Jackson’s ratings, which will come out when Madden releases their rookie offensive line ratings later this month.

Chase Young, Derrius Guice featured in Madden 21 gameplay trailer

Two redskins stars, Chase Young and Derrius Guice, were both featured in the new Madden 21 trailer, set to come out in August.

Along with being picked No. 2 overall in the NFL Draft and being the undisputed best player in your draft class comes some perks, and one of those is being heavily featured in the new Madden 21 Official Gameplay Trailer.

That’s where Washington Redskins DE Chase Young is this week, as EA Sports released a 90-second clip of their newest rendition of the beloved football video game, which will feature a few new gameplay quirks such as an improved ball-carrier control stick, ‘clutch’ open-field tackling, and user-generated touchdown celebrations.

Chase Young comes into the video at (0:48) when the game delves into the new edge-rushing improvements. Young is shown swimming around the right edge and sacking Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, then again a few seconds later gobbling up Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders in the backfield.

Redskins running back Derrius Guice was also featured hurdling a Carolina Panthers defender early in the video (0:17), but where is Terry McLaurin? As the Redskins hopeful success awaits, get used to seeing some of their players start to pop up on the national stage like this.
