Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo officially ends movie’s controversial audience singing debate

Cynthia Erivo has given the official verdict about singing at the movies.

So many moviegoers have been flocking to see Wicked, including folks like Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, who admitted to singing along in the theatre.

Unfortunately, not everyone has been belting out notes. Some people, like For The Win’s Cory Woodroof, are not huge fans of others singing mid-movie. (Cory recently begged watchers not to sing along — “for the love of Oz.”) However, there’s been a development. One of the film’s biggest stars, Cynthia Erivo, officially settled the controversial singing debate during an appearance on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

How does she feel about the singing? “Good!” Cynthia happily told the TODAY show crew. “I’m okay with it. We spent this long singing it ourselves. It’s time for everyone else to join in. It’s wonderful.” BOOM. CASE CLOSED. Carry on, everyone. (See the 1:07 mark in the clip below.)

New York Liberty and mascot Ellie The Elephant attend rainy Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The New York Liberty and Ellie looked great!

The New York Liberty aren’t done celebrating their stellar WNBA championship win. Thursday, the team appeared during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and Ellie the Elephant was there, too.

As if you expected anything less, just weeks after having its parade, the Liberty made a fantastic appearance in another parade, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day edition. Three-time champ Breanna Stewart, Finals MVP Jonquel Jones, and Finals hero Nyara Sabally were on the streets of New York with the championship trophy in tow.

However, no appearance from New York is complete without help from its sassy counterpart, Ellie The Elephant. Ellie wore an excellent seafoam rain skirt set and danced in the street. You love to see it.

The Bluey balloon horrifyingly popped during inflation before the Thanksgiving Day Parade

“Bluey went Ka-Bluey.” Somebody help her!!!

While it’s always a treat to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade every year, you can always be sure that something will go wrong.

Last year, it was the Monkey D. Luffy balloon deflating in the middle of the parade, much to the chagrin of One Piece fans everywhere.

This year? Aside from the rain, the biggest left turn we’ve gotten so far has been the Bluey balloon popping before the parade. On Wednesday, the character’s balloon popped when the balloons were being inflated.

EVERY BALLOON INCLUDED: Here are all 22 of the balloons included in the parade

This could’ve ended terribly. Think about all the kids who were promised they’d see Bluey flying in the sky on Thursday. They might riot if she isn’t there!

Look at this. You can hear all the disappointment and terror in all the kid’s voices as she loses air.

“Bluey went Ka-Bluey.” Hey, mom. You’re not helping right now.

Luckily for us (and all those parents out there who may have had a Thanksgiving mutiny on their hands), parade workers got Bluey patched up and inflated before the parade.

Here’s more from NBC New York.

“Those who saw it happen described it as a loud pop, and then a gust of wind in their face. They also said parade volunteers or workers told them the balloon would be patched and ready to go for Thursday’s spectacle.”

Today she looks as good as new!

Fly, Bluey. Fly!

Will the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade still go on in the rain? What we know.

It’s going to rain on Thursday.

As of publishing this, it seems like it’s going to rain on Thursday, November 28 2024. Maybe a lot.

And that could mean the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be affected. But here’s the thing: the show will go on (as long as the wind stays relatively calm!).

Here’s what we know, per NBC New York: the parade will go on in the rain, but “The good news is winds are expected to be less than 10 miles an hour, which would mean the balloons could fly. The Thanksgiving Day parade balloons cannot fly if maximum sustained winds are 23 miles per hour or greater, or if gusts exceed 34 miles per hour.”

There you go!

The Macy’s Day Parade’s annual list of who can lip sync better in the cold is here.

Happy Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate.

One of the best times of the year has arrived. It’s getting cold outside. The leaves are turning, and if you observe Thanksgiving, you’re probably arguing about last-minute foods to make or buy and what parts of the 2-24 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade you’ll watch.

The Bell Biv DeVoe and TMNT mashup at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade had millennials in their feelings

Excuse me while I scream hysterically. BBD and TMNT is on!

Holy childhood, Batman. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade brought the heat.

We already knew they had a serious musical lineup planned that included Cher coming to do her annual “I still got it” performance, but come on. Macy’s reached back into the depths of the ’90s and pulled out a Bell Biv DeVoe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collaboration.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! (*Excuse me. Screaming. Be back soon.*)

The unexpected mashup unlocked some serious nostalgia for millennials during Thursday’s parade and had them — I mean me. It’s me. I’m millennials. — shook over how good the performance was.

BBD and TMNT is totally a duo I can get behind. It seems the internet thought so, too.

Straw Hat Luffy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon is deflating and One Piece fans are distraught

LUFFY NOOOOOOOOOO

There’s nothing quite like seeing one of your favorite characters finally get a float in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

It’s a true rite of passage for every iconic character that enters the zeitgeist. You know a character has made it to the top of pop culture when they’re floating through the middle of New York City. It’s a huge moment for fans of that character, too.

That’s why it was so cool to see One Piece’s Monkey D. Luffy getting a float this year as one of the seven new additions to the parade.

All of my anime nerds out there know, man. It’s been a long time coming. One Piece has been running since 1999. We’re over 1,000 episodes in, folks. One Piece isn’t just a show — it’s a way of life. It takes commitment.

Luffy is an absolute icon. He deserves this. That’s why fans were so devastated to see my boy out there with his iconic straw hat deflating and turning into a bucket hat. And by fans I mean me.

LOOK AT MY SON.

LOOK.

They’ve really got my Mugiwara Boy out here looking like Gear 3 just deactivated. I hate to see it. It’s all going wrong, man. And it’s all because of this stupid tree.

WARNING: There is some NSFW language included in this video

Nah, man. Mother Nature and the One Piece fandom are going to have to settle this. Because this isn’t right. How dare that tree ruin Luffy’s big debut.

Fans were so upset by this.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade: How to watch the Rutgers University marching band

The Rutgers University marching band is performing on Thanksgiving at the Macy’s parade.

The famed Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, one of the most iconic moments of the holiday season, will host a performance from the Rutgers University marching band. It is the first-ever appearance of the band in the historic parade.

  • When: Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 23) from 8:30 a.m. to noon
  • How to watch: The parade will be broadcast on NBC and streamed on Peacock

If you missed Rutgers marching live, don’t worry! There will be a rebroadcast of the parade in a shortened form from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Rutgers is one of 11 marching bands that will be performing at the Macy’s parade. The parade went mainstream as a central part of the plot for the original 1947 movie Miracle on 34th Street.

On Monday during his weekly press conference, Rutgers football head coach Greg Schiano gave the band a shoutout.

[lawrence-related id=32358]

“Our band, our band is playing in the Macy’s Day Parade which is really cool, so to them, I want to wish them luck for a great performance,” Schiano said.
