North Carolina outfielder [autotag]Mac Horvath[/autotag] has earned first-team All-Atlantic honors after a historic season.

The announcement came Tuesday, giving credit to Horvath for a remarkable season. The honor comes on the heels of Horvath being selected with Jackson Van De Brake to the All-ACC second team

This year Horvath reached new heights, becoming the first ACC player to have 20 home runs, 20 doubles, and 20 stolen bases in a single season in 24 years. This season, Horvath also delivered a historic four-game stretch, becoming the first Tar Heel in UNC history with 19 RBIs in that amount of games. 

Horvath was the only Tar Heel to make first or second-team All-America, with Wake Forest holding the majority of the slots.

Horvath finishes his junior season with career highs in hits (73), runs (73), home runs (24), RBIs (66), and stolen bases (25). UNC season might not have gone as fans had hoped, but it was an incredible sightseeing Horvath swing onto the scene.

North Carolina Tar Heels Mac Horvath and Jackson Van De Brake have been selected to the All-ACC second team.

Horvath and Van De Brake have been pivotal for the Diamond Heels this year, becoming a force in the ACC. Horvath had a remarkable regular season, writing his name in the history books as the first Tar Heel with 19 RBIs in a four-game stretch. Horvath also became the second ACC player since 1999 to have 20 home runs, 20 stolen bases, and 20 doubles in a single season.

Van De Brake became one of the best second basemen in the ACC this season, finishing with a team-high 68 hits, leading all second basemen in the conference.

The pair joins ACC’s defensive player of the Year Vance Honeycutt as Tar Heels to crack one of the three All-ACC teams. It’s no secret they will be counted on as they look to bring the ACC championship back to Chapel Hill for the second year.

It’s been a season to remember for North Carolina junior Mac Horvath as he became the first ACC player to have 20 home runs, 20 doubles, and 20 stolen bases in a single season in 24 years

Horvath joined Florida State’s Marshall McDougall, who accomplished similar stats in 1999. Earlier this month, Horvath had a historic four-game stretch, becoming the first Tar Heel in UNC history with 19 RBIs in that amount of games. A week later Horvath added to his historic season by becoming the second Tar Heel in school history to notch 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in the same season.

Horvath has been a driving force for UNC, becoming a highlight reel this year. Horvath ends the regular season with 61 RBIs, 21 home runs, and 22 stolen bases.

Horvath and the Tar Heels will be in action this week as they look to repeat as ACC champions.

Mac Horvath makes some history in Diamond Heels win

UNC baseball standout Mac Horvath made history in the win over Gardner-Webb.

As the North Carolian Tar Heels baseball program hits the stretch run of the season, they need to stack some wins with just two weeks left.

On Tuesday, they got this important stretch off to a good start with a 5-4 win over Gardner-Webb. While there was a heated moment late in the game with UNC trailing, the Tar Heels were able to rally and get the last laugh. And in the process, one of their star players made some history.

Mac Horvath hit a home run in the third inning of the game, giving him 20 on the year. With that home run, he became the second player in school history to hit 20 home runs and have 20 stolen bases in the same season.

Horvath has been fantastic for the Tar Heels this season and if they want to make a run in the postseason, they are going to need Horvath and others to step up.

Diamond Heels’ third baseman [autotag]Mac Horvath[/autotag] has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week

Horvath has played amazing as of late, using his bat to swing North Carolina to a 3-1 record last week, including a series win over Virginia Tech. Horvath’s hitting was on full display in the four games, with 19 runs thanks to a grand slam and three separate three-run homers. The four games were historic for Horvath, becoming the first Tar Heel in UNC history with 19 RBIs in a four-game span. 

The week was full of highlights for Horvath, and it is a no-shocker that he enters this week with such an honor. 

The Junior is 11th in the nation for home runs (19) and is 25th in total RBIs (56). Horvath already has three more RBIs than he did all last season and is currently at his career high for HRs in a season.

The Diamond Heels will return on Tuesday to host the Campbell Fighting Camels for Teacher Appreciation Night.

Diamond Heels take care of business at home

No. 13 UNC blast by VCU in a 10-4 victory on Tuesday night in Chapel Hill.

The North Carolina baseball team was in action Tuesday, and the bats were swinging early.

UNC hosted VCU in perfect 74-degree weather. Junior right-hand pitcher Jake Knapp got the start and was dealing early, with VCU starting with three scoreless innings.

In that same span, North Carolina had their bats hot out the gate, with Tomas Frick getting the first points on the board with a home run blasted to left field. Alberto Osuna matched Frick with a homer of his own in the same inning.

Frick’s bat continued to stay hot, hitting another home run in the third inning, but this time bringing in two runners for a three-run RBI.

The home run party continued in the fourth inning, with Vance Honeycutt getting in on the action. Mac Horvath became the fourth Tar Heel to homer, blasting one to left center in the sixth inning.

North Carolina would homer again in the eighth inning by Honeycutt, capping off a day full of hits. UNC takes it 10-4, improving to 5-3 on the season.

Mac Horvath earns player of the week honors

Diamond Sports selected Mac Horvath as one of the players of the week.

North Carolina third baseman [autotag]Mac Horvath[/autotag] has been named one of the week’s collegiate baseball players.

Horvath was one of 18 players named by Diamond Sports, with the Tar Heel representing the third baseman. In 17 plate appearances, Horvath delivered three home runs, three doubles, and five RBIs.

The junior was a big part of their success last season, stepping up in a big way to help North Carolina win the ACC tournament.

This season, UNC has gotten off to a sluggish start, 4-3 overall, with their last loss coming against ECU. A slow start is familiar for the Diamond Heels. However, they were on the cusp of fighting for a tournament bid before completely turning their season around.

On Tuesday, North Carolina will be back in action to take on VCU in Chapel Hill.
