Look, Luis Robert Jr. is a star even if he’s having a rough year, and the trade rumors about the Cuban outfielder during the Chicago White Sox’s horrible season can’t help.
But: you’ve got to show some effort.
With a tie game in the ninth inning and the Cleveland Guardians’ winning run on third, Josh Naylor hit a fly ball to Robert. Now, the ball was definitely hit far enough for the runner to score, but like running to first base, you have to show that you’re trying.
And Robert didn’t even attempt the throw. Fans weren’t too happy about that:
Serious question: given that this is a tie game in the bottom of the 9th and the run scoring from 3B will end the game, what possible excuse exists for Luis Robert to not come up throwing on this shallow sac fly? Is there any conceivable reason? Injured? pic.twitter.com/xYa7NDsyE7

People are upset at Luis Robert here for his “effort.” He had 4 RBIs tonight, over 66% of our total runs.
We are 24-63. He feels hopeless because the White Sox are hopeless.
Be mad at Jerry or Getz or Grifol. This play is a product of their incompetence.pic.twitter.com/5CwkbCwLxn
