LSU vs ULM: Five takeaways from the 62-point victory

LSU was balling in their season opener.

Well, that was ugly.

For the opposing team, at least. LSU dominated ULM 101-39 (the 62 point win tied for fourth-largest margin of victory in program history) in one of the more impressive season openers across college basketball, if not statiscially the most impressive.

However, this outcome was somewhat expected. ULM was coming off of a 9-17 year where they had major issues scoring the basketball. Against LSU’s pace and athleticism, the Warhawks seemingly had no hope.

This was a much needed explosion on both ends of the floor for an LSU team that is dealing with some outside pressure, specifically on its head coach.

Here are five takeaways from LSU’s blowout win over the ULM Warhawks.

Darius Days leads LSU to victory over ULM in season opener

LSU dominates ULM, Darius Days sets career-highs.

LSU Tigers men’s basketball and head coach Will Wade are back. On Tuesday night they opened the 2021-22 campaign with an in-state matchup against ULM. The Warhawks were able to keep it close early on in the game but that didn’t last long.

The story of the game was the blistering hot start by Darius Days, he was absolutely on fire all game long. He set career highs in points scored and three-point shots made. He also added six rebounds as the Tigers’ offense scored 101 points on the night.

The LSU bench even got into the act with 32 points led by Tari Eason’s 11 points and 10 rebounds. The 6’8″ forward did all of that on 21 minutes of play. The Tigers were able to get the fastbreak rolling with 24 points and 22 second-chance points. They were also able to get the points inside against the Warhawks.

On the night LSU averaged 1.4 points per possession and led for 39:32 of the 40 minutes played. Just total domination from the basketball team in a game they were expected to win convincingly.

The Tigers will be back on the court Friday as they host Texas State.

LSU vs UL-Monroe: How to watch the men’s basketball opener

LSU men’s basketball tips off the 2021-22 season on Tuesday night.

Opening night for LSU Tigers men’s basketball season has finally arrived. Last year head coach Will Wade led the team to a 19-10 season and a round of 32 appearance in the NCAA tournament.

The Tigers and Warhawks were set to play last year but pushed back to 2021-22 season due to the pandemic. Over the last three years, LSU leads the SEC with 39 conference wins and is the only team to finish in the top three each year.

Wade and the Tigers get ready for another run at the SEC crown and it all begins on Tuesday night. Darius Days will lead the team as he returns for his fourth season. Days averaged 11.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game last season. According to LSU’s press release, the Tigers were 19-1 when Days scored double digits.

Former Missouri guard Xavier Pinson makes his LSU debut after averaging 13.6 points per game a season ago. ULM is led by former LSU assistant Keith Richard.

LSU vs ULM: Kickoff time and TV network revealed

Another night game in Death Valley.

This week the LSU Tigers will host the Arkansas Razorbacks in prime time. Next week they will have their final nonconference game of the year with the ULM Warhawks.

It will be another prime-time game at Death Valley when the two Lousiana schools meet on the football field at Tiger Stadium. LSU tweeted out the network announcement for the game set for 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2.

The Tigers and Warhawks have met a total of three times in their history with LSU coming out victorious in each game. ULM has scored only seven points in the series.

Provided that the Tigers can get a win on Saturday against Arkansas, this game could set up the team for bowl eligibility. According to the FPI numbers, LSU has a 97.1% win probability for this game against the Warhawks.
