Kickoff time and channel confirmed for LSU’s meeting with Vanderbilt

The time and channel for LSU’s meeting with Vanderbilt were confirmed on Monday

LSU’s start time against Vanderbilt on Saturday was confirmed on Monday.

The Tigers and Commodores kick off at 6:45 PM CDT on the SEC Network. The prime-time matchup marks the fourth straight night game in Death Valley.

Vanderbilt travels to Baton Rouge for the first time since 2009 as the last three meetings between the schools were played in Nashville.

Back-to-back home games to end the season give the Tigers a chance to end on a high note after three-straight losses, but Vanderbilt poses a real threat.

Led by dual-threat quarterback Diego Pavia, head coach Clark Lea’s team upset Alabama and fell to Texas by a field goal. Vanderbilt also picked up wins over Kentucky and Auburn, giving them their first ranking in the AP poll since 2013.

Lea is a former assistant of Kelly’s, working on his staff at Notre Dame.

Though they don’t currently rank in the top 25, the Commodores still receive votes heading into their matchup with the Tigers.

What chance does ESPN’s FPI give LSU of winning out?

What chance does ESPN’s FPI give LSU of winning out?

With three games left on the schedule, LSU football can still make the SEC title if it wins out. The Tigers need some things to fall their way, but it’s less complicated than you’d think.

LSU begins the final stretch with a road game at Florida this weekend before returning home for contests against Vanderbilt and Oklahoma. I’d expect LSU to be favored in all three, but nothing on that schedule is “easy.”

What chance does LSU have of winning out?

According to ESPN’s FPI, LSU has a 20% chance of finishing the year 3-0. As for winning the conference, LSU has a 3.6% chance.

For LSU to have a shot at another 10-win season in the bowl game, Brian Kelly and company need to take care of business in the final three. This week’s game may be the hardest of the bunch, especially if Florida QB DJ Lagway suits up and is ready to go.

For those interested in a Cinderella story, LSU has a 0.05% chance of making the national championship game.

Kickoff time for LSU’s week 12 meeting with Florida announced

The kickoff time for LSU’s week 12 meeting with Florida was unveiled on Monday

The kickoff time for LSU football’s final road game of the year was unveiled on Monday. LSU’s week 12 meeting with the Florida Gators on Nov. 16 will get underway at 2:30 PM CT.

The game will be broadcast on ABC, a spot LSU is getting familiar with. Playing at Florida is never easy, but LSU should be pleased with avoiding a primetime kickoff.

The Gators are in the midst of a brutal stretch on their schedule. Florida played Georgia last week and has Texas this week. A game against LSU brings yet another meeting with a ranked conference opponent.

LSU will look to keep its winning streak vs. Florida alive. The Tigers have won five straight, last dropping one to the Gators in 2018.

We don’t know what the stakes will be yet. If LSU beats Alabama on Saturday, Brian Kelly’s group will be fighting for a playoff spot down the stretch. If LSU loses, the Tigers might have to find something else to play for.

Could potential tropical storm impact LSU vs. Alabama game?

Could LSU and Alabama be affected by a potential tropical storm developing in the gulf?

Hurricanes and tropical storms remain on the radar for LSU football fans throughout the fall. The 2024 hurricane season is nearing an end, but it’s not over just yet with another potential development in the Gulf of Mexico.

Right now,  the storm remains unnamed and is referred to as “Potential Tropical Cyclone 18.”

It’s early in the forecasting stage, but if it develops, the storm could affect the LSU and Alabama game scheduled for Saturday night.

A message from the National Weather Service on Monday morning read: “The system is forecast to enter the Western Gulf of Mexico later this week, but given significant uncertainties in long-range forecast track and intensity, it is too soon to determine what if any, impacts could occur. Residents in this area should regularly monitor updates to the forecast.”

Storm-affected games aren’t a new thing for LSU. Several contests throughout the years were moved or rescheduled thanks to a hurricane or tropical storm. Given where we are in the season, rescheduling this one will be tough.

Neither school has an open date remaining.

If the storm continues to develop, look for LSU to put out a statement later this week.

Nick Saban returning to LSU with College Gameday in week 11

Nick Saban will be in Baton Rouge next week. Except this time he’s on a TV set and not the sideline.

With College Gameday selecting the LSU-Alabama meeting for its week 11 destination, it means a return to Baton Rouge for Nick Saban.

Perhaps no man is more familiar with this rivalry than Saban, who coached at LSU from 2000-2004 before he built his dynasty at Alabama from 2007-2023. Saban led LSU to a national title in 2003 and added six more rings at Alabama.

He’ll be remembered for his time at Alabama, but Saban often speaks highly of his years in Baton Rouge.

Saban’s last public appearance in Baton Rouge was in 2022 — when Brian Kelly and Jayden Daniels upset Saban’s Crimson Tide squad.

Now that Saban is off the sideline, he’ll have a chance to appreciate LSU and Baton Rouge in a different way. I’d expect Gameday to lean into the storyline, playing with the energy from the crowd.

Saban’s 48 wins at LSU rank fifth in program history. His .750 win percentage ranks second, only behind Les Miles, among LSU coaches with two or more seasons.

LSU and Alabama each have open weeks in week 10, but the game is college football’s premier matchup in week 11.

College Gameday announces LSU vs. Alabama as week 11 destination

College Gameday is headed to Baton Rouge for LSU’s meeting with Alabama

College Gameday is heading to Baton Rouge. The show announced LSU vs. Alabama as its week 11 destination.

Gameday is no stranger to the LSU and Alabama game. This will be the show’s 13th time at the game — tying LSU and Alabama with Penn State and Ohio State for the show’s most frequent matchup.

The pick makes sense. The game is the only one on the week 11 slate featuring two top-15 teams. The only other ranked vs. ranked game is Georgia at Ole Miss, but it’s LSU getting the primetime slot on ABC.

This will be LSU’s second College Gameday appearance of 2024. The Tigers were featured earlier this year when Gameday was in Colombia for LSU’s win over South Carolina.

Gameday is taking its first trip to LSU since Oct. 12, 2019, when Joe Burrow led LSU to a win over Florida. Overall, this will be LSU’s 36th appearance on the show and 14th time hosting the show in Baton Rouge.

Nick Saban’s presence on Gameday will bring a new flavor to the show as he returns to his old stomping grounds. Fans should also expect Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit to be on the call for ABC.

LSU softball unveils 2025 nonconference schedule

LSU softball unveiled its complete 2025 schedule on Friday

LSU softball has its 2025 schedule. LSU released its complete 30-game nonconference slate, joining its 21-game conference schedule.

LSU will open the year on Feb. 7, hosting the Tiger Classic in Tiger Stadium.

“LSU’s nonconference slate features five tournaments – four at Tiger Park – and six midweek contests. Overall, the Tigers will play 39 games against 18 teams that reached the 2024 NCAA tournament, including four teams in the Women’s College World Series,” LSU wrote in a press release.

The Tigers are coming off a 44-17 season that came to an end against Stanford in the Super Regional.

LSU’s last WCWS appearance was 2017 — a mark Beth Torina would like to change in 2025. LSU’s schedule isn’t getting easier with Oklahoma and Texas joining the league. Oklahoma is in the midst of a dynasty and will expect to control the conference from the jump.

SEC play will begin on March 14 vs. Kentucky.

Will ESPN’s College Gameday head to LSU in week 11?

Will ESPN’s College Gameday be at LSU in week 11?

LSU is off week 10, but the Tigers’ have their biggest game of the year on the horizon in week 11. LSU will host the Alabama Crimson Tide in what’s a defacto college football playoff elimination game.

An LSU win keeps Brian Kelly’s team in the hunt for the SEC. A loss would likely relegate LSU to a simple bowl game.

The LSU-Alabama game is always one of the top games on the slate. It usually comes with SEC and national title implications, featuring future NFL players on both sidelines.

Next week is no different. LSU vs. Alabama is one of just two ranked matchups in week 11, making it a prime candidate for ESPN’s [autotag]College Gameday.[/autotag]

LSU’s main competition will be Georgia at Ole Miss, but ABC already handed LSU-Alabama the ABC primetime slot.

Gameday is yet to show up to Baton Rouge this year, but the LSU helmet has already been featured once when Gameday stopped in Colombia for LSU’s meeting with South Carolina.

Gameday is no stranger to LSU and Alabama meetings — it’s one of the most heavily featured matchups in the show’s history. An announcement should come late Saturday or early Sunday, but I’d expect LSU has a good shot of landing ESPN’s premier show.

How LSU’s schedule gives the Tigers a strong chance to make College Football Playoff

LSU football’s schedule in 2024 sets the Tigers up for success.

LSU hired [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] to return the program to the College Football Playoff. With the tournament expanding to 12 teams, LSU will want to do a bit more than just make it. However, that’s the first step.

LSU lost a lot after 2023. You won’t see many teams that lost a Heisman QB, two first-round receivers, two leading rushers and two draft picks on the interior defensive line in the playoff conversation. Yet, this is LSU and the expectation is to reload, not rebuild.

The Tigers feel good about the offense with a strong offensive line protecting QB [autotag]Garrett Nussmeier[/autotag]. On defense, a step forward is possible too, though depth at some positions remains an issue.

The good news? LSU’s schedule sets the Tigers up for success. LSU has the chance to be favored in every game this year, giving the Tigers a shot at 10-2 or better.

LSU plays just two teams with a win total equivalent to LSU’s. Those are Alabama and Ole Miss, but both games are in Tiger Stadium and early betting lines have LSU as the slight favorite.

After that, you could argue Texas A&M and Oklahoma pose the biggest threat to LSU. The A&M game is on the road and despite LSU looking like the better team, that could be enough to make A&M a small favorite. Still, the Aggies have a first-year head coach and you don’t know what you’re going to get.

LSU gets Oklahoma to close the regular season in Death Valley. The Sooners have a tough schedule and could be beaten up by this point. The point is, both of those are more than just winnable games.

The key for LSU could be avoiding the season-opening letdown that has plagued the Tigers since 2019. Despite being favored in its last four openers, LSU is 0-4 in that stretch. Two of those came under [autotag]Ed Orgeron[/autotag], but Kelly has struggled in the same spot.

LSU’s defense won’t have all of its problems solved by week one and stopping Lincoln Riley’s offense could prove to be a challenge, but LSU is a touchdown favorite right now.

I don’t expect LSU to go 12-0, but if the Tigers can go 4-1 against USC, Ole Miss, Alabama, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, it’s hard to imagine LSU far from a playoff spot.

Even going 3-2 against those teams gives LSU a chance. 4-1 is the ideal mark though, because that offers room for error elsewhere.

Tiger fans should be happy with how this schedule is set up. As far as SEC schedules go, it’s on the easier side. Missing Georgia and Texas is a plus and you can’t ask for much more than getting your toughest games at home.

Ranking the toughest games on LSU’s 2024 schedule

What are LSU football’s toughest games in 2024?

With signing day and the first transfer portal window in the rearview, 2024 rosters are beginning to take shape.

That means we’re starting to get a better grasp of what schedules mean for team’s in 2024.

Moves are still being made that will have an effect on LSU’s schedule. UCLA is in the middle of a head coaching search and Alabama just made a change at offensive coordinator after Ryan Grubb left for the NFL.

But a lot of the dust is already settled. Here, we’ll rank LSU’s 2024 games from easiest to toughest. Let’s jump right in, starting with an FCS matchup against Nicholls.
