Angel Reese to make WNBA debut with Chicago Sky on Wednesday night

Angel Reese will make her rookie debut with the Sky on Wednesday night against the Dallas Wings.

Former LSU women’s basketball star [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] is set to make her first appearance as a professional basketball player on Wednesday.

Reese will make her WNBA rookie debut as the Chicago Sky opens the season against the Dallas Wings on the road at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. Reese won a national title with LSU while playing in Dallas.

Unfortunately for LSU fans hoping to catch her debut, the game will not be televised and will only be available with a WNBA League Pass subscription. However, Chicago will face Dallas again on Saturday, and that game will air nationally on NBA TV.

A two-time First Team All-American at LSU after transferring in from Maryland, Reese was the seventh overall pick in the WNBA draft earlier this spring. With the Sky, she’s now paired up with a former college rival in former South Carolina center Kamilla Cardoso.

Former LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese appears as an answer on Jeopardy

Angel Reese was featured as an answer on “Jeopardy!” as she prepares for her debut with the Chicago Sky.

First-round WNBA draft pick [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] and the Chicago Sky are preparing for their regular season opener on Wednesday night, but in the meantime, Reese got some recognition on one of the most well-known and long-running shows in America.

She was featured as an answer on the game show Jeopardy!, with the clue coming in the category “Sports Jeopardy! Live Again!”

“After grabbing 20 rebounds vs. Iowa & Caitlin Clark in 2024, this LSU star used her vogue photo shoot to declare for the WNBA draft,” the clue read.

Reese was a two-time First Team All-American during her time at LSU, leading the program to its first national title in 2023.

Reese was the seventh overall pick in the WNBA draft, and she’s now paired up with her former college rival in Kamilla Cardoso from South Carolina, who the Sky also took in the top 10 at third overall.

Angel Reese elaborates on why she chose Reebok for shoe deal

Angel Reese signed a shoe deal with Reebok back in October.

Back in October 2023, LSU women’s basketball star [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] chose which brand she was going to sign a shoe deal with. Reese chose to sign for a signature shoe with Reebok.

During her last season at LSU, Reese averaged 18.3 points per game and 13.4 rebounds per game. She attempted to help lead the Tigers back to another national championship appearance but unfortunately, LSU fell short.

Reese then became the No. 7 overall pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft. She was drafted by the Chicago Sky. The Sky also selected Kamilla Cardoso from South Carolina in the first round.

Recently, Reese was asked why she chose to sign a shoe deal with Reebok, here is what she had to say.

“So many different shoe companies wanted to work with me. But I chose Reebok,” Reese said. “What was it about Reebok? One, they don’t have a women’s basketball player [as] a face. So I wanted to be that.”

“Two, Shaq. You know my relationship with Shaq. And three, I like how they’re rebranding everything and they’re letting me be the creator behind everything I want to do. So I’m having my own shoe line coming out, merch with my name on it. … Y’all like what I wear, y’all like how I dress, y’all like my style. I wanted to incorporate that into Reebok.”

The WNBA regular season starts soon, and Reese will hope to make an impression as a rookie with the Chicago Sky.

Watch Angel Reese find new Chicago Sky teammate Kamilla Cardoso for impressive dish in WNBA preseason

Once rivals in college, the new WNBA teammates already seem to have a nice connection.

[autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] and Kamilla Cardoso were once rivals on the basketball court.

Playing for LSU and South Carolina respectively, the pair went head-to-head three times in college, all of which were high-leverage matchups including an SEC championship game. But now, the pair have joined forces after they were both taken in the top 10 of the 2024 WNBA draft by the Chicago Sky.

The pair of rookies made their preseason debut with the Sky on Friday night, and it seems they’re already building a nice connection. Reese found Cardoso, who was cutting to the basket, on a silky smooth pass as she picked up the assist.

In addition to her contributions distributing, Reese nearly totaled a double-double in her WNBA debut, finishing the game with 13 points and nine rebounds. Chicago lost the game to the Minnesota Lynx 92-81, however.

South Carolina’s Dawn Staley raves about Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso pairing in WNBA

Two college rivals are now set to join forces in the WNBA.

Two big-time college rivals are now set to join forces in the WNBA.

The Chicago Sky selected South Carolina center [autotag]Kamilla Cardoso[/autotag] third overall and later took LSU forward [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] with the seventh pick in the 2024 WNBA draft on Monday night. Now, two players who faced head-to-head multiple times in college will unite to create one of the toughest frontcourt groups in the league.

Speaking recently on 670 The Score, Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley had high praise for both players and said she was excited to see them play together.

“Kamilla is the ultimate competitor,” Staley said. “Angel Reese — ultimate competitor. We had a lot of battles, last year and this season. We were the top two teams in the SEC, so you know they are enemies by nature because of rivalry. But now they’ve joined hands in hopefully bringing a WNBA championship to Chicago. I’m a fan. I’m gonna get me some season tickets. I know I won’t be there the entire season. But somebody’s gonna be sitting in my seats cheering Kamilla Cardoso on.”

The pair will look to bring the Sky their second championship in franchise history after they won the WNBA in 2021.
