Angel Reese’s WNBA rematch against Caitlin Clark is most expensive game on record

The rematch between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark will cost an average of $271 a ticket.

[autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] and the Chicago Sky are set for a rematch on Sunday against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever in a game that will pit the two favorites to win Rookie of the Year against each other once again.

Rivals at the college level, the duo played high-profile matchups in the NCAA tournament against each other in each of the last two seasons, including the 2023 national championship game. It shouldn’t be a surprise that their WNBA matchups have drawn quite a bit of attention, as well.

According to Front Office Sports, Sunday’s matchup in Chicago will carry a price tag of $271 a ticket on average, making it the most expensive WNBA game on record.

As Front Office Sports notes, the game also has a good chance of setting WNBA viewership records on ESPN.

The growth of the sport of women’s basketball is undeniable, both at the college and pro level and with many more matchups between these two coming in the future, we may see that ticket price record broken again.

Angel Reese sets WNBA rookie record for consecutive double-doubles

Angel Reese continues to make history during her rookie WNBA campaign.

[autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] has been red-hot to start her WNBA career as she remains in the mix for Rookie of the Year honors, and she’s continuing to make her mark on the league record book.

On Thursday, Reese became the first rookie in WNBA history to record double-doubles in seven consecutive games. She scored 16 points on 7 of 13 shooting while adding a career-high 18 rebounds, three steals and two assists in an 83-72 win for the Chicago Sky over the Dallas Wings.

With that outing, she surpassed the marks set by Tina Charles and Cindy Brown in 2010 and 1998, respectively. The rookie record for total double-doubles is also held by Charles at 22, but Reese has a chance to break that record as well with eight double-doubles on the year and 26 games remaining.

“I’m just happy we finally won, and at home,” Reese said on the postgame broadcast. “It’s super exciting for myself. I try to give myself some grace and tell myself I’m doing a good job. But I have so much more to grow and I’m just excited to be in this league and excited to win some more.”

Reese is averaging a double-double on the season with 12.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. Her field-goal percentage leaves a bit to be desired at 38.6%, but she has shot 50% or better in three of her last five games.

Caitlin Clark discusses why people like watching her and Angel Reese

Caitlin Clark discussed why people tune in to watch her and Angel Reese.

The Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky met for the second time this year on Sunday, providing the basketball world with another match between rookie sensations Caitlin Clark and [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag].

Clark and Reese have proven to be must-see TV from the moment they burst on the scene a few years ago, especially when they square off against one another.

Clark talked about the attention they draw on Sunday, offering her thoughts on it.

“I think what (Angel’s) done with her platform has been absolutely incredible. She has an entire fanbase that’s supported her. What she did at Maryland and LSU, obviously I’ve played her for a very long time and she’s been a tremendous player,” Clark said.

“It’s been fun getting to compete against,” Clark said, “I think it’s been really good for the game. People just love seeing great matchups.”

Clark went on to discuss how people might tune in for her and Reese, but find other players they like in the process, growing the game.

Sunday was the third time Clark and Reese have met since early April and it wasn’t without its usual intensity. Reese was called for a flagrant after making a play on Clark driving through the lane.

“It’s just part of basketball,” Clark said after the game.

The Fever came out on top Sunday with Clark scoring 23 points. Reese continued to impress with another double-double.

The two will meet again on Friday, Aug. 30.

Angel Reese continues to set records in WNBA

Angel Reese is working hard to try to earn Rookie of the Year honors.

Since arriving in the [autotag]WNBA[/autotag], [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] has been one of the most polarizing players in the league. Of course, everyone wanted to know how her Rookie season would stack up against [autotag]Caitlin Clark[/autotag]. The [autotag]Chicago Sky[/autotag] drafted Reese and Clark was drafted by the Indiana Fever.

Recently, Reese continued climbing up the leaderboard among the Rookies as she earned her fifth-straight double-double to become the fourth rookie in WNBA history to have a double-double in five straight games.

The Chicago Sky have been struggling this season. In their last game, they lost to Clark and the Indiana Fever, 91-83. With that, their record dropped to 4-9 overall and the Sky are 2-8 in their past 10 games. They are the No. 5 team in their own division out of six total teams and they are the ninth-best overall team in a league with 12 total teams.

Angel Reese reveals ‘Welcome to the WNBA’ moment from her first career game

Angel Reese has had a promising start to her career, but she said she had a wake-up call in her first game.

While her oft-discussed field-goal percentage leaves a bit to be desired, [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] has had an overall strong showing as a rookie in the WNBA for the Chicago Sky.

Through her first 11 games, the Rookie of the Year candidate is averaging 12.4 points and 9.6 rebounds as her physical style of the play around the boards seems to be translating to the WNBA level.

That doesn’t mean it’s always been smooth sailing, however. While speaking to CBS Sports, Reese said she had a “Welcome to the WNBA” moment in her first career game against Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx, a three-time All-Star and former Rookie of the Year winner.

“I feel like I’ve had a lot of moments, Welcome to the WNBA moments,” Reese said. “… So I think my first game was against Minnesota, and I played Napheesa (Collier), and, of course, she’s a great player. And I was getting cooked the first game, I’m not gonna lie.”

In the preseason showdown, Reese still finished with 13 points in 24 minutes while leading the team with nine rebounds. She added two steals and a block, shooting 9 of 10 from the free throw line, but she had a pair of turnovers and shot just 2 of 8 from the field.

Reese continues to improve since then, however, and she seems to be justifying the top 10 pick Chicago used on her.

Kim Mulkey attends former LSU star Angel Reese’s WNBA homecoming

“I want people to realize Kim Mulkey loves you off the court too. And she’ll support you no matter what. She’s like a mother to me,” Angel Reese said

It was a homecoming of sorts for [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] as she returned to the DMV area on Thursday night for the Chicago Sky’s game against the Washington Mystics.

Reese had a lot of family members on hand for what was a 79-71 victory over the winless Mystics, but she also had a special guest in attendance: LSU women’s basketball coach [autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag].

The two shared some special moments before the game, in which Reese recorded her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Reese has had a strong start to her rookie season and leads WNBA rookies in several categories despite her field-goal percentage being a problem so far.

“I’m just happy she loves me, supports me,” Reese said of Mulkey after the game. “I want people to realize Kim Mulkey loves you off the court too. And she’ll support you no matter what. She’s like a mother to me, she calls me still, she checks in on me making sure I’m good. Checks on my family, calls my grandma.

“It’s a relationship a lot of people obviously fail to realize and don’t see, I love coach Mulkey. Go Tigers.”

While Mulkey has a tough-love approach at times, it’s clear she has an quite impact on her players’ lives.

Angel Reese, other Chicago Sky players harassed outside team hotel

Angel Reese and other Sky players were accosted by a fan with a camera looking for Chennedy Carter as the team got off its bus.

According to social media posts from [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] and other Chicago Sky players on Wednesday night, the team was harassed as it was getting off its team bus outside its hotel in Washington, D.C.

Per CBS Sports, the team was approached by a man who was holding a camera and looking for Chennedy Carter, who was the subject of some controversy a few days ago when she committed a hard foul off the ball on Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark.

Team security was ultimately able to de-escalate the situation, reportedly escorting him away without the need to involve the police.

Reese and the Sky sit at 3-5 on the season and will take on the Washington Mystics on Thursday night.
