Angel Reese announces she will miss remainder of WNBA season with wrist injury

Angel Reese’s impressive rookie campaign has unfortunately come to an end.

While many LSU fans were either in Tiger Stadium or watching the Tigers take on Nicholls State from another venue, [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] dropped some huge news.

Reese took to her social media to announce that she will be out for the rest of the 2024 season due to a wrist injury. The injury occurred during the [autotag]Chicago Sky[/autotag]’s 92-78 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday.

The 2024 Rookie of the Year candidate had a great season before this injury. She had played in 34 games and made 34 starts. She averaged a double-double as she averaged 13.6 points per game and 13.1 rebounds per game.

Right now, the Sky are 12-22 and fighting for the No. 8 seed in the WNBA Playoffs. They hold the tiebreaker over the Sparks and are hanging on to the final playoff spot by a thread. Our thoughts and prayers are with Reese as we hope she recovers soon and can come back stronger than ever.

Angel Reese becomes first WNBA player with back-to-back 20 rebound games

Angel Reese continues to make her mark in the record book as a rookie.

Angel Reese’s dominance on the boards has continued during the back half of her rookie campaign, and the Chicago Sky star set another record on Friday.

With a 13-point, 20-rebound performance in a loss to the Connecticut Sun, Reese also became just the seventh WNBA player with multiple 20-rebound games and the fourth with two in the same season.

Reese set the WNBA record for consecutive double-doubles earlier this season with 15, and she now has 21 double-doubles in 28 career games. That puts her just two away from tying what is the Sky and WNBA rookie single-season record.

She’s also the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 20 double-doubles in a season.

Reese is averaging a mark of 12.6 rebounds per game, a mark that would be the best in a single season in WNBA history. She’s also on pace to set single-season records for total rebounds and offensive rebounds.

Angel Reese describes experience playing alongside Caitlin Clark in WNBA All-Star Game

Angel Reese said Saturday night’s game was the first of many times she and Caitlin Clark will join forces, whether it’s the All-Star Game or Olympics.

[autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] and [autotag]Caitlin Clark[/autotag] boast one of the top rivalries in women’s basketball.

It dates back to their college careers when they played a pair of high-profile NCAA tournament matchups against each other — both in the Final Four and one for a national title — and now, it continues at the professional level.

But on Saturday night, the duo were teammates for the first time as they helped lead Team WNBA to an upset win over Team USA in the WNBA All-Star Game. Reese finished with a double-double, and while Clark scored just four points, she had 10 assists as she helped facilitate Reese’s 12-point outing.

During the game, Reese described the experience of playing with Clark to the broadcast team.

“It’s so cool, I know when she gets the ball I’m running looking for the ball because I know she’s gonna throw it,” Reese said. “So, she’s been great to play with. I mean, the future — we’re going to be playing with each other a lot. Hopefully, in 4 years we’ll be Olympians together.”

Reese and Clark are both frontrunners for WNBA Rookie of the Year, and this likely won’t be the last time the two play together as they could be perennial All-Stars and, as Reese noted, will likely be favorites to make the 2028 Olympic team.

Best photos of former LSU star Angel Reese at the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game

Angel Reese recorded a double-double coming off the bench in an impressive All-Star Game showing.

LSU already saw one rookie star make an appearance in an All-Star Game earlier this month as [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] started the MLB All-Star Game for the National League, and on Saturday night, it was Angel Reese’s turn.

The Chicago Sky rookie has taken the WNBA by storm, setting a league record for consecutive double-doubles while earning All-Star honors in her first season.

She came off the bench for Team WNBA in a 117-109 upset win over Team USA, but she certainly made an impact in her 18 minutes. She finished with a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double as she continues to make her case for Rookie of the Year.

Here are the best photos from Reese at All-Star Weekend.

Angel Reese records a double-double in WNBA All-Star Game

Angel Reese was a standout coming off the bench for victorious Team WNBA.

Team WNBA upset Team USA 117-109 in the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday night, and though she was coming off the bench for the victorious squad, [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] made her presence known.

She played 18 minutes in the game, recording a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. She did it on decently efficient shooting, as well, as she was 5 of 10 from the field.

That’s certainly what Reese has been known for, both at LSU and since joining the Chicago Sky. She’s on pace to set the rookie record and has already set a league record for consecutive double-doubles.

Reese was joined by fellow rookie star Caitlin Clark, who started the game but only scored four points despite playing 26 minutes. Clark shot just 2 of 9 in the game.

Both are leading candidates to win Rookie of the Year, but it was Reese who made the bigger impact in this game.

Former LSU star Angel Reese’s WNBA record double-double streak ends at 15 games

Angel Reese finished with eight points and 16 rebounds as her record double-double streak came to an end.

Angel Reese’s WNBA record consecutive double-double streak — which sat at 15 games entering Saturday’s contest against the New York Liberty — came to an end as the Chicago Sky lost 81-67.

Reese held up the rebounding end of the bargain, finishing with 16 as she tied her third-highest total of the season. But, despite having several opportunities in the final possessions, she finished with just eight points in the game as she faced stiff defense from a Liberty team intent on ending the streak.

The previous record for consecutive double-doubles was 12, set by Candace Parker. Prior to breaking that record, Reese had already set the record for consecutive double-doubles in a single season.

The rookie WNBA double-double record is also still in reach for Reese.

Reese and the Sky will look to bounce back when they face the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday as the former continues in her quest to become the league’s Rookie of the Year.

Dawn Staley thinks Angel Reese currently deserves Rookie of the Year over Caitlin Clark

Dawn Staley thinks Angel Reese is currently leading the WNBA Rookie of the Year race.

South Carolina coach [autotag]Dawn Staley[/autotag] has quite a bit of familiarity with both [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] and [autotag]Caitlin Clark[/autotag].

Her Gamecocks teams faced the former three times, including the SEC Championship Game this past season, and they faced the latter in back-to-back Final Fours including a national title game victory this past season.

Staley is uniquely qualified to discuss the growing rivalry between the two players, who are the clear favorites at this point to win Rookie of the Year. While Clark is seen as the leader in the clubhouse, Reese is closing the gap with her still-active WNBA record double-double streak.

Speaking with TMZ, Staley said she would give the Rookie of the Year nod to Reese at the moment, though she acknowledged there’s a lot of basketball yet to be played and Clark won’t go down without a fight.

“They both are having great years. Don’t get me wrong,” Staley said. “If I had to pick a Rookie of the Year at this time, today, it’s Angel. Not a doubt. I mean, what she’s been able to do with the double-doubles. But listen, the season is halfway through. And Caitlin is coming. Oh, oh, Caitlin is coming. If I had to pick today it’s Angel. I’ll say this, whatever team makes the playoff, that’s our Rookie of the Year.”

The race will likely remain heated until the end of the season, but the more records Reese continues to set, the better her chances will be — especially if she can help lead the Chicago Sky to the playoffs.

Angel Reese wants to play with Caitlin Clark on 2028 Olympic team

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark will be teammates for the first time in the WNBA All-Star Game.

After several high-profile matchups as opponents, both at the college and WNBA level, [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] and [autotag]Caitlin Clark[/autotag] are finally joining forces.

Both were named WNBA All-Stars amid fantastic rookie campaigns, and the top two contenders for the league’s Rookie of the Year award will be teammates in the All-Star Game. Speaking on ESPN’s NBA Today, Reese said she’s looking forward to playing alongside Clark.

She added that she expects the pair will continue to be All-Stars and hopes that they will be teammates on the 2028 Olympic roster after neither was selected for the 2024 Paris Games.

“It’s gonna be really cool. I mean, I know so many fans are gonna come out to watch both of us,” Reese said. “But I know a lot of people are just gonna be able to come to Phoenix. I’m sure it’s already sold out. So being able to be in that environment, we’re gonna be playing together for a while, so this is not going to be the (last) time.

“I know we’ll be All-Stars again. Hopefully, (in) 2028, we will be Olympians together, too. So, being able to enjoy this, I’m going to Paris too to go watch the Olympics, so I’m excited for that too.”

As WNBA All-Stars, Reese and Clark will get a look at the quality of Team USA as the All-Stars face the Olympic contingent on July 20 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix.
