D-backs fans in the stands were so confused when Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s HR ball seemingly disappeared

The game wasn’t close, but the search for that baseball was RIVETING.

The Arizona Diamondbacks had themselves a rough Halloween night in Tuesday’s Game 4 of the World Series, but they did manage to show some life late in the game with six unanswered runs.

And while it would be a stretch to call that late rally a serious comeback attempt, it did provide us with one of the weirder moments in the stands.

Batting with two outs in the eighth inning, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a three-run home run into the left-field stands to bring the Snakes within six runs.

Again, the home run was pretty inconsequential and only made the game look closer than it really was. But I just can’t stop laughing at the scene in the stands. For 20 seconds, nobody could find the baseball. At one point, it appeared that one fan was falsely accused of catching the baseball, and he had to be like, “No, this is a different ball.” And then the search just continued.

@mlbonfox How the heck did he end up with it 😂 #mlb #baseball #worldseries #texasrangers #arizonadiamondbacks ♬ original sound – MLBonFOX

As fans in the first row continued looking behind seats for the baseball, the guy in the red D-backs jersey somehow ended up with the ball. How he got it — I have no idea. But he seemed to have the ball right away and nobody else in the area noticed.

That was honestly the most compelling part of the game. Let’s hope those fans stopped looking for the ball eventually.

6 photos of Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s spiky purple hair

Lourdes Gurriel Jr’s purple hair is just awesome.

It was back in Toronto that Lourdes Gurriel Jr. showed off some blue hair when he was a Blue Jay.

But then? He got dealt to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the last offseason. And with his new team came some new hair coloring.

He’s shown off a spiky purple ‘do that is just awesome, turning heads everywhere and bringing a smile to everyone’s faces.

As we sit down to watch him play for a title with the Diamondbacks as they face the Texas Rangers in the 2023 World Series, let’s take a closer look at that signature purple hair you’ll be seeing a lot of.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. adorably played rock paper scissors across dugouts at the All-Star Game

There’s never a bad time to play rock paper scissors!

There’s never a bad time to play rock paper scissors. In fact, mid-inning at the 2023 MLB All-Star Game might be the best time to engage in some fun tomfoolery!

During Tuesday’s MLB All-Star festivities, former teammates Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. played rock paper scissors across dugouts in the early innings of the contest. Guerrero Jr. and Gurriel Jr. were previously teammates with the Toronto Blue Jays. While Guerrero Jr. is still playing for the Blue Jays — and just won the Home Run Derby! — Gurriel Jr. now plays for the Arizona Diamondbacks after a trade in late 2022.

MORE ALL-STAR GAME: The NL All-Stars wore navy jerseys with black pants and MLB fans were appalled at the fashion choice.

Here’s the moment the cameras caught the pair adorably playing rock paper scissors.

Orioles, Blue Jays game goes off the rails thanks to bodychecks, Brandon Hyde’s NSFW tirade

Just an absolute gong show of a game.

I’m pretty sure there was a baseball game played between the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night. Maybe. Between all the shenanigans and tomfoolery, that is.

In one of the strangest, most off-the-rails baseball games I’ve ever seen, Friday night’s game between the Orioles and Blue Jays featured an incredibly high level of nonsense and buffoonery more befitting a circus than a ballpark. From incredibly illegal bodychecks to thrown water bottles and a very NSFW rant from Brandon Hyde for reasons unknown, this game had nearly everything.

Let’s stop wasting time and get into it, shall we?

Yankees fans booed Lourdes Gurriel Jr. after thinking he played for the 2017 Astros

They booed the wrong Gurriel.

It feels like an eternity ago, but in the lead-up to the 2020 MLB season, the Houston Astros were looking at a brutal experience from opposing fans.

The team was at the center of a multi-season cheating scandal that included the 2017 World Series champions. And up until the coronavirus pandemic sent MLB games behind closed doors, fans had been waiting for an opportunity to heckle anyone associated with that 2017 team.

Well, now that some fans are allowed back into stadiums for spring training, we should expect the cheating scandal to follow wherever the Astros go this season.

But, uh, let’s leave the Blue Jays’ Lourdes Gurriel Jr. out of this.

The Blue Jays opened their Grapefruit League schedule on Sunday against the Yankees, and when Gurriel Jr. stepped to the plate, he was booed, heckled and called a “cheater” by some fans in Tampa.

The problem: Gurriel Jr. never played for the Houston Astros.

These fans were confusing Lourdes with his brother, Yuli, who is still with Houston and was part of that 2017 team.

Despite the heckling, Lourdes went 1 for 3 with an RBI in the spring training opener.

I guess it’s spring training for the fans too.
