Pete Carroll not blaming delayed game for Seahawks’ loss to Rams

Pete Carroll is taking the high road and not blaming the delayed Week-15 game for the Seattle Seahawks loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Coach Pete Carroll is taking the high road. After losing the Week-15 contest to the Los Angeles Rams, Carroll isn’t blaming the delayed game for the Seattle Seahawks’ defeat.

“I don’t think that had anything to do with anything,” Carroll said after the loss. “It just made it seem like forever to get to this game. It seemed like it was two weeks ago when we played and all that. But, the event here, the stadium was good. You know, our guys were lit up and fired up about this opportunity.”

Because of a coronavirus outbreak amongst the Rams – that at one point had 29 of LA’s players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list – the matchup against the Seahawks in Los Angeles was pushed back from Sunday afternoon to Tuesday night.

“Well, I don’t think it put us in a disadvantage,” Carroll continued. “I think the delay helped them. They were able to get some guys back that wouldn’t have played on Sunday, I think. But other than that, it didn’t hamper us, other than not having Tyler (Lockett). Tyler’s one of the best players we’ve ever seen and he wasn’t there tonight.”

Lockett was unable to clear the protocol with a negative test, and therefore, was unable to join the team in LA. Regardless, at 5-9 on the year, Seattle is guaranteed its first losing season since 2011.

The Seahawks are already looking ahead to Sunday, Dec. 26 when they are set to kick off against the Bears at Lumen Field at 1:05 p.m. PT.

With losing record for season, Seahawks now just ‘playing for each other’

With a losing record for the season now guaranteed, the Seattle Seahawks are now just “playing for each other” to finish out the year.

After an incredibly tumultuous number of days that included starters being placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, the Seattle Seahawks finally played in and lost the Week-15 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, which had been delayed until Tuesday night due to a coronavirus outbreak.

After suffering the defeat, Seattle fell to a record of 5-9 on the year, ensured to be the first losing season for the Seahawks since 2011. With a playoff berth nearly next to impossible, the team needs to find some motivation to keep fighting.

“We’re playing for each other,” coach Pete Carroll said after the loss. “We’re playing for the cause of loving this game, and loving the guys that are in the locker room with us and playing for one another. The relationships that you build during the course of a season like this are unforgettable, and they connect you so that you keep babbling, because that’s what it is, that’s what it feels like. You saw how hard we played tonight.

“There was nothing but guys fighting for one another, and so that’s what we’ll do, wherever we’re playing whoever we’re playing whenever it happens.”

With the delayed game, the Seahawks now have a quick turnaround before hosting the Bears at Lumen Field Week 16. For Carroll and his players, it’s all about pride at this point.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s Tuesday night or Sunday or whatever, we’re going to go ahead and go,” Carroll continued. “We’ll overcome the issues and get back to playing, and focus on the things that make us have a chance by practicing well and studying hard and caring and loving this game. And we’re going to do everything we can to get every single drop out of it as we go down the stretch here.”

Seattle and Chicago are set to kick off on Sunday, Dec. 26 at 1:05 p.m PT.

With playoff hopes lost, Seahawks will now ‘play for the pride of it’

The Seattle Seahawks playoff hopes are all but over in 2021, but the team will continue to battle and “play for the pride of it.”

The Seattle Seahawks lost another heartbreaker in Week 12, falling 17-15 to the Washington Football Team on the road. With a record of 3-8 on the year, hopes for a playoff appearance are all but lost.

Coach Pete Carroll, ever the optimist, was asked about potentially losing the locker room as players struggle to deal with defeat.

“That’s not going to happen, I don’t think,” Carroll said after the game. “I just don’t feel like that. I know these guys too well. I know their heart. They know my heart. We’ve been battling for a long time together, and we’ve got the leadership. There’s just no room for that to happen.

But despite being dead-last in the NFC West, the season must go on, there are many more games to be played. So what could possibly motivate the team going forward?

“We’re going to play for the pride of it,” Carroll stated emphatically. “We’re going to play for the people that we are and we’re going to represent. I don’t know how else to look at it but that way.”
