Los Angeles Clippers at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Los Angeles Clippers at Minnesota Timberwolves odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The play-in games for the Western Conference begin Tuesday. The eighth-place Los Angeles Clippers (42-40) take on the seventh-place Minnesota Timberwolves (46-36) to determine who will be the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference playoffs. Tip-off is 9:30 p.m. ET at Target Center in Minneapolis. Below, we look at the Clippers vs. Timberwolves odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Clippers finished the season with six wins in their last seven games including ending on a five-game win streak. Forwards Paul George and Norman Powell both returned from injuries. They were 17-24 on the road this season.

The Timberwolves went 15-8 after the All-Star break but ended the regular season losing two of three games after they locked up seventh place in the conference.

The Clippers beat the Timberwolves three times in November, including twice in Minnesota. The Timberwolves won the fourth regular-season matchup in L.A. in January.

Clippers at Timberwolves odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Clippers 123, Timberwolves 119

Money line

This is an interesting matchup. The Clippers were pretty bad on the road this season, going 17-24, but they beat the Timberwolves on the road both times they played at Target Center.

The Wolves played well at home in the regular season, going 25-16, and winning eight of their last 11 contests there.

However, the Clippers are playoff-tested and have both George and Powell back in the lineup after injuries kept them out for an extended time; the Timberwolves have not made the postseason since 2018.

I’m going with the hot hand in this game. Take the CLIPPERS (+130).

Against the spread

The Clippers covered the spread in five of their final seven games of the season en route to an even 41-41 ATS overall record. They were 21-20 ATS on the road.

The Timberwolves went 42-38-2 ATS overall and 22-18-1 ATS at home, but they have covered the spread only twice in their final 10 regular-season games.

Expecting the Clippers to be more prepared for the intensity of a play-in game, take the CLIPPERS +3.5 (-112).

Over/Under

The Clippers allowed only 102.8 points per game in their last five outings; the last five games for Minnesota finished with over 240 points.

The four games between the two teams finished with totals of 241, 188, 231 and 226 points.

Based on Minnesota’s last five games and the Clippers’ 127.8 points scored per game across their last seven, take OVER 230.5 (-108).

Los Angeles Clippers at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Los Angeles Clippers at Minnesota Timberwolves odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Clippers (3-4) will take on the Minnesota Timberwolves (3-4) at the Target Center. Tip is scheduled Friday evening for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Clippers at Timberwolves odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Clippers and Wolves played Wednesday with the Clippers pulling away behind a 45-point third quarter.

They just couldn’t miss. SF Paul George and PG Reggie Jackson combined for over 60 points. It was a terrific showing from a team that’s struggled out the gate.

With no PG D’Angelo Russell, the Wolves will again be handicapped. However, they do have C Karl-Anthony Towns. He’s one of the best big men in the NBA, averaging 23.9 points and 9.4 rebounds.

The Wolves are just 2-5 against the spread this season, marginally worse than the Clips 3-4 ATS record.

Clippers at Timberwolves odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 108, Clippers 106

Money line

BET on the TIMBERWOLVES +115 as the second night of back-to-back games against the same opponents typically isn’t easy to repeat the results of.

The Clippers won round 1.

Ask the Knicks, who gave the Magic their first win of the season, it’s not easy to win the second game against a team in the NBA. This should a similar situation, especially with the Wolves having competence.

Second-year F Anthony Edwards has been lighting up the scoreboard, averaging almost 24 points per game. He had 28 in the first meeting. He should look to have another strong showing on Friday.

The Clippers had scored under 100 in their three games prior to taking on Minnesota. While the Wolves defense is far from elite, the Clippers should regress to their mean, which isn’t shooting over 60 percent from the field.

Also, KAT had his second-worst scoring performance of the season, shooting his second-fewest free throws per game. He should bounce back as his mean is better than his Wednesday night performance.

Against the spread

PASS on the spread. I’d rather look back up to the money line in this once, especially considering we’re being given just two points of insurance.

If the Clippers pull away late like they did the two teams’ first outing, they’d cover that spread. If you feel better on the Clippers, the -2.5 is the way to go, but I’d rather put a small unit on the Wolves line.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 215.5 (-107) as the better side. Neither team has shown much consistency this season.

Their totals have been all over the place, easily covering Wednesday’s 212.5 line. We’re given three more points after that offensive onslaught. Prior to that, the Wolves were 0-6 on the total and the Clips were 1-5.

Both teams rank in the bottom ten in offensive rating. Give me the Under as the Clippers hitting over 60 percent Wednesday likely helped boost this number.

Los Angeles Clippers at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Los Angeles Clippers at Minnesota Timberwolves odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (3-3) host the Los Angeles Clippers (2-4) Wednesday at the Target Center for an 8 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we look at the Clippers vs. Timberwolves odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions, and bets.

Minnesota has lost three of its last four games including back-to-back losses to the Orlando Magic as an 8.5-point home favorite (115-97 Monday) and the Denver Nuggets as a 1.5-point road favorite (93-91 Oct. 30). The T-Wolves’ lone victory came on the road against the Milwaukee Bucks as 6-point underdogs.

L.A. beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 99-94 Monday but the Clippers failed to cover as massive 12.5-point home favorites. The Clippers are shooting the fourth-lowest effective field goal percentage (eFG%) in the NBA and have the worst rebounding percentage.

The Clippers are 5-1 overall and 4-2 against the spread (ATS) against the T-Wolves since the beginning of the 2019 season, which includes L.A. winning all three meetings last season (2-1 ATS).

Clippers at Timberwolves odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Clippers 108, Timberwolves 103

Money line

GIMME the CLIPPERS (-140) for 1 unit because there’s been “sharp line movement” towards L.A., Paul George is by far the best player on the floor and the Clippers are due for some positive regression.

The Clippers-Timberwolves opened as a consensus pick ’em game but the market has steamed L.A. up to a slight favorite, according to Pregame.com.

PG is playing an MVP-caliber level thus far by averaging the second-most points per game (28.3 PPG), the most steals per game (3.3 SPG) and is sixth in PER (26.7).

L.A. has a lot better ball security and Minnesota only ranks 27th in rebounding rate so it’s not like the T-Wolves will bully the Clippers on the glass.

Lastly, according to ShotQuality.com, the Clippers have the best defensive adjusted shot quality and a 5-1 record based on their shot-quality differential.

Against the spread

PASS since L.A.’s money line is only 30 cents on the dollar more expensive than the Clippers -2.5 (-110). If L.A.’s money line goes north of -140 then I’d consider laying points with the Clippers.

Over/Under

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Under 212.5 (-107) since we are getting to the party way late on this total. The Clippers-Timberwolves opened with a 216.5-point total but has been steamed down by heavy pro-Under action.

Both teams like to play in transition, create looks by cutting, run the offense through isolation plays and attempt catch-and-shoot 3-pointers (according to ShotQuality.com).

However, each team’s defense does a good job defending other offenses trying to execute on those shot types. Not only does L.A.’s defense have the best-adjusted shot quality but Minnesota’s defense ranks fifth.
