Los Angeles Chargers at Cleveland Browns odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Los Angeles Chargers at Cleveland Browns Week 5 odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Chargers (2-2) and the Cleveland Browns (2-2) meet Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Chargers vs. Browns odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Chargers halted a 2-game losing streak with a 34-24 win on the road against the Houston Texans last weekend, covering as 5.5-point favorites as the Over connected. L.A. has covered in 3 of its 4 games, and the Over is 2-0 in the previous 2 outings.

The Browns blew a lead in Atlanta last week and lost to the Falcons 23-20. The good news is that Cleveland hasn’t lost consecutive games this season, but the bad news is that it hasn’t won or covered in 2 in a row, either.

Chargers at Browns picks and predictions

Prediction

Chargers 26, Browns 18

Moneyline

The CHARGERS (-125) aren’t really priced out of line if you just want to play them straight up and forget about fiddling with the points. However, the only chance you lose laying the points is if the Browns (+110) keep it within 1 or 2 points.

Against the spread

CHARGERS -2.5 (-108) comes with some risk as the underdog is 7-1 ATS in the past 8 meetings, with the Browns +2.5 (-112) going 6-2 ATS in the past 8 in the series. That includes a cover in a 47-42 loss in Los Angeles last season.

While that game is fresh in some bettor’s minds, there are some big differences. First, that game was indoors, this one will be played with temperatures in the upper 50’s with a steady wind blowing 10-20 mph at times. And QB Baker Mayfield, as bad as he is this season in Carolina, was at the helm for the Browns, having a strong game.

Over/Under

UNDER 46.5 (-103) is the way to go here.

Yes, it is a little risky betting Unders in Cleveland games as the Over is 3-1 overall this season. However, expect the Browns to keep the ball on the ground frequently, which runs the clock. The Chargers also need to establish the run, as they rank dead-last in rushing yards per game. Cleveland is actually better against the pass than the run, and with the wind gusting to 20 mph, L.A. might be more inclined to air it out less. Being without WR Keenan Allen also supports that theory.
