Raiders TE Darren Waller memorializes former Ravens teammate Lorenzo Taliaferro with TD celebration

Lorenzo Taliaferro passed away on Tuesday at the age of 28. Former Ravens teammate Darren Waller used his TD celebration to memorialize him.

Former Baltimore Ravens running back Lorenzo Taliaferro passed away from a heart attack Tuesday at 28 years old. Several of Taliaferro’s former teammates took to social media to pay their respects but one took it to a completely different level.

Former Ravens and current-Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller caught a beautiful touchdown in Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers and used his celebration time to memorialize his former teammate. After the catch, Waller put up three and four fingers on his hands, symbolizing Taliaferro’s jersey number in Baltimore.

Taliaferro was a fourth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and Waller was picked in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft, both by the Ravens. The pair played together for two seasons in Baltimore before Taliaferro was among the roster cuts and Waller was suspended for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

According to reports, former Baltimore Ravens running back Lorenzo Taliaferro passed away Wednesday due to a heart attack at 28-years-old

The Baltimore Ravens lost one of their own. The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office announced former Ravens running back Lorenzo Taliaferro passed away Wednesday evening at 28-years-old. According to Bruce Cunningham of Fox Baltimore, the family says it was from a heart attack.

Taliaferro was Baltimore’s fourth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, Taliaferro rushed for 292 yards and four touchdowns on 68 attempts, adding another eight receptions for 114 yards. Unfortunately, injuries derailed a promising career, seeing Taliaferro play just six more games for the Ravens over the following two years before failing to make the 53-man roster in 2017.

Former Baltimore Ravens’ running back Lorenzo Taliaferro has died at 28

A former Baltimore Ravens running back, Lorenzo Taliaferro, died in Williamsburg, Va, on Wednesday at the age of 28.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office posted on the news on Facebook:

Earlier today, December 16, 2020, at approximately 3:07 pm Deputies were dispatched to the 100 Block of Windsor Lane for a call of someone needing medical attention. Medics also arrived and transported the patient to a local hospital where he later passed away. Lorenzo Taliaferro was 28 years old. We cannot release any medical information. Our sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
Taliaferro played with the Ravens from 2014-16.

After two years of junior college, he became a Football Championship Subdivision All-American at Coastal Carolina, then was drafted in 2014 by the Ravens in the fourth round, 138th overall. He played three seasons for the Ravens, his best being 2014 when he ran for 282 yards and four touchdowns and caught eight passes for 114 yards.

Overall with the Ravens, Taliaferro had 339 yards rushing and five touchdowns.

Taliaferro was waived by the Ravens in 2017 and played briefly in 2018 for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.
