Mets pitcher Taijuan Walker allows 3 runs in wild blunder after mistakenly tossing away a fair ball

That is soooo Mets.

Just about two months ago, the Pittsburgh Pirates were on the wrong side of perhaps the most embarrassing baseball blunder we’ve ever seen — allowing a run to score on a first-to-home rundown with two outs (!!!). Like, I still can’t believe that happened.

But baseball is the kind of game that doesn’t care if you’re a first-place team or a last-place team. No player is totally protected from the jaw-dropping blunder.

On Sunday, it happened to be Mets pitcher Taijuan Walker’s turn to embarrass himself. And this time, the Pittsburgh Pirates were the ones to benefit from the huge — and I mean HUGE — mistake.

The Mets are really practicing their World Series celebration during spring training

They really do practice everything.

Spring training is really the only time in the baseball calendar that teams get to work on the actual fundamentals of baseball. You know, the pitcher covering first on ground balls, fielding drills, trick plays … all of that.

But for the New York Mets, they’re apparently using some of their time at Port St. Lucie, Fla., to look way ahead to October.

Though the Mets last won a World Series in 1986, Steve Cohen’s ownership and the addition of Francisco Lindor have added a jolt of optimism to the 2021 Mets. And sure, it’s always good to use spring training as an opportunity to prepare, but, uh, practicing a World Series celebration? That might be a bit much.

Video from spring training practice on Wednesday showed the Mets getting real into their artificial World Series celebration. It had it all: shouting, glove throws, a pile-up at the infield.

But this is still March, and it’s still the Mets.

You know what other team practiced celebrations? Charlie Weis’ Kansas football team. That didn’t exactly work out too well.
