#Chiefs CB L’Jarius Sneed has teamed up with @BBBSKC to help support the next generation of youth in Kansas City.

Kansas City Chiefs CB L’Jarius Sneed has teamed up with Big Brother Big Sisters to get a little more involved in the Kansas City community this season.

In addition to becoming an official spokesperson for Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City, Sneed announced a new campaign called ‘Turn the Corner with L’Jarius Sneed.’ This fundraising effort is asking fans to pledge a donation for every turnover the Chiefs defense creates this season.

All donations will benefit the “L’Jarius Sneed Dreambuilders Fund” at Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City, which helps to remove financial barriers and open doors for children served by the program.

“The children of Kansas City are our future. They’re the next generation of game-changers, trailblazers, and difference makers. But right now, there are still hundreds of them in our community that don’t have a positive adult mentor to help clear the path to their biggest possible future. This season, I’m committed to doing something about it. I’m L’Jarius Sneed, cornerback for the Kansas City Chiefs. I’m teaming up with Big Brothers Big Sisters to launch a campaign where you can help empower, ignite and defend the potential of kids in Kansas City. Join me for ‘Turn the Corner with L’Jarius Sneed.’ by pledging to donate for every turnover the Chiefs create this season or by signing up to become a Big.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City serves over 1,200 children in the Greater Kansas City community. They currently have over 200 children on a waitlist looking for their Big. ‘Turn the Corner with L’Jarius Sneed’ has already reached the halfway point for the current campaign goal. Fans who pledge a certain amount will be rewarded with signed gear from Sneed.

Chiefs CB L’Jarius Sneed confident in expanded role as a starter

#Chiefs CB L’Jarius Sneed says he still has learning to do, but he’s confident with an expanded role heading in the 2021 NFL season. | from @TheJohnDillon

Chiefs’ cornerback L’Jarius Sneed burst onto the scene last season, becoming a star for the defense as a rookie. Now listed as a starter on the depth chart, he finds himself in a drastically increased role compared to camp last season.

Coaches have commented on Sneed’s ability to play at different positions in the past. His usage as a pass rusher last year was evidence of his upside as a multi-tool player. The team’s depth chart has Sneed listed as the starting right cornerback, which has been true during training camp. The second-year player also has shifted into the slot when the team goes to the nickel sub-package.

It differs from Sneed’s usage last year, where he began the season playing on the outside and finished the year only playing in the slot.  How his new role will actually manifest itself on-field is unclear but the potential is intriguing.
For all the hype, though, Sneed seemed as cool-headed as you could expect for a second-year player at his press conference after practice on Monday.

Asked about his transition into the new season, Sneed seemed especially confident.

“I feel great,” Sneed told reporters, “I learned a lot (last season), what to do and what not to do now. I’ve been working all offseason, so it’s going to be a great year for me.”

Another quality season from Sneed could be what puts Kansas City’s overhauled defense over the top, and expectations are high from coaches and fans alike. Between his personal contributions and the greater success of his team on the cusp of another championship, Sneed seems unperturbed by the mounting anticipation of the upcoming season.

“There’s a lot of pressure on me,” he told the media, “but (I) tend not to pay attention to it. (I) just do what I do and play football.”

Overall, he says the team’s defense is starting to take form, too.

“We’re coming along, we’re coming together,” he said. “We’re building every day, and I think we get better day by day.”

Saturday’s game will be the first glimpse of what would seem to be a promising defense. As players like Sneed, Mike Hughes, and rookie Devon Key look to increase their role in the unit as a whole. The preseason should be an opportune time for players like Sneed to put the work he’s done this offseason to the test.

“I’m still learning, still growing you know,” Sneed said. “I’ve still got a lot of learning to do. And I think I’m a steady learner.”

2020 NFL Draft: 4 cornerbacks the Jets could target in later rounds

Jets Wire takes a look at four cornerbacks the Jets could target in the later rounds of the 2020 NFL draft.

There is no question that the Jets need to add a cornerback or two in the upcoming 2020 NFL draft.

Joe Douglas did a nice job addressing the position in free agency by bringing back Brian Poole and inking Pierre Desir to a one-year deal. However, even with Poole back in the fold and Desir’s arrival, New York still needs additional cornerback depth. Past Poole and Desir, the Jets’ cornerback room is littered with inexperienced and unproven players.

New York is unlikely to address cornerback early in the draft, making the later rounds the ideal time for Douglas to sure up the position. Who are some potential late-round targets the Jets could have their eyes on? Let’s take a look.

Reggie Robinson, Tulsa

Considering the Jets’ defensive scheme, Robinson’s skill set makes him an ideal late-round cornerback target.

At 6-foot-1, Robinson has the speed, length and athleticism to play in Gregg Williams’ defense. He ran a 4.4 40-yard dash at the NFL draft combine and has a knack for being disruptive in the secondary, as he recorded four interceptions and four pass breakups in his senior year.

Robinson’s not a finished product, but he has the potential to develop into a starting outside cornerback. Considering that is exactly what the Jets need, they would be foolish to pass on him if he is still on the board in the later rounds.
