The Premier League returns after a weekend break due to the FA Cup third round occupying the top flight. Liverpool’s path to its first Premier League title is clear. The intrigue surrounding its unbelievably impressive season remains whether or not the team can keep its unbeaten run through to the end. A tricky away trip to Tottenham could be one of its most difficult obstacles left remaining.

Tottenham’s struggles and inconsistencies, no matter the manager in charge, have been well documented. While the team’s record away has been brutal for a whole calendar year, its home form has been what you’d expect from a club with such quality. Despite Tottenham’s inability to string results together, the team has the talent to beat any club on any day. If Tottenham shows up in good form, it can certainly be a threat to Liverpool’s bid for history.

The Spurs will be no bystanders in this matchup. They are six points behind Chelsea for the fourth spot in the table and the final Champions League spot. The honeymoon period with Jose Mourinho was a quick one as the team has only won once in its last five competitions, including a loss against Southampton and a draw with Norwich City.

For Liverpool, life couldn’t be much better. Not only is it on pace to become only the second club to not be defeated in a Premier League season, but the team is even making progress in other competitions. Liverpool’s bid for a Champions League repeat is on track, while it just knocked out bitter rival Everton in the third round of the FA Cup using a predominantly reserve-laden team. The sky’s the limit for this side as history draws closer and closer.

  • TV: NBCSN
  • Live Stream: fuboTV (watch for free)

For as prestigious a club as Liverpool is, it’s hard to believe it hasn’t been able to capture the Premier League since its formation in 1992. Winning the Champions League last season sent Merseyside into euphoria, but it could be argued that taking home England’s top crown could be an even bigger goal for Liverpool fans. Their fellow supporters of top clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all had those domestic bragging rights over them for years. The Premier League title is still that one elusive piece of silverware left for Liverpool to gain. If the team can do that, there will no doubt be about who the top club in England is.

The Wolves have been a revelation in the Premier League for the past season and a half. Their incredibly exciting style of play has made them a difficult opponent for any club and has put them in the conversation for spots in Europe. After qualifying for the Europa League last season, they’re within reach of the top four this season. A huge victory over Liverpool is just what they need to get their momentum headed in the right direction as the calendar turns over. You can bet that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will be doing whatever it can to disrupt Liverpool’s title chase and become among the English elite.

Leicester City vs. Liverpool

The Reds have won in each of their last two visits to King Power Stadium. Leicester’s last win over Klopp’s men occurred in the Carabao Cup in September 2017, the last of three consecutive home victories the Foxes managed against Liverpool across an 18-month spell.

Both teams have drastically changed since then, and former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will hope any inside knowledge from his time at Anfield can help pull off a result for Thursday’s hosts.

The newly crowned ‘World Champions’ edged Flamengo in Doha, Qatar, to lift the Club World Cup for the first time on Saturday when Roberto Firmino again provided a timely winner late.

Leicester suffered a dip in form at just the wrong moment as it prepared for the visit of Liverpool, losing 3-1 at Manchester City in the last outing to put second place at risk. The Foxes remain one point ahead of the Citizens approaching Week 19, but a loss at home to Liverpool could see them fall.

Klopp will look forward to his Premier League comeback, where fans can expect to see a more familiar Liverpool lineup return, though Fabinho and Joel Matip are among those injured for the team’s visit to the East Midlands.

Joe Gomez looks likely to partner Virgil van Dijk in central defense—as he did against Flamengo—with Dejan Lovren also in a race to be fit. Georginio Wijnaldum returned to the Reds bench for the Club World Cup final, but was an unused substitute. He may come back into the XI at Leicester.

Leicester winger Harvey Barnes could miss out after he was taken off with a knock in the defeat to Pep Guardiola’s City, while midfielder Matty James is recovering from an Achilles injury.
