Photos: Lior Berman through the years

Lior Berman was a key contributor off the bench in five seasons as an Auburn Tiger.

[autotag]Lior Berman[/autotag] joined Auburn’s roster ahead of the 2019-20 season as a walk-on from the Birmingham suburb of Mountain Brook. He would go on to become a solid bench option for Auburn over the next five seasons.

Berman appeared in 81 games over his five-year career, averaging 7.1 minutes per outing. He connected on 41% of his field-goal attempts and 38% from three-point territory. He averaged 1.8 points, 0.9 rebounds, and 0.2 assists over his Auburn career.

Berman’s senior season was cut short when he sustained a torn ACL injury in Auburn’s win over Mississippi State on March 2 in Neville Arena. Following the injury, head coach [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] shared his gratitude for Berman’s contributions throughout his career.

“Our heart truly breaks for Lior,” Pearl said. “He has made a huge impact in this program resulting in historical success over the last five years. At a time when he had worked his way into a major roll on this year’s team, the Lord had a different plan. I promise you, Lior’s faith and conviction will allow him to pursue his dream of playing professionally next year in Israel. Our team may have won a game yesterday, but we suffered a huge loss.”

Here is a look back at several of Berman’s moments as an Auburn Tiger.

The best images from Auburn’s blowout win over Missouri

The Auburn Tigers took care of business on the road Tuesday night, winning yet another game by double digits, this time over the Missouri Tigers.

Bruce Pearl’s team was favored by 11 heading into the game so the result is no surprise. Still, some Tigers showed great things in the win.

Forward Jaylin Williams looked like his old self after two sub-par games returning from injury, while guards [autotag]Chad Baker-Mazara[/autotag] and [autotag]Aden Holloway[/autotag] stepped up in the absence of [autotag]Lior Berman[/autotag].

The Tigers’ 101 points were the most they’ve scored since February 14 against South Carolina. We’ll see if they can carry that offensive output into the remainder of March.

Here are some of the best photos from Auburn’s dominant win.

Recap: Auburn passes final road test, takes down Missouri

The Auburn Tigers are officially on pace for a two-day bye in the SEC Tournament.

Bruce Pearl’s squad took care of business on the road at Missouri on Tuesday night by handing Mizzou its 17th-straight SEC loss.

The home team gave Auburn all it could handle in the first half thanks to some solid play by stars Sean East II and Nick Honor, but a quick start to the second half from [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] and the away Tigers gave Auburn some much-needed breathing room.

Broome ended up second among Auburn scorers with 15 points in the win, while front-court mate Jaylin Williams provided his best output since returning from injury a week ago by scoring a team-high 17 points on an efficient 6/8 from the field.

Guard [autotag]Chad Baker-Mazara[/autotag] was also a star once again. Interestingly, the junior played a team-high 28 minutes in the win. It looks like head coach Bruce Pearl is trusting his most electric stat-stuffing guard to soak up the minutes lost with [autotag]Lior Berman[/autotag] out for the season.

Auburn’s win was heavily expected, but it is still worth commending nonetheless. The Tigers now control their own destiny in the hunt for a top 4 seed in the SEC Tournament when they finish the season at Neville Arena on Saturday against Georgia.

As for Missouri, the Tigers nightmare regular season will come to a close in Baton Rouge on Saturday. They’ll have to run the table in Nashville against higher seeds if they want to make it back to the NCAA Tournament.

Auburn’s Lior Berman out for the season with injury

Auburn basketball will be without guard Lior Berman for the rest of the season after he suffered a season-ending injury on Saturday.

Auburn basketball’s depth has been a strong suit and a large reason for its success in 2024. However, that depth just got a little bit shorter.

Graduate senior guard [autotag]Lior Berman[/autotag] suffered a season-ending ACL injury in his left knee on Saturday in the Tigers’ win over Mississippi State. He received an MRI on Sunday morning and will get an orthopedic consultation in the near future.

Head coach [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] shared his sentiment for what Berman has meant to the team, knowing his future is bright.

Berman returned to the Auburn squad for his fifth year after earning a scholarship in the 2022-23 season. He played in 86 games over the course of his career and was part of the team that earned a No. 1 national ranking in the 2021-22 year.

He made sure to send his thanks to the Auburn faithful for all they have done for him.

“I want to give thanks to my coaches, staff, administration, teammates and the Auburn Family,” Berman said. “I have loved every second here and wouldn’t trade it for anything. Let’s finish this season with a bang. War Eagle!”

Berman graduated in May 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in industrial design.

Everything Bruce Pearl, Auburn’s players said after dominating Ole Miss

Bruce Pearl was impressed after Auburn’s 23-point win over Ole Miss. Here is everything he had to say about the game.

The Auburn Tigers are the hottest team in the SEC and maybe the entire country. They picked up their 11th straight win Saturday night over Ole Miss 82-59 in Neville Arena and are now in sole lead of the SEC with a perfect 5-0 record.

The Tigers took control of the game in the first half and enjoyed a 19-point lead at the break. Unlike past games, they did not take their foot off the gas and only built on the lead after the break, winning by 23 points.

Auburn’s depth was once again key as all 11 rotation players scored and each played 10 or more minutes. The bench, led by [autotag]Dylan Cardwell[/autotag] and [autotag]Lior Berman[/autotag], had a particularly great night, scoring 40 points and playing great defense.

The win finally impressed [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag], who along with Cardwell, and Berman spoke with the media after the game. Here is a look at everything they had to say.

A look at Auburn Basketball’s 2023-24 roster

Get to know the 2023-24 Auburn Tigers before they begin the season!

The Auburn Tigers are set to officially begin the 2023-24 season on Tuesday, Nov. 7 against the No. 17 Baylor Bears at Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

This season’s team features a healthy mix of veteran leadership, exciting transfers, and a five-star freshman. As head coach [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] prepares to begin his 10th season as the Tigers’ leading man, he says that he is excited about the parity that his roster brings to the table.

“I’ve not been asked by one player,” Pearl said during his time on the podium at SEC Media Days regarding the set starting lineup. “We’ve got so much parity, so much competition in each position, I’m not sure they want to know, which I think is a good thing.”

This year’s veterans are [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag], [autotag]KD Johnson[/autotag], and [autotag]Chris Moore[/autotag], who have collectively logged a total of 255 games in an Auburn uniform.

The main attraction as far as returners go is center [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag]. Broome joined the Tigers roster last season after spending the first two seasons of his college career at Morehead State. He was great as advertised, as he scored 14.2 points and pulled down 8.4 rebounds per game. He also recorded 10 double-doubles last season and had a stretch of recording a double-double in four straight games to open SEC play. He is expected to replicate those stats this season, as he was named preseason All-SEC.

A plethora of bench options return to the roster this season as well. Broome will be complemented by [autotag]Dylan Cardwell[/autotag] at the five spot while [autotag]Lior Berman[/autotag] and [autotag]Tre Donaldson[/autotag] will provide relief to the Tigers’ backcourt.

This season’s roster features plenty of recognizable names, but there are also a few names to familiarize yourself with. Auburn landed two big names from the transfer portal, as well as a few junior college players to beef up its rotation.

Auburn added guard [autotag]Denver Jones[/autotag], who was a first-team All-CUSA selection after scoring 20 points per game last season at FIU. [autotag]Chaney Johnson[/autotag], a 1,000-point scorer, also joins the roster after spending three seasons at Alabama-Huntsville. He dropped 15.3 points per game last season, en route to earning the Gulf South Conference Player of the Year award. JUCO transfers [autotag]Addarin Scott[/autotag] and [autotag]Chad Baker-Mazara[/autotag] are also expected to contribute heavily this season.

The most notable addition to the program, however, has to be freshman [autotag]Aden Holloway[/autotag]. Holloway was the No. 16 overall prospect of the 2023 class and was the No. 3 point guard of the cycle. The Athletic recently listed him as one of the top freshmen to watch this season and he is expected to run the point for the Tigers, taking over for [autotag]Wendell Green Jr[/autotag].

Before the season starts, get to know the 2023-24 Auburn Tigers by checking out the full roster, plus their accomplishments as Auburn players, below.

Tyrin Lawrence reveals plans for 2023-24 season

After visiting Auburn in April, what is the next move for the Vanderbilt playmaker?

For a few days in late April, the most notable transfer portal target that Auburn had its sights on was Vanderbilt guard [autotag]Tyrin Lawrence[/autotag].

Lawrence had just come off an amazing season where he scored 13.1 points and averaged 4.4 rebounds per contest while making 50% of his shots, and felt that it would benefit him to test the waters of the transfer portal. He paid a visit to Auburn in late April, and Auburn received a prediction to earn his commitment. But, his name seemed to fade away like a vapor after a week of speculation that he would transfer to Auburn. Now that time has passed, Lawrence has officially decided where he wants to spend next season.

Lawrence announced Thursday that he will use his fourth season of eligibility to remain at Vanderbilt. Lawrence shared the news via Twitter, with a caption that reads: “Nashville, I’m back.”

Following his visit, Lawrence told Jason Caldwell of Auburn Undercover that he believed Auburn was a “perfect fit” for him. However, with the addition of McDonald’s All-American [autotag]Aden Holloway[/autotag] and the return of [autotag]Tre Donaldson[/autotag], it would be difficult to give all three players adequate time to run the point.

During the time of his visit, the idea of having Lawrence on the roster would have been a great move from a leadership and experience standpoint. But with the announcement of [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag], [autotag]Dylan Cardwell[/autotag], and [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag] all resending their intent to join the NBA draft pool, those qualities were no longer an area of need.

As it stands, Auburn has an adequate guard room with Holloway and Donaldson at the point, with FIU transfer [autotag]Denver Jones[/autotag], and mainstays [autotag]K.D. Johnson[/autotag] and [autotag]Lior Berman[/autotag] holding down the two position.

Check out Auburn’s projected rotation for all positions here.

A season in review: Lior Berman

The next subject of our “Year in Review” series is Lior Berman, who averaged 2.2 points per game as a senior for the Tigers.

The Auburn Tigers ended the 2022-23 season with a loss in the NCAA Tournament, falling to Houston in the round of 32. As the program begins to transition to the offseason, Auburn Wire will take time to reflect on the season that was by highlighting the accomplishments of this year’s team.

Senior guard [autotag]Lior Berman[/autotag] is our next year-in-review spotlight player.

Berman’s first three seasons didn’t see the Birmingham native have much of a role, but that all changed this season. Berman saw meaningful minutes all season and was on the floor during some big moments.

Berman averaged 2.2 points and 1.2 rebounds per game this season. His season high came when he scored eight points in Auburn’s 67-65 loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores in February.

Here are some of the best moments from Berman’s season:

Could Allen Flanigan and Jaylin Williams return to Auburn’s roster next season?

Both players went through senior day ceremonies on Saturday, but is there a chance that they could be doing the same thing next season?

Prior to Auburn’s 79-70 win over No. 14 Tennessee on Saturday afternoon, seven players took part in the annual “senior day” festivities as they prepared to play their final game at Neville Arena.

However, due to the extra season of eligibility that a majority of Auburn’s upperclassmen own, there is a possibility that two starters could grace next season’s roster.

[autotag]Allen Flanigan[/autotag] and [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag] have been mainstays in Auburn’s starting rotation all season long and were heavily influential in Auburn’s important win over Tennessee to close out the season by scoring 16 and 13 points respectively.

“Hopefully we can get both of them back,” Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl said of Flanigan and Williams after Saturday’s game.

Is there a true possibility of both players returning for next season? Neither has ruled out the possibility.

Ahead of Saturday’s game, both players were asked to share their thoughts on using their extra season of eligibility due to COVID next season.

“Right now, I’m focused on the season and finishing this thing out the right way. Once that comes to an end I will start thinking about the factors then,” Flanigan said Friday during Auburn’s scheduled media availability.

Williams responded by saying that he is focused on ending the season in a strong way.

“Yeah, I haven’t really been thinking about it much,” Williams said. “We have been struggling to win games like the last five weekends. I’m just trying to get on track with my teammates and figure out how we are going to win and play through March.”

Flanigan has played in all 31 of Auburn’s games this season, starting 16 of them. As for Williams, he has started in all 30 games that he has participated in. Other seniors that took part in senior day include [autotag]Zep Jasper[/autotag], [autotag]Chandler Leopard[/autotag], [autotag]Lior Berman[/autotag], [autotag]Babatunde Akingbola[/autotag], and [autotag]Jalen Harper[/autotag].

Instant Analysis: Four reach double-figures in Auburn’s close win over Ole Miss

The Tigers remain in the NCAA Tournament hunt after a tight win over Ole Miss at Neville Arena.

Auburn did not officially earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday, but they sure helped their case.

In a game that saw five lead changes and six moments with a tie score, Auburn won its battle with Ole Miss at Neville Arena, 78-74, earning the season sweep over the Rebels.

The Tigers were seen as heavy favorites heading into the contest and showed signs of dominance at times throughout the game, leading by as many as 12. But no matter how many runs or strong leads that the Tigers put together, they could not seem to run away from the Rebels.

After a back-and-forth effort throughout, Auburn was able to put the nail in the coffin at the 4:44 mark in the second half. [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] made a second-chance layup to break a 64-64 tie. That basket would prove to be vital, as Auburn would only outscore the Rebels 12-10 over the final five minutes to escape with the win.

The Tigers jumped out to an 8-4 lead at the first media timeout behind a perfect free-throw outing by [autotag]Allen Flanigan[/autotag] and [autotag]Zep Jasper[/autotag]. Flanigan set the tone of the game with a wide-open dunk at the 17:13 mark that put Auburn ahead, 6-4.

Auburn extended its lead to nine points over the next three minutes to move their lead to 17-8. [autotag]K.D. Johnson[/autotag] scored his first basket of the game, a three-pointer, and [autotag]Lior Berman[/autotag] slammed home a shot with 12:20 to go in the half, forcing Ole Miss to call a timeout.

Following the timeout, Ole Miss began chipping away at Auburn’s lead, and ultimately re-took the lead. Theo Akwuba tied the game at 24-24 with 6:36 remaining in the first half, and Matthew Murrell gave his team the 26-24 lead 36 seconds later on a layup to erase the once nine-point deficit.

Both teams would trade leads two times over the final 5:39 in the half before Auburn entered halftime with the 40-33 lead. Auburn outscored Ole Miss 14-7 over the final 5:05 to jump out to a seven-point halftime lead, and led by as many as nine points during the stretch.

Auburn’s first-half momentum stayed with them into the second half, as they would lead by as many as 12 points through the first four minutes of the half. Flanigan connected on a three-pointer with 18:10 remaining in regulation to give Auburn the 46-34 lead, their first double-digit lead of the game.

The lead was shortlived, however, as Ole Miss went on a 13-0 run over a span of 3:19 to take a 58-55 lead over Auburn with 9:44 remaining in the game. [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag] ended Ole Miss’ run with a dunk at the 7:51 mark to cut their lead to 60-59.

James White of Ole Miss nailed a three-pointer with 6:21 remaining to move their lead to 63-59. That shot would light a spark for Auburn as the Tigers would rattle off five unanswered points in 32 seconds to retake the lead, 64-63.

Auburn solidified the win by taking control of the final 5:12 of game time. The Tigers broke the 64-64 tie with a Broome layup. The score would give Auburn a six-point boost with 3:14 left in the game, 70-64.

Four Tigers ended the game in double-figures led by Green’s 23-point outing. Broome followed with 19, Williams posted 12 points while Flanigan scored 11.

Auburn will take part in its final SEC road weekend game of the season on Saturday when it faces Kentucky at Rupp Arena in Lexington. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. CT and can be seen on CBS.
