Oklahoma’s CeeDee Lamb going through warmups, says he is ‘good’

Oklahoma may have had its first break of tonight’s game against Baylor as it looks like CeeDee Lamb is healthy and ready to go.

No. 10 Oklahoma (8-1, 5-1) may have had its first break of tonight’s game against No. 13 Baylor (9-0, 6-0).

Star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was reportedly ‘questionable’ for tonight’s game against Baylor. He is fully dressed out, going through initial warmups and is now out with the team in pregame stretches. By all accounts, Oklahoma’s best player is ready to go tonight.

As he was heading off the field earlier, he told some fans he was “good” with a smile on his face.

The junior has been Lincoln Riley’s big play and go-to receiver all season. Lamb has 983 receiving yards on 44 receptions, good for 22.3 yards a catch, and has hauled in 13 touchdowns.

Many of those touchdowns were short hitch routes that Lamb housed by breaking tackles and then evading an entire defense. He has truly been Oklahoma’s best offense since the season kicked off against Houston.

The Sooners and Baylor are set to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC.

Oklahoma’s Adrian Ealy going through warmups ahead of Baylor game

Oklahoma is getting good news ahead of its big matchup with Baylor as one of its starting offensive lineman looks to be ready to go.

No. 10 Oklahoma (8-1, 5-1) is getting good news on the injury front ahead of tonight’s game against No. 13 Baylor (9-0, 6-0).

As the initial warmups started for Saturday night’s game, starting right tackle Adrian Ealy ran out and participated in the initial offensive line drills with the rest of the offensive lineman. Ealy got hurt in the Iowa State a week ago and exited the game.

Head coach Lincoln Riley said on Monday that he did not know about his right tackle’s status. Offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh did not confirm or update his status at Tuesday’s media availability.

Oklahoma has had a mix of offensive line units already this season as Ealy and others have missed time. If he were not to go, Bedenbaugh confirmed on Tuesday that Virginia grad transfer R.J. Proctor would slide into the starting offensive line unit.

The Sooners and Baylor will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC.

The Sooners opened up as their smallest betting favorites of the year earlier in the week as 8.5-point favorites. As the game gets closer to kickoff, Oklahoma is settling in as 10.5-point favorites over the Bears, according to BetMGM.

The game total is set at 67.5, which BetMGM has with -134 juice—meaning they do not want to move that line up to 68.

Unfortunate news has hit prior to Oklahoma’s game against Baylor as the Sooners’ best player is questionable to play tonight.

The Sooners offense may be jeopardy tonight.

No. 10 Oklahoma (8-1, 5-1) star receiver—maybe the best receiver in college football—CeeDee Lamb is questionable for the primetime, nationally televised matchup against No. 13 Baylor (9-0, 6-0), according to a report from George Stoia of the OU Daily.

Jalen Hurts named Johnny Unitas Golden Arm finalist

Oklahoma quarterback, Jalen Hurts is one of five finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

Oklahoma quarterback, Jalen Hurts is one of five finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

Hurts is accompanied by fellow Heisman Trophy candidate, Joe Burrow from LSU, Oregon’s Justin Herbert, Utah’s Tyler Huntley and Brady White of Memphis.

The award is strictly for quarterbacks and is named after NFL legend, Johnny Unitas. Unitas played at the University of Louisville before being drafted by the Baltimore Colts in 1958. His 18 year career is one of the more decorated careers in NFL history.

Hurts looks to join past winners Mason Rudolph from Oklahoma State (2017), Andrew Luck of Stanford (2011), Tennessee’s Peyton Manning (1997) and fellow Sooner, Jason White (2004) as Unitas Award winners.

The award winner will be announced as part of the ESPN College Football Awards Show on December 12.

Hurts has thrown for 2,742 yards, 24 touchdowns and four interceptions while rushing for 869 yards and 15 touchdowns so far this season.

Hurts and the Sooners take on the Baylor Bears this Saturday at 7:30pm CT on ABC.

OKLAHOMA WINS IF…

… Jalen Hurts does Jalen Hurts things. Last week, Hurts did not look like himself, throwing a, interception on a throw that even a freshman high school quarterback probably would not have forced. This week should be different. An atmosphere as similar to an SEC game as a Big 12 game can get and with implications that Hurts is familiar with, Hurts should be comfortable in the spotlight. Against Iowa State, Hurts was caught off guard with the pressure. If Hurts knows the stakes coming into a game, history favors him playing well.

… they run the ball. It sounds simple but it has been such a problem for the Sooners recently. Establishing the run with an offensive line that has been somewhat subpar so far this season will have to be a necessity Saturday night. With Trey Sermon out for the season and Rhamondre Stevenson limping around the field last week, Oklahoma’s running backs room is wounded but not all the way out. Running the ball with players other than Jalen Hurts will have to happen if the Sooners want to walk away with the win.

… the defense steps up. I know, I know I’m beating a dead horse. But the Oklahoma defense has to show some signs of life following two straight games of nearly flatlining. It will be a tall task but the defense has an opportunity to show the nation that the Sooners should still have a shot at making the playoff.

OKLAHOMA LOSES IF…

… Jalen Hurts lays an egg. Although Hurts has played in regular season games with similar postseason implications, Waco at night is different. Baylor will play with nothing to lose unlike teams Hurts faced while at Alabama. With the Bears lined up across from him, the chances Hurts folds are just as high as him deciding to run on a pass play.

… Lincoln Riley fails to establish the run. Bad things can happen and happen quickly if the offense cannot gain decent yardage on the ground.

… Alex Grinch’s defense fails to make the trip to Waco. If the Sooners look anything like they did the past two games on the defensive side of the ball, Oklahoma may be in trouble.

Oklahoma lands commitment from 3-star receiver Marvin Mims

Oklahoma continues to target the Dallas-Fort Worth area for receivers. The Sooners second receiver from the 2020 class committed Thursday.

Oklahoma continues to target the Dallas-Fort Worth area for pass-catchers.

After landing a trio from the DFW metroplex in 2019, the Sooners have landed their second for the 2020 class. Three-star receiver Marvin Mims (Frisco Lone Star; Frisco, Texas) announced that he was flipping from Stanford to Oklahoma Thursday night, making him the Sooners 18th commitment for the 2020 class.

Mims committed to Stanford over Oklahoma and a handful of other suitors on Aug. 14. As the season went on, the idea of Mims looking back towards the Sooners came to fruition with a visit and flip from the Cardinal.

The 6-foot-1, 168 pound receiver joins Trevon West as the receivers for this 2020 class. While West has the speed, Mims has the intangibles, route-running and toughness in the slot that has fit well at Oklahoma, most recently with Sterling Shepard.

Head coach Lincoln Riley and Oklahoma are likely done at the skill positions for the 2020 class after Thursday’s commitment.

The first national signing day is just over a month away on Dec. 18.

Oklahoma does sense when home crowd thins out, per Lincoln Riley

As the time started to wane in Oklahoma’s game against Iowa State, the crowd was thin—something OU can sense, according to Lincoln Riley.

Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley didn’t call out Oklahoma fans … until he did.

The Sooners’ head football coach is as calculated in terms of relaying a message as it gets. When asked about the crowd thinning out after halftime of Saturday’s game, Riley didn’t initially touch it.

After halftime, Oklahoma was in control or up by three touchdowns for most of the second-half.

 

“It’s our job as coaches and players that we gotta play to our level no matter what,” he said at his press conference Monday. “That is certainly our job, and I would never put that on our fans or anybody else’s fans or any atmosphere or any stadium.”

Then the crowd thinned out, and it’s clear he noticed it.

“Now, the flipside of that, like I’ve said up here many times, we have one of the great stadiums in America, we have one of the great fan bases in America, and when it’s rocking in there, does our team feel that? Hell yeah, they do,” Riley said. “And when it’s not, do they feel that? Hell yeah, they do. Yup.”

With a win this week against Baylor, the Sooners may be in play for another night game in its final home game against TCU on Nov. 23 as the Big 12 conference

So … Yup.

Now, Oklahoma heads to Waco, Texas, to take on No. 10 Baylor (9-0, 6-0) in a primtime matchup that has brought the presence of College GameDay to the Bears’ campus.

The Sooners have been huge favorites for most of the season, but oddsmakers think this will be their closest game of the season as Oklahoma opened up as an 8.5-point favorite over Baylor according to BetMGM.
