Massachusetts at Liberty: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 1:50 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: No line posted as of this publishing
  • Against the spread/ATS: Massachusetts +37.5 (-110) | Liberty -37 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 56.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Massachusetts at Liberty: Three things to know

  1. The Minutemen were blanked offensively last week, notching just a safety in a 24-2 loss at FAU last Friday. UMass has scored 12 total points across three outings, and they have failed to score an offensive point in two of those contests. They allowed 92 total points in the first two games before yielding just the 24 last week, but that’s mostly a product of FAU’s struggling offense.
  2. The Flames were torching everyone offensively, posting 28 or more points in each of the first eight outings. That figured to continue last week against a leaky N.C. State defense, but Liberty went down in flames by a 15-14 score, suffering its first setback of the season. They still covered, running their cover streak to 6-0 ATS in the past six.
  3. The Flames rank 23rd in points scored per game, 37.6, while allowing 21.3 PPG to check in 23rd defensively. They are also seventh in the nation with just 172.9 passing yards per game allowed, and 37th with 136.6 rushing yards per contest. QB Malik Willis has passed for 1,817 yards, 17 touchdowns and four interceptions while running for a team-best 744 yards and nine scores.

Massachusetts at Liberty: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Liberty 51, Massachusetts 10

Money line (ML)

There was no money line posted as of this publishing, probably because of the lopsided spread. It wouldn’t be worth pursuing, anyway.

Against the spread (ATS)

LIBERTY -37 (-110) will get on track against this struggling Massachusetts side, which is averaging just 4.0 PPG this season. Liberty has gone for 56 or more points in two of the past four outings, and they have covered six in a row. They’ll get back on track in a big way against a UMass side, which is an FBS football team in name only. They’re more like a mediocre FCS side.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 56.5 (-110) is the best play on the board in this game, and the Flames are more than capable of inching the total over the line even if the Minutemen cannot put any points on the board. Willis and company will be ornery after taking their first L in Raleigh last weekend.

Liberty at NC State: Three things to know

  • NC State is the third Atlantic Coast Conference foe Liberty has taken on this fall. The Hugh Freeze-led Flames defeated Syracuse 38-21 Oct. 17, and Virginia Tech 38-35 Nov. 7. Those two games are sandwiched in a  five-game stretch (Oct. 10-Nov. 14)  that has seen LU average 46 points per contest. For the season, the Flames have averaged 40.5 points per game (16th FBS).
  • Liberty marks the third straight ranked opponent (UNC, Miami) NC State has played. Overall, the Wolfpack are 1-3 straight-up and 2-2 against the spread in four games against ranked foes this fall.
  • Flames QB Malik Willis — a transfer from Auburn — has thrown 15 touchdown passes while running in 9 scores. Willis has a team-high 700 rushing yards on the year, and that run game figures to be key against an NC State squad which has yielded 178.5 rushing yards per game. In two of the ‘Pack’s three losses (Virginia Tech, Miami), running quarterbacks torched NC State for a combined 198 yards on 34 carries.

Liberty at NC State: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

NC State 28, Liberty 24

Money line (ML)

Too much gray area: PASS ON PRICE.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Wolfpack have played the much tougher schedule, and their most recent misstep — a 48-21 loss to North Carolina on Oct. 24 — was very much colored by four giveaways (NC State is a minus-3 in turnover margin for the season). The ATS line makes for a PASS — it brackets the odds of a 1-7 point Wolfpack win on both sides.

Over/Under (O/U)

The strongest play here is on shading a lower scoring game between two teams that run more than the average FBS team does in 2020. Laying out all the game-flow scenarios, a mid-50s-to-low-60s total comes out more often than a figure in the 70s. The Under has hit each of the last six times NC State has been favored in a home game. BACK THE UNDER 65.5 (-110).

Liberty at Virginia Tech odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Liberty vs. Virginia Tech sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Liberty Flames (6-0 Indep.) and Virginia Tech Hokies (4-2, 4-2 ACC) meet at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Va. for a 12 p.m. ET kickoff Saturday. Below, we analyze the Liberty-Virginia Tech college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Flames notched their first-ever ranking in The Associated Press Top 25, and they also received 92 points in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Liberty at Virginia Tech: Betting odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 7:30 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Liberty +425 (bet $100 to win $425) | Virginia Tech -589 (bet $589 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Liberty +14.5 (-110) | Virginia Tech -14.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 67.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Liberty at Virginia Tech: Three things to know

  1. The Flames head into this one with six wins and no losses straight up, while covering each of the past three. They haven’t been an underdog since Sept. 19, their opener at Western Kentucky, and they won outright 30-24 as 14.5-point underdogs.
  2. Liberty enters with 471.3 total yards per game (17th in the country), 255.5 rushing yards (6th) and 38.0 points (16th) per game. Defensively the Flames are strong, too, allowing just 294.0 total yards (10th), 174.2 passing yards (9th) and 21.3 points allowed (21st) per game. Dual-threat QB Malik Willis has passed for 1,122 yards and nine touchdowns while running for 495 yards and six touchdowns.
  3. Virginia Tech is averaging 42.5 PPG in two home games while going 2-0 SU/ATS. The Hokies have also allowed just 19.0 PPG in two games at Lane Stadium, including a 40-14 win over Boston College Oct. 17, in their most recent showing.

Liberty at Virginia Tech: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Virginia Tech 41, Liberty 34

Money line (ML)

Virginia Tech (-589) will cost you nearly six times your potential return, as they’re the heavy favorites despite actually being ranked lower than visiting Liberty (+425). If anything, the high-flying Flames are worth a small-unit play. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

LIBERTY (+14.5, -110) is a strong play catching 14 and a hook. Head coach Hugh Freeze has this team playing just as well as the ACC’s Virginia Tech (-14.5, -110), and they’re certainly fast and strong enough to hang with the middling Hokies. A spread of this nature is, quite frankly, a slap in the face of the Flames. Bad for them, but good for you. Take advantage.

Over/Under (O/U)

Play the OVER 67.5 (-110) in this non-conference tilt for the Hokies. Virginia Tech has posted 38 or more points in five of its six games to date, hitting the Over four times. Liberty dropped 56 on Southern Miss last time out, and scored 38 in a win over the ACC’s Syracuse Orange on the road in Week 7. This team has scored 28 or more points in each of its six games to date. This will be a track meet.
