Warriors’ Lester Quinones caps Summer League with fiery 32-point performance vs. Raptors

Lester Quinones put an exclamation point on his impressive Summer League performance with 32 points in the finale against the Raptors on Saturday.

After impressing throughout the Summer League, Lester Quinones put an exclamation point on his time in Las Vegas with a sizzling effort in the Golden State Warriors’ finale on Saturday against the Toronto Raptors.

Despite the Warriors going winless in the Summer League with an 0-5 record, Quinones showed the ability to score in bunches and lead the team in scoring in Las Vegas. After putting together multiple performances with over 25 points in the Summer League, Quinones caught fire in the finale on Saturday against the Raptors for a game-high 32 points.

On his way to 32 points, Quinones shot 8-of-17 from the field with four made triples to go along with six assists, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks in 32 minutes.

Throughout the Summer League, Quinones made a serious case for one of the Warriors’ final roster spots or a two-way deal with the team heading into training camp.

Quinones earned the G League’s Most Improved Player award before earning a 10-day deal with the Warriors. Quinones finished the season on a two-way contract with Golden State.

Lester Quinones continued his impressive start to the Summer League with an early fast break dunk against the Hornets in the California Classic.

With an impressive fourth quarter run in the California Classic opener against the Sacramento Kings on Monday, an early Summer League hero has risen for the Golden State Warriors.

Second year guard Lester Quinones dropped 13 of his team-high 26 points against the Kings in the California Classic opener on Monday in Sacramento.

Following his performance in his first Summer League appearance on Monday, the Memphis product picked up where he left off in game two on Wednesday. For their second game of the California Classic, the Warriors met the Charlotte Hornets and Quinones got involved early in the contest.

In the opening minutes, the 22-year-old guard flew down the court for a fast break that he ended with an exclamation point dunk. On his way to the rim, Quinones soared past 2023 No. 2 overall pick Brandon Miller.

Highlights: Warriors’ Lester Quinones drops 26 points in California Classic opener vs. Kings

Lester Quinones stole the show for the Warriors with 26 points in the California Classic opener on Monday against the Kings.

While all eyes were on 2023 first-round pick Brandin Podziemski in the California Classic opener against the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center, another member of the Golden State Warriors Summer League team stole the show on Monday night.

Lester Quinones took over for the Warriors on Monday night against the Kings, scoring a team-high 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field with five made triples to go along with four rebounds and two assists in 27 minutes. Quinones heated up in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 of his points in the final frame.

Despite Golden State’s loss to Sacramento, Monday marked an impressive start to the Summer League for the Memphis product heading into his second season.

After going undrafted out of Memphis in 2022, Quinones signed a two-way contract with the Warriors. However, he was waived by the Warriors before the start of the season.

Quinones spent most of his rookie season in the G League with the Santa Cruz Warriors. Quinones was named the NBA G League Most Improved Player for the 2022-23 season.

The 6-foot-4 guard signed a 10-day contract with the Warriors and later earned a two-way deal with Golden State. He played in four games, averaging 2.5 points in 4.5 minutes per game.

Warriors to sign G League standout Lester Quinones to 10-day contract

Quinones was named the G League Player of the Week after producing a career-high 42 points on Saturday with Santa Cruz.

Santa Cruz Warriors guard Lester Quinones will sign a 10-day contract with the Golden State Warriors, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Quinones, who went undrafted last year out of Memphis, appeared in summer league with the Warriors and signed a two-way contract with the team. He was waived prior to the start of the season and sent to Santa Cruz in the G League.

The 22-year-old is averaging 19.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists on 38.8% shooting from 3-point range in 39 games. He was named the G League Player of the Week after producing a career-high 42 points on Saturday.

He is one of 27 players to score at least 40 points this season.

Quinones will fill the 15th spot on the Warriors’ roster and will provide some depth in the backcourt over the duration of his contract. He has the ability to score at a high level and should give the team some floor spacing off the bench.

Warriors waive two-way players Quinndary Weatherspoon and Lester Quinones

The Warriors have opened a pair of two-way contract spots after waiving Quinndary Weatherspoon and Lester Quinones.

Prior to their final preseason game and opening night, the Golden State Warriors made some changes to their roster.

On Thursday, the Warriors announced the team is waiving Quinndary Weatherspoon and rookie Lester Quinones. Both Weatherspoon and Quinones were locked into Golden State’s pair of two-way contract slots.

After joining the Warriors in 2022, Weatherspoon played in 11 games for the Warriors, averaging 2.7 points on 57.1% shooting from the field with 1.3 rebounds in 6.6 minutes per contest. Weatherspoon has been featured in all four of the Warriors’ recent preseason games. 

Quinones signed a two-way deal with the Warriors after going undrafted out of Memphis in the 2022 NBA draft.

With Weatherspoon and Quinones waived, the Warriors have opened up a pair of two-way spots on their roster. The Warriors will have some flexibility at the bottom of their roster for the remainder of training camp. 

If the Warriors decided to fill their two-way spots with players currently at camp, Jerome Robinson, Ty Jerome and Pat Spencer could be options.

The Warriors will play their final preseason game on Friday against the Denver Nuggets at San Francisco’s Chase Center.

Warriors sign Memphis’ Lester Quinones to two-way contract

Quinones debuted with the Warriors in the California Classic, averaging 9.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in three games.

Former Memphis guard Lester Quinones on Tuesday signed a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors, the team announced.

Quinones, who went undrafted last month, averaged 10 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.2 steals on 39% shooting from 3-point range last season. He ranked seventh among qualified players in the American Athletic Conference in 3-point percentage and 13th in 3s (55).

The 21-year-old debuted with the Warriors in the California Classic, averaging 9.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and one steal on 35.7% shooting from 3-point range in three games. He is also expected to play in the Las Vegas Summer League when the team begins on Friday.

Quinones will split his time between Golden State and the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA G League. He is eligible to spend no more than 50 games in the NBA and will earn a flat salary equal to 50% of the minimum salary applicable to a player with zero years of service.

Warriors sign rookie Lester Quinones to two-way contract

The Warriors filled one of their two-way contracts with the addition of rookie guard Lester Quinones out of Memphis.

While building their roster during the free agency phase of the offseason, the Golden State Warriors filled one of their two-way contract slots. While Summer League action is heating up at Chase Center for the California Classic, the Warriors signed rookie guard Lester Quinones to a two-way contract.

The 21-year-old guard played three seasons at Memphis before going undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft.

During his time with Penny Hardaway and the Tigers, Quinones averaged 10.1 points on 42.9% shooting from the field and 36.9% shooting from beyond the arc, with 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest.

In his final season at Memphis, the 6-foot-5 guard started 30 games, averaging 10.0 points on 44.9% shooting from the floor with 3.5 boards, 1.3 assists and 1.2 steals in 27.2 minutes per game. Against UCF in the AAC Conference Tournament, Quinones dropped a season-high 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field with five triples, two boards and a steal.

In a recent appearance at the Summer League against the Los Angeles Lakers, Quinones tallied a game-high 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor with three triples and five boards in 25 minutes at Chase Center in the California Classic.

In the past, the Warriors have had success with the development of two-way contract players like Damion Lee, Juan Toscano-Anderson, Quinn Cook and Marquese Chriss.

Lester Quinones: My niche to get into the league right now is 3-and-D. So just going in and really locking in on defense, and hitting open shots. I feel like that’s what’s just going to get me into the league. Once I’m there, that’s when I can just really show more of my complete game, like making reads, coming off the pick and roll, making passes, showing my IQ, and stuff like that…just 3-and-D for now, and then just let my game grow once I get there.
