Beverage of the Week: Simply got spiked lemonade (almost) exactly right

The regular lemonade is… whatever. The flavored versions, however, completely rule.

Welcome back to FTW’s Beverage of the Week series. Previously, we’ve folded these in to our betting guides, whether that’s been for the NFL slate or a bizarrely successful run through the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Here, we mostly chronicle and review beers, but happily expand that scope to any beverage that pairs well with sports. Yes, even cookie dough whiskey

Like I’ve said before, I’m open to trying just about anything. But after being tricked into sipping sunscreen salad dressing (TikTok’s healthy Cokes), I needed a win.

Simply Spiked Lemonade was already on my radar after hearing good things about their foray into the world of adult beverages. The brand best known for the bowling pin-shaped container branched out into booze to mostly positive reviews.

Would it be the new hotness in a market that’s turned hard to beer alternatives in the summer months? Or would White Claw’s unfortunate foray into lemonade be the template for disappointment?

A look back at reaction to Tony Vitello’s lemonade stand during 2018 suspension

A look back at reaction to Tony Vitello’s lemonade stand during his 2018 suspension.

Tony Vitello is serving a four-game suspension following being ejected from game No. 2 of the Tennessee-Alabama series April 16.

Vitello is slated to return as Tennessee’s head coach Sunday in the Vols’ series finale at Florida. Tennessee pitching coach Frank Anderson was also ejected April 16 and served a one-game suspension in the series finale against Alabama.

The Southeastern Conference released a statement to Vols Wire on Tennessee’s ejections.

Penalties related to ejections are governed by the NCAA. By procedure, umpires file a postgame report to the NCAA and the NCAA then provides a report (generally the following morning) to the conference office to confirm any related penalties associated with the ejection, at which time any penalties are communicated to the school.

Vitello was also suspended during his first season at Tennessee in 2018. He received a two-game suspension.

Ahead of Tennessee’s contest against Vanderbilt on May 11, 2018, the suspended Vitello set up a lemonade stand and had a pizza party outside Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Proceeds benefited the National CASA Association.

Below is a look back at reaction of Vitello’s first suspension at Tennessee and holding a lemonade stand and pizza party.
