Nation’s No. 1 DL names Georgia football among top schools

Overton is the No. 1 player in Georgia and the top defensive lineman in the country.

Georgia football may be getting ready for a top-5 clash with Clemson in a couple of weeks, but that doesn’t mean recruiting stops.

On Wednesday, the Bulldogs made the top-12 schools for one of the best players in the country in five-star defensive lineman Lebbeus Overton.

Overton, out of Milton High School in Alpharetta, Ga., is rated as the No. 1 defensive lineman in the nation, the No. 1 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 2 prospect overall in the 2023 recruiting class, per 247Sports Composite.

Overton (6-foot-5, 265 pounds) will choose among Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Clemson, LSU, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, USC and Florida.

Overton is versatile, playing both basketball and football at Milton high. But that’s no surprise as Overton’s family is full of division-one athletes.

Overton’s mother was a star volleyball player at Kentucky and his father is a former Oklahoma offensive lineman who served as assistant athletic director at Texas A&M and is currently athletic director at Kennesaw State. Even Overton’s brother played defensive line at Liberty.

While Oklahoma reportedly leads the charge right now, Georgia is no stranger to closing big-time commits, especially in-state. The Bulldogs currently hold the No. 2 recruiting class in 2023 behind the Sooners.
