Head coach Jimbo Fisher’s press conference after Aggies’ loss to South Carolina

Head coach Jimbo Fisher’s press conference after the Aggies’ loss to South Carolina

Texas A&M dropped its third game in a row after falling to the South Carolina Gamecocks 30-24 on Saturday night while reaching a dreadful 3-4 record, with a 1-3 mark in the SEC.

Texas A&M trailed from start to finish, as the Gamecocks burst out to a 17-0 lead after 5 minutes played, yet the Aggies mounted a short comeback to cut into the deficit after two Randy Bond field goals, and a Haynes King touchdown pass to tight end Max Wright (plus the two-point conversion) with 2:00 minutes left in the 2nd quarter making it 17-14 at the half.

In the second half, the Aggies held the momentum edge, yet it seemed that the team didn’t get the message, as both sides stalled offensively until an 18-yard touchdown run by Gamecocks running back Marshawn Lloyd with 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. However, Texas A&M’s stout defense stepped up once again as Edge Fadil Diggs sack-fumbled quarterback Spencer Rattler which eventually set up a 15-yard Devon Achane rushing touchdown making it 24-21 going into the 4th quarter.

With a chance to take the lead after another defensive stop, quarterback Haynes King, who had already taken quite the beating due to the offensive line’s horrendous play throughout the night, hurt his shoulder which vaulted freshman Conner Weigman into the starting spot, who completed 8-15 for 91 yards on the night but did not have time in the pocket to make the throws when it mattered most.

After a long South Carolina offensive drive, Marshawn Lloyd scampered in for his second rushing touchdown on the night, and after a Randy bond field goal and a last-second hail mary attempt by the Aggies after recovering the onside kick, the game was over, and the Bonham Trophy will be making its way to Columbia, South Carolina.

With that, here are the most notable quotes from head coach Jimbo Fisher, Layden Robinson, and Fadil Diggs.

Watch: Jimbo Fisher’s press conference after Aggies’ loss to Alabama

Watch: Head coach Jimbo Fisher spoke after Texas A&M fell to Alabama 24-20

I’ve seen them win, I’ve seen them lose, but I’ve never (or at least rarely) seen them quit, and after the Aggies fell to the No.1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide 24-20 on Saturday night, that same feeling came over me after the shock of almost pulling off the upset in the final seconds eventually started to wear off.

Going into the matchup, Texas A&M was a -24 point underdog after coming off of their embarrassing 42-24 loss to Mississippi State a week prior, as the undefeated Crimson Tide, and practically the entire sports media landscape smelled blood in the water before the Aggies could even make their case.

Quarterback Haynes King made his third start of the season taking over for the injured Max Johnson while throwing for 253 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception in what was his toughest performance to date, with two of his scores coming off of two of the four Alabama turnovers, spotting the Aggies 17 out of the 20 points on the night.

Freshman wide receiver Evan Stewart recorded his first 100-yard receiving game while snagging an incredible sideline catch in the 4th quarter, while freshman tight end Donovan Green notched his first career touchdown catch in the second quarter to tie the game at 14-14, while sophomore wideout Moose Muhammad continued his streak of stellar play recording 6 receptions for 64 yards and a touchdown.

The story of the night and the silver lining for the team? The defense was stellar, tough, resilient, and most of all showed impressive consistency. As defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin implemented the 4-man front against the Tide, the Aggies accounted for 4 sacks on the night, with Sophomore Fadil Diggs accounting for 2 sacks on his own.

After the loss, head coach Jimbo Fisher, Layden Robinson, and Fadil Diggs spoke to the media, and courtesy of Texas A&M Athletics, here is what they had to say:

Player’s post-game press conference: Week 5 quotes

Texas A&M Player’s post-game press conference: Week 5 quotes

Texas A&M fell to Mississippi State 42-24 in what was the ugliest performance I’ve personally witnessed under a Jimbo Fisher-led Aggie football team during his tenure, and yes, that includes their early season loss to Appalachian State.

What’s to blame? pretty much every aspect of the offense and defense to start, but the interior of the offensive line giving up pressure after pressure, and eventually resulting in a hand injury to starting quarterback Max Johnson in the second half certainly did not help to give the offensive any consistency throughout the matchup.

The defense had its moments, forcing a turnover in the 3rd quarter which eventually led to the Aggies cutting the lead to 21-10, but as the game progressed, what seemed to be a lack of effort, combined with numerous coverage busts made one of the more reliable defensive units in the county look completely inept by games end.

One of the few bright spots on the day was the play of sophomore wide receiver Moose Muhammad II, who taking over for the injured Ainias Smith led the team in receptions (6), receiving yards (119), and receiving touchdowns (1).

Texas A&M is 3-2, exactly where they were this time last year after losing to Mississippi State before facing Alabama and defeating the Tide in one of the biggest upsets in college football history. Going on the road against Alabama after being completely run over in Starkville? Good Luck.

After the game, head coach Jimbo Fisher and a group of key players spoke to the media about their loss to Mississippi State. Here are the most notable quotes from Demani Richardson, and Layden Robinson.

Players’ post-game Press Conference: Week 3 Quotes

Select Players speak after 17-9 win over Miami

Texas A&M (2-1) is coming off their best victory of the year so far, defeating the then 13th-ranked Miami Hurricanes among a sold-out Kyle Field, with the third largest crowd in history at 107,245 attending the primetime contest.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher entered the week surrounded by media criticism after coming off of one of their more shocking losses in program history against Appalachian State a week prior, knowing that a win against a top 20 ranked opponent under the lights of Kyle Field could finally get the team back on track.

In what was a fierce defensive battle for most of the contest, Newly minted starting quarterback Max Johnson engineered three scoring drives, while the Aggies scored the only two touchdowns of the game. Running back Devon Achane and wide receiver Ainias Smith led the team offensively, accounting for 204 yards out of 264 for the night.

Overall, Texas A&M’s defense was the story of the night, as pre-game player suspensions paired with multiple ejections for targeting during the game (Demani Richardson, Brian George) gave the defense all they could handle, as D.J Durkin rotated in as many players as he could, with a bulk of the snaps given to true freshmen.

After the thrilling win, Jimbo Fisher as well as a group of select players answered questions about the game, looking forward to their always exciting SEC opening game against the Arkansas Razorbacks next Saturday night. Here are the best quotes from Layden Robinson, Max Johnson, and Jaylon Jones:

Texas A&M Players Press Conference Week 3

Layden Robinson, Ainias Smith, and Demani Richardson all spoke during Monday’s press conference

Texas A&M is attempting to move forward from their disastrous Sept. 10th loss to the Appalachian State Mountaineers,  After being ranked 6th in both the AP and USA Today Coaches Poll going into the game, the Aggies have surprisingly remained in both rankings after the loss, dropping to 22nd in the Coaches Poll, and 24th in the AP Top 25.

On Monday, Head coach Jimbo Fisher and select players spoke to the media, answering questions about the loss, while looking towards their all-important prime-time matchup this Saturday against the 13th-ranked (AP Poll) Miami Hurricanes.

After players including Layden Robinson, Ainias Smith, and Demani Richardson took the mic, Fisher came in right after to detail just what went wrong against Appalachian State, and how important this week’s practice is to fix whatever caused this Aggies roster to struggle for four quarters against the men from Boone, North Carolina.

Here are some of the most notable quotes from Layden Robinson, Ainias Smith, and Demani Richardson:

Layden Robinson lone Aggie to land on ESPN’s 2022 college football preseason All-America team

Layden Robinson lone Aggie to land on ESPN’s 2022 college football preseason All-America team

We are now only a few days away from the first kickoff of the 2022 college football season, and as always entertaining and widely debated preseason watchlists begin to finalize, ESPN has finally released their 2022 preseason All-America team, featuring the premier interior offensive lineman for the Aggies this season, redshirt junior offensive lineman Layden Robinson.

Now, if you haven’t already thought to yourself “wait, that’s it” let me remind you that star defensive back Antonio Johnson did not make the team at either corner or safety, presumably being replaced by standout safety for the Arkansas Razorbacks, Jalen Catalon. As a somewhat disrespectful snub towards Johnson who has already made over 14 preseason team and individual watchlists, we all couldn’t be prouder of Layden Robinson’s selection as one of the top offensive linemen in college football this season.

Here’s what ESPN Senior Writer Chris Low said about his selection of the standout right guard:

Jimbo Fisher has strengthened both lines of scrimmage at Texas A&M in recent years, and the 6-4, 330-pound Robinson is poised for a breakout season from his right guard position. This is his fourth year in the program, and he made his first career start a year ago. He has everything it takes to blossom into the top interior offensive lineman in college football this season.

In what could be his final season with the program, look for Layden Robinson to emerge as a surging NFL Draft prospect by midseason, as he aims to anchor a talented offensive line poised to be one of the reliable strengths for Jimbo Fisher and Co.

Three Aggies included in ESPN’s top 100 players for 2022

Three Aggies included in ESPN’s top 100 players for 2022

Texas A&M football was well represented on ESPN’s top 100 players list for the 2022 college football season. As one of the most anticipated annual rankings lists released each preseason, the selected players are coming off of stellar 2021 campaigns, and will play important roles for their teams in 2022.

For the Aggies, Running back Devon Achane, Defensive back Antonio Johnson, and Offensive guard Layden Robinson were all placed in the Top 100, all bringing a combination of speed, strength, and freaky athleticism that will continually aid in helping guide Texas A&M towards their goals in 2022.

At #58, here is ESPN’s brief description of what Devon Achane gives the Aggies every game day:

One of the SEC’s most electric offensive performers should take on a bigger role in Texas A&M’s offense this fall. Achane led the SEC in yards per rush (7) last season, and had 910 yards and nine touchdowns on only 130 carries. He can also help in the pass game after a 24-catch season

At #65, Antonio Johnson is coming off of a 79 tackle, 53 solo tackle season, and will be depended upon to bring to be the best defender on the field each week. Here’s ESPN’s short summary:

Johnson started all 13 games for Texas A&M in 2021 as a sophomore. He was second on the Aggies’ defense with 79 tackles. He earned AP All-SEC second team recognition. Johnson is on the preseason watch list for the Thorpe Award.

At #76, Layden Robinson is one of the offensive leaders this season and the most senior member of a talented offensive line for the Aggies. Coming off of a 2021 season where he only allowed 4 pressures on 311 pass-block snaps, Robinson is destined for his best season yet. Here is ESPN’s take on the Junor starting right guard:

He earned second-team All-SEC honors last season and will lead an experienced group of interior linemen for the Aggies. Mel Kiper Jr. rates Robinson as the top draft-eligible guard for 2023. The 6-4, 330-pound junior started all 10 games he played last fall. He’s an elite run blocker who could help the Aggie offense take the next step.

As the preseason honors continue to pour in for all three players, we’re all looking forward to the season kicking off on September 3rd to finally watch them shine on the gridiron.

Three Aggies make Pro Football Network’s All-America Team

Three Aggies make Pro Football Network’s All-America Team

The honors continue to roll in for select members of the 2022 Texas A&M roster, as Pro Football Network has released their Preseason All-America Team, which includes three well-known Aggies throughout the 2nd and 3rd team selections.

  • Offensive lineman (Right guard) Layden Robinson was designated 2nd-Team, Offensive line. Going into his redshirt junior season, Robinson is one of the most feared run blockers in the country, while showing strength and balance in pass pro. Robinson is also one of the vocal leaders on an experienced offensive line that looks to become one of the predominant strengths on offense throughout the season.
  • Wide receiver/punt returner Ainias Smith was selected to the 3rd-Team, Special Teams as a punt returner. Smith is going into his senior season as the presumed leader on offense, joining Layden Robinson in that regard. Smith is coming off of a 2021 season where he recorded 47 receptions for 509 yards and 6 touchdowns, with a 10.8 yard per catch average. Whoever secures the quarterback spot will be looking Smith’s way during key moments on offense.
  • Defensive back Antonio Johnson was designated 3rd-Team, Defense at the safety position. Johnson is slowly approaching superstar status and is expecting to take an even bigger leap this season as one of the most dominant defenders in the country, slated to play at the nickel corner and safety position during the 2022 season. In 2021, Johnson’s impressive stat line consisted of 79 tackles, 53 solo tackles, 1 sack, 5 pass deflections, and 1 interception.

Offensive guard Layden Robinson selected to the Lombardi Award Watchlist

The preseason watchlists keep on coming for Big L

Texas A&M offensive lineman, starting right guard, and native of Manvel, Texas, Layden Robinson has been selected to the Rotary Lombardi Award Preseason Watchlist, which was announced on Monday afternoon by the Rotary Club of Houston. The award is annually presented to the most outstanding offensive or defensive lineman that best exemplifies the character and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame head coach Vince Lombardi. This is the third preseason watchlist selection for Robinson, along the Wuerffel Trophy and Outland Trophy watchlists.

Layden is entering his redshirt junior season with the Aggies as the presumed leader on the offensive line, playing alongside second-year starters in Center Bryce Foster, and Right Tackle Reuben Fatheree. Standing at 6-4, 330lbs, Robinson is a force to be reckoned with on the interior, displaying impressive strength, balance, and footwork in his blocks, while being noted as a bully in the run game, and will be leading the way this season in clearing space for star running back Devon Achane. After the 2021 season, he was named to the All-SEC Second Team by the Associated Press.

Off the field, he has excelled in the classroom and is designated to receive his bachelor’s degree in communications by December of this year.

Aggies OG Layden Robinson named to Wuerffel Trophy Watchlist

Layden Robinson: Mauler on the field, fantastic human being all around

Texas A&M’s star offensive guard Layden Robinson has been raking in the preseason nominations as of late, recently being named to the Outland Trophy Watch list earlier in the week, and just named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watchlist, as the award is ‘annually presented to the FBS player who best combines exemplary community service with leadership achievement on and off the field.”

Robinson has dedicated much of his time off the field participating in the local Boys & Girls club with other fellow student-athletes, teaching children a multitude of different sports and games, while creating football-based activities to teach the children the fundamentals of the game we all love. Robinson has also heavily participated as a volunteer at Twin City Missions in the Brazos County community, helping wipe down windows and walls, clean up trash, clean flower beds, mop floors, etc.

On the field, Robinson is going into the 2022 season as one of the top run blockers and overall offensive linemen in the country, looking to lead as the veteran member of a young but talented unit with its sights set on paving the way to a career year for junior starting running back, Devon Achane.

Congratulations to Layden on being nominated for one of the most meaningful awards there is, and we all can’t wait to watch him and the other maroon goons do their thing as soon as the opener on September 3rd.
