Raiders vs Ravens final injury report: G Richie Incognito OUT with calf injury

Raiders vs Ravens final injury report: G Richie Incognito OUT with calf injury

Jon Gruden has been hopeful left guard Richie Incognito would be ready to go for the Raiders’ season opener on Monday Night. He won’t be. The veteran guard has not practiced for three weeks and is now officially OUT for their game against the Ravens.

Replacing Incognito at left guard will be second-year man John Simpson who the team selected in the fourth round of the 2020 draft out of Clemson. Simpson will make his third career start.

Safety Roderic Teamer is doubtful for the game. He is primarily a special teams player which means his absence could explain why the team brought back Dallin Leavitt after waiving him last week. Leavitt will also be the backup at free safety behind rookie Tre’von Moehrig.

Along with several Ravens players who landed on injured reserve this week, they will also be without DE Derek Wolfe who is down with back and hip injuries. LB Daelin Hayes (knee) and CB Jimmy Smith (ankle) are Questionable.

Raiders vs Ravens Friday injury report: Ravens suffer string of serious injuries

Raiders vs Ravens Friday injury report: Ravens suffer string of serious injuries

Thursday’s injury report looked pretty standard for both the Raiders and Ravens. The most interesting note was guard Richie Incognito missing practice. Friday’s injury report was far more eventful. And in the wrong way for the Ravens.

Three players who were on Thursday’s injury report have no been placed on injured reserve — TE Nick Boyle, CB Marcus Peters, and RB Gus Edwards.

Peters and Edwards both suffered ACL tears which will have them out for the season. ACL tears have been a real problem for the Ravens. RB JK Dobbins also tore his ACL as did LB LJ Fort. While RB Justice Hill suffered an Achilles tear. Wide receiver Rashod Bateman suffered a groin injury that has him on IR as well.

Running back is the most affected by injuries with each of their top three backs going down in recent days. This had the team sign Latavius Murray to the active roster and Devonta Freeman to the practice squad with the intention of activating him for Monday Night’s game against the Raiders.

For the first four years of Latavius Murray’s career, he suited up for the Raiders. He was the team’s pick in the sixth round of the 2014 draft out of Central Florida and turned into quite a player.

Raiders fans may remember his breakout game against the Chiefs that helped the Raiders to get their first win in 2014 after an 0-10 start. Or his 1000-yard season in 2015 that earned him a trip to the Pro Bowl. Or his 12 touchdowns in 2016 to help the Raiders to their only playoff birth in the past 18 years.

Now, for the second time in two years, he will play against his former team in their home opener. Last season it was with the Saints, who released him two days ago after he refused to take a pay cut.

The man nicknamed Tay Train was figuring he would wait until after the season opener to join a team in need of a back, but his time came sooner than expected.

With the Ravens losing their second starting running back just prior to the start of the season, they were desperate. Second-round pick J.K. Dobbins was already lost for the season and Thursday his replacement Gus Edwards tore his ACL, causing him to be lost for the season as well.

And so Murray enters his eighth NFL season for his fourth NFL team. And his new team the Baltimore Ravens are set to face his once former team the Raiders on Monday Night Football to open this season. That is, of course, if he can pick up the offense fast enough to see the field.

Raiders, Ravens first injury report: LG Richie Incognito still not practicing

Raiders, Ravens first injury report: LG Richie Incognito still not practicing

You know the season has officially started when the first injury report comes out. That happened today as the Raiders took the field for the first day of the week’s preparation for the Ravens who they face in the opener on Monday Night Football.

The big-name missing from practice for the Raiders is starting guard, Richie Incognito. The veteran guard was injured during scrimmages with the Rams a couple of weeks ago, prior to their preseason game. Gruden said at that time that he was hopeful Incognito would be back by the opener. That remains the case.

“He’s getting better,” Gruden said of Incognito. “He did not practice today. We’ll see how he feels at the end of the week. We’re still hopeful that he’ll play. But he didn’t practice today.”

Also missing practice for the Raiders was safety Roderic Teamer.

The Ravens were without TE Nick Boyle and DE Derek Wolfe.

The big news, however, was the injuries to RB Gus Edwards and CB Marcus Peters who went down with what could be serious knee injuries. Edwards was stepping up for the injured JK Dobbins, which had the Ravens sign veteran free agent RB Devonta Freeman to the practice squad.
