Larry David bashes NFL overtime rules

Larry David does not like the way the NFL has its OT rules structured

The voice of reason has weighed in on NFL overtime. The great Larry David spoke his mind with Rich Eisen and says OT is ridiculous as currently structured.

“So ridiculous,” David said. “I win a coin toss and I score a touchdown and the other team, they’re done. No good. Why do they not have a chance? A coin toss is deciding the winner of a game. Nothing makes sense in this world.

“I need to be president, not just NFL commissioner … The coin toss is so idiotic. I mean, it’s not idotic, but give the other team a chance to come back. It’s not fair. It’s just not fair. Let’s do what’s fair.”

Of course, the overtime rules mushroomed after Sunday’s AFC Divisional Round game that saw the Kansas City Chiefs score a touchdown on the first drive after the Buffalo Bills lost the coin toss.

Larry David had a hilariously nonchalant reaction to bumping into Tom Brady at the Kentucky Derby

It’s exactly how you’d think this exchange would go.

Superstar celebrities, like Tom Brady and Larry David, run into each other at super powered events, like the Kentucky Derby. So it’s no surprise that David and Brady ended up packed into the same elevator during the Derby this year.

Even so, David managed to get through the interaction with an outrageous amount of nonchalance — even with Brady, probably literally, breathing down his neck. FOX Sports sportscaster Charissa Thompson was on the elevator with Brady and David. She recounted the exchange on her podcast with FOX Sports’ Erin Andrews. It sounds like David was wildly unfazed by Brady’s presence. When Brady greeted David, the TV star simply replied: “Tom, hey.” And that was it.

Just so casual! You should hear Thompson tell the story.

It’s somehow exactly how you’d think this exchange would go and also completely absurd.

Larry David’s PSA asking people to stay home is pretty, pretty, pretty good

Listen to Larry David, folks.

The 10th season of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm ended a few weeks ago, which stinks because it was a great season of watching Larry David doing Larry David things and right now we need all the entertainment and laughs that we can get.

Because things are pretty darn rough right now.

Thankfully the great Larry David is here to entertain us some more while also delivering an important message to people in California about staying at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

As you might have guessed, Larry is all for staying home and he has a message for those who feel or do differently:

Listen to Larry, folks.

Larry David’s GoFundMe page for Riviera caddies closing in on $150K goal

Larry David of Curb Your Enthusiasm and Seinfeld started a GoFundMe page for caddies at the iconic Riviera Country Club.

Larry David might not have time to stop and chat, but during a pandemic, he’s set aside some time to help the loopers at his home golf course.

The creator of Curb Your Enthusiasm and Seinfeld has teamed up with media mogul Lloyd Braun to start a GoFundMe page for caddies at the iconic Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, and the push appears to be on pace to meet its goal of $150,000.

As of late Sunday morning, donations tallied up to about 80 percent of that goal, with such heavyweights as Tom Brady among those on the list of donors.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a statewide shelter-in-place order on March 19, according to this story, directing all California residents to stay home to help combat further spread of the coronavirus.

Some states have allowed golf courses to stay open, but California has deemed them as non-essential, meaning caddies have lost their source of income.

Similar movements have started at other clubs and courses, including Lakeside Golf and Country Club in Burbank, California, and Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas.

Larry David blames Jets for killing his friend in new episode of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’

The Jets found themselves in the plot of an episode of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

Even in the offseason, the New York Jets still find ways to make headlines.

The Jets found themselves in the thick of the plot in Sunday’s episode of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” In the episode, Larry David’s friend, Carl, kills himself because of the aggravation that comes with being a Jets fan. David is a lifelong Jets ran in real life.

Carl’s demise was brought about by news that Le’Veon Bell was out with a season-ending injury. This did not actually happen, thought the episode referenced plenty of nonfictional Jets disasters.

“I can’t take any more disappointment,” Carl wrote in his suicide note.

David goes on to tell a couple of his friends about Carl killing himself over the Jets, but he did attribute some of the blame to another New York franchise as well.

“The Jets killed Carl — and a little bit of the Knicks,” David said.

David then brings up Sam Darnold’s mononucleosis in a conversation later on with a friend.

“Last year started with such promise. Then Darnold gets mono, season’s over by Game 3,” David said.

Toward the end of the episode, David is sitting with Carl’s widow, Veronica, and explains why he thinks Carl killed himself.”The [expletive] Jets,” Veronica responded.

“He loved them so much,” she continued. “The Jets ruined our marriage. I couldn’t stand to be around him.”

The two then fought over the Austin Seferian-Jenkins fumble that cost the Jets an opportunity to beat the Patriots in 2017.

David is an avid Jets fan, but, like Carl, has been frustrated with the organization for years. So, he made them the subject of his show and got a few hilarious jabs in. Maybe that’s just David’s way of coping with all the pain Gang Green has brought him.

Larry David told ex-Jets GM Mike Maccagnan to draft Lamar Jackson

Larry David told former Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan to draft Lamar Jackson instead of Sam Darnold in 2018.

The Jets drafted Sam Darnold with the third overall pick in 2018, but Larry David thought there was a better option on the board.

David was on “The Michael Kay Show” on ESPN Radio Tuesday and said he called former general manager Mike Maccagnan ahead of the 2018 draft. He had a suggestion to make, and that was to draft Lamar Jackson. David, of course, is known for “Seinfeld” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” fame and not for his draft expertise, and so Maccagnan ignored his advice.

“He laughed at me, but who can blame him?” David said. “Nobody thought Jackson was gonna be good.”

It turns out that David knew what he was talking about. Jackson is the odds on favorite to win the MVP award in his second season, led the Ravens to a 14-2 record and led the league in total touchdowns.

At the same time, it’s hard to blame Maccagnan for passing on Jackson. Almost every other team overlooked him until the Ravens picked him 32nd overall. There were even people around the league that were trying to turn him into a wide receiver.

David has a history of calling Jets general managers ahead of the draft. In 2006, he called Mike Tannenbaum and told him the Jets should draft Reggie Bush with the fourth overall pick. Bush ended up going second overall to the Saints, while the Jets selected D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold.

The comedian has yet to reach out to current GM Joe Douglas, but maybe he should this year because his player recommendations have been spot on.

Larry David urged ex-Jets GM to draft Lamar Jackson and was laughed at

Larry David tried to get Mike Maccagnan to draft current MVP favorite Lamar Jackson in 2018.

The New York Jets landed a franchise quarterback in Sam Darnold with the third pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, but if comedy legend Larry David had his way, the Jets would have selected runaway MVP favorite Lamar Jackson in 2018. Jackson, the 2016 Heisman Trophy winner, fell to No. 32 and was the last pick in the first round by the Baltimore Ravens, but he wasn’t generally regarded as a top QB prospect in a loaded class led by Baker Mayfield, Darnold, Josh Allen and Josh Rosen.

In an appearance on The Michael Kay Show, David said that he called Jets GM Mike Maccagnan prior to the 2018 NFL Draft and told him to select Jackson. According to David, Maccagnan laughed at him.

Larry David: “I did call [then Jets GM] Mike Maccagnan before the 2018 draft, and I recommended that he draft Lamar Jackson. I have a witness.”

Michael Kay: “Really! And what did he say to you when you said that?”

Larry David: “He kind of gave me the most condescending….. I told him that and he kind of laughed. He laughed at me, but who can blame him? Nobody thought Jackson was going to be this good.”

Maccagnan, of course, went on to lose his job a few weeks after the 2019 NFL Draft.

David also shared his very unique thoughts on current Jets coach Adam Gase.

“I can’t take the hat. I can’t take a coach wearing a hat constantly. It tells me that there’s something about him, he’s not comfortable with himself! When I started doing stand-up I wasn’t comfortable, and I started putting a hat on, because it gave me like a different persona, a different character, because I was hiding. That’s what he’s doing. He’s hiding. Either he’s hiding baldness or there’s something about his personality that he’s uncomfortable with.”

WATCH: Larry David says he told ex-Jets GM to draft Lamar Jackson in 2018

Larry David said on a radio show he told an ex-Jets GM to choose Lamar Jackson before the 2018 NFL Draft.

Larry David paid a visit to The Michael Kay Show on ESPN New York radio Tuesday. The genius behind “Seinfeld” and “Curb Your Enthusiam” also has some innate NFL scouting ability. it seems

In the video below, David tells stories of how he called a couple of former Jets GMs, Mike Tannenbaum and Mike McCaggnan with suggestions.

A clip is played from an ESPN radio show earlier in the day where Tannenbaum says long ago he received a call from David, who told him to select Reggie Bush in 2006.

David also takes a swipe at Bill Polian for wanting to make Lamar Jackson a wide receiver. He adds later in the segment with Kay that he called McCaggnan and told him to draft the Heisman winner out of Louisville in 2018. And he says “I have a witness.”

The boast about Jackson starts at the 3:25 mark:

In 2016, David told Charissa Thompson, filling in for Dan Patrick, that he could be the Jets’ offensive coordinator.
