Los Angeles Lakers at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Los Angeles Lakers at Minnesota Timberwolves odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Lakers (38-38) and Minnesota Timberwolves (39-38) meet Friday at Target Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (NBA TV). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Lakers vs. Timberwolves odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Lakers covered the spread as 3.5-point favorites Wednesday with a 121-110 win at the Chicago Bulls. F LeBron James scored 25 points for the Lakers, who have won 4 of their last 5 games and are 9th in the Western Conference.

The Timberwolves failed to cover as 6-point underdogs Wednesday in a 107-100 loss at the Phoenix Suns. G Anthony Edwards had a game-high 31 points as Minnesota’s 4-game win streak ended. The Timberwolves are a half-game ahead of the Lakers for the 8th seed in the West.

The Timberwolves lead this season’s series 2-0 straight up and against the spread, with the Under hitting in both meetings. Minnesota covered as a 1.5-point road favorite 110-102 as the Under (227) cashed in the most recent meeting March 3.

Lakers at Timberwolves picks and predictions

Prediction

Lakers 119, Timberwolves 110

Moneyline

BET LAKERS (-110).

Los Angeles has won 4 of its last 5 games with the lone loss being due to James returning to the lineup and momentarily upsetting team chemistry. Minnesota’s 4-game win streak ended Wednesday, but each of those wins was by 6 or fewer points and could have gone either way. The Timberwolves should struggle to beat the Lakers 3 times in 1 season, especially since Los Angeles has been the better team lately.

Against the spread

PASS.

Los Angeles +1.5 (-122) should hit, but there is no need to pay the higher price on the spread when the Lakers should win straight up. Bet the moneyline and/or total instead.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 232.5 (-108).

The Under is 4-1 in Los Angeles’ last 5 games and 5-0 in its last 5 vs. teams with a winning record.

The Under has hit in 6 of Minnesota’s last 8 games and is 9-3-1 in its last 13 at home. These teams tend to play low-scoring games vs. each other, with the Under hitting in each of the last 6 meetings, and Friday’s matchup should stay Under the total once again.

Los Angeles Lakers at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks & predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Los Angeles Lakers at Minnesota Timberwolves odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The struggling Los Angeles Lakers (0-4) visit the surprisingly mediocre Minnesota Timberwolves (3-2) Friday. Tipoff from Target Center is set for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Lakers vs. Timberwolves odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Lakers have started the season looking terrible in most aspects of the game. F LeBron James and F Anthony Davis have looked decent, but neither has played great.

Los Angeles failed to cover as a 5-point underdog in its 110-99 loss Wednesday at the Denver Nuggets. What was a tie game at halftime turned into a double-digit loss as the Lakers couldn’t shoot from beyond the arc (yet again), LeBron looked terrible on the offensive end and Davis looked terrible on the defensive end.

The Timberwolves were speculated to be a top-6 playoff seed during the offseason, but instead, find themselves looking to avoid being .500 six games into the season. Their stars have not looked terrible, but many aren’t performing to the level that many would expect.

All-star caliber F Anthony Edwards is their leading scorer, averaging 22.8 points per game on just 46.3% shooting from the field. Newly-acquired C Rudy Gobert is doing his job as a rebounder and shot-blocker, but Minnesota will look for him to continue to progress on the offensive end.

Lakers at Timberwolves picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 101, Lakers 90

Moneyline

AVOID.

Neither of these teams has looked good this year, especially the Lakers. Betting the moneyline on this game in the favor of either team is far too risky for me to advise you to risk your money.

Against the spread

LEAN TIMBERWOLVES +6.5 (-110).

The Timberwolves are simply too talented to lose this game to the 0-4 Lakers. With talent in both their frontcourt and backcourt, they should possess enough offensive talent to cover the spread in this game.

I don’t believe the Lakers possess enough defense to hold the Timberwolves and make this one a close game.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 230.5 (-112).

This is your BEST BET for this game. The Lakers have looked like the worst team in the NBA to this point of the season. They have been the worst shooting team in the league, with mediocre defense, terrible transition defense, and bad rebounding. I don’t see Los Angeles being able to put up enough points in this game, given the lack of shooting acumen it’s shown and the interior defense that Minnesota has shown.

Los Angeles Lakers at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Los Angeles Lakers at Minnesota Timberwolves and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Lakers (29-39) head to the Target Center Wednesday for an 8 p.m. ET tip-off with the Minnesota Timberwolves (40-30). Below, we look at the Lakers vs. Timberwolves odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

L.A. has lost 3 of 4 games including two straight blowout losses at the Phoenix Suns Sunday (140-111) and at home Monday to the Toronto Raptors  (114-103). The Lakers’ only two wins since the All-Star game were games LeBron James scored 50 and 56 points in.

Minnesota has won eight of its last nine games — 8-1 against the spread (ATS) — which includes a 149-139 road win at the San Antonio Spurs. T-Wolves big Karl-Anthony Towns scored a franchise-record 60 points on 61.3% shooting (7-for-11 from 3) with 17 rebounds versus the Spurs.

The T-Wolves are 2-1 straight up (SU) and 3-0 ATS versus the Lakers this season but L.A. won the previous meeting 108-103 Jan. 2.

Lakers at Timberwolves odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 126, Lakers 108

Money line

PASS even though Minnesota should crush L.A. because the Timberwolves (-475) is an absolute no-go. For what it’s worth, the Lakers are 3-16 SU as road underdogs and the T-Wolves are 17-5 SU as home favorites.

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

Lean to Minnesota’s full-game spread only because the TIMBERWOLVES -5.5 FIRST-HALF SPREAD (-112) is my favorite wager in this contest.

Minnesota is the second-most profitable first-half team in the NBA and L.A. is the second-least profitable, according to EVAnalytics.com.

Furthermore, the Lakers have a minus-16.0 first-half scoring margin over the past three games, which is the NBA’s worst. L.A. has effectively not shown up for the past few games.

In fact, the Lakers got beat much worse by the Raptors than the 114-103 final score indicates. L.A. was down 26-4 to start that game before Toronto took its foot off the gas. LeBron even scored 30 points and it didn’t matter.

This Lakers-Timberwolves should play out similarly because Minnesota shares a lot of traits with Toronto. Both teams crash the glass and pressure ball-handlers, which is terrible for the Lakers since they cannot rebound and throw a ton of turnovers.

Also, the T-Wolves should be a peak motivation and the only time we get a full Lakers effort is in primetime games. Minnesota is 7th seed in the West and only 1.5 games behind the Denver Nuggets for the sixth and final non-play-in seed.

A bet on Minnesota’s full-game spread but the TIMBERWOLVES -5.5 FIRST-HALF SPREAD (-112) is my favorite play.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 241.5 (-107) because I’m not confident in L.A.’s ability to score, the assigned officiating crew has a combined 69-93 O/U record and both teams have a below-average offensive FT/FGA rate.

However, I cannot fully commit to the Under because both teams like to get out in transition and L.A.’s defense is even more suspect than its offense.

Los Angeles Lakers at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Los Angeles Lakers at Minnesota Timberwolves odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Lakers (16-13) travel to the Target Center Friday to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves (13-15). Tip-off is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Lakers vs. Timberwolves odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Unfortunately, several key players will miss this one because of the league’s COVID-19 protocols. The Lakers will be without PG Russell Westbrook, SG Talen Horton-Tucker, PG Avery Bradley and C Dwight Howard. SG Malik Monk is also listed on the NBA injury report as “out” even though he was cleared Thursday after entering protocols Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Minnesota’s second leading scorer SF Anthony Edwards (22.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game) entered protocols Friday morning.

The Lakers are riding a three-game winning streak and have won 4 of their last 5. They have been the second-least profitable team with an against-the-spread record of just 11-18, which is only better than the Trail Blazers (10-19).

As for the Timberwolves, they snapped a five-game losing streak Sunday with a 116-111 road win at the Blazers. They then took down the Nuggets by 17 (124-107) Wednesday. They’re 13-15 ATS and 2-4 as home underdogs.

Lakers at Timberwolves odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 114, Lakers 108

Money line

PASS. While I like the Wolves at home against a short-handed Lakers team, the value is in the points.

Against the spread

BET TIMBERWOLVES +1.5 (-122) as the Lakers are just short too many key players.

The Wolves and Lakers, aside from the injuries, are as even as they come, both having an offensive and defensive rating in the 107s. Both teams also rank in the bottom half in turnover rate.

Given their negative net rating, the Lakers are a little worse than their record indicates, the opposite for the Wolves. Betting on Minnesota is the right play.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the OVER 220.5 (-108) as the Wolves should be looking to get out and run. Also, the Lakers have been heating up on their win streak, dropping 110 or more points in 5 of their last 8 games.

The Lakers and Wolves respectively rank 6th and 12th in points per game. Both have a relatively rocky defense as well which should help for more points to be scored.

The Lakers are just 1 of 9 teams in which it has been profitable to consistently take their Over. With that in mind, I’d prefer it here.

Lakers at Timberwolves: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lakers 117, Timberwolves 111

Money line (ML)

The Lakers were tripped up by the Denver Nuggets on Valentine’s Day after winning seven straight games. On that same night, the Timberwolves knocked off the Toronto Raptors for their first win in five games.

Los Angeles will get back on track against a struggling Minnesota team with a win Tuesday night. Even without Davis, the Lakers will be too much for the T-Wolves, who are just 25th in the NBA in scoring (108.2 points per game). Take the LAKERS (-280) to win outright.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Even though the Timberwolves are just 7-20 this season, they’ve been good against the spread. They’re 14-12-1 ATS, including a current 7-1-1 stretch. The Lakers, on the other hand, have struggled to cover the spread lately, going just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 and 1-4 in their last five – albeit, mostly as big favorites.

I like the TIMBERWOLVES +6.5 (-105) to keep this one within 6 points.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Over has been the stronger bet for both the Lakers and Timberwolves of late. The total has gone Over in each of the Lakers’ last five games and in four of the last five games for the T-Wolves.

Davis’ absence hurts the Lakers defense a bit and opens things up for the T-Wolves inside. I like the OVER 223.5 (-110).
