Lakers at Magic picks and predictions

Prediction

Lakers 115, Magic 114

Moneyline

Sprinkle on LAKERS (+140).

The Lakers need to bounce back after an embarrassing performance on Christmas Day. While the Magic are one of the hottest teams in the league, the Lakers still have a better roster and should come extra focused after a devastating collapse on national television.

Against the spread

BET LAKERS +3.5 (-115).

The market is overreacting to the Magic covering in 10 straight games. Orlando is 0-4 straight up vs. the Lakers in their last 4 head-to-head meetings. The last time Orlando beat Los Angeles by 4 or more points was in a 108-104 win Nov. 25, 2018. The Lakers have gone through a rough stretch lately but should not be 3.5-point underdogs in this spot. Take the points.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 235.5 (-108).

The Lakers gave up 51 points in the 3rd quarter Sunday, the most points allowed in a quarter by any team this season. Los Angeles was playing great defense in the 1st half, allowing just 43 points. The Lakers should bounce back defensively and help the total stay Under such a high number. The Under is 23-8 in the last 31 head-to-head meetings and should hit Tuesday.

Orlando Magic at Los Angeles Lakers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Orlando Magic at Los Angeles Lakers NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Orlando Magic (15-30) are on the road to face the Los Angeles Lakers (29-17) Sunday night. Tipoff is at 10:10 p.m. ET at the Staples Center. Below, we analyze the Magic-Lakers odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

The Magic are kicking off a five-game road trip after having unloaded several players at the trade deadline. They dealt Evan Fournier, Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vucevic. They gained Wendell Carter, Gary Harris, Otto Porter and R.J. Hampton, as well as a few draft assets and trade exceptions in the deals. They have won only two of their last 14 games.

The Lakers snapped a four-game losing streak Friday with a 100-86 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. They continue to be without their two best players in LeBron James and Anthony Davis, who are both out injured. L.A. has two games left in their homestand before they hit the road for seven straight.

Magic at Lakers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lakers 105, Magic 96

Money line (ML)

Orlando sports one of the league’s worst records on the road at 5-15. No team has fewer wins away from home. They have lost six straight road contests. The Lakers, despite the recent losing streak, have only lost one of their last eight games when favored. So the best bet, albeit a chalk play, for this game is to take the LAKERS -250.

Against the spread (ATS)

Orlando is used to playing as the underdog. This is their 14th straight game not being favored. They are 22-22-1 ATS overall on the season and 16-17-1 ATS as dogs. They have gone 5-2 ATS over their last seven games. However, the Lakers have not had had a win in which they did not cover the spread since February 10. They are 21-24 ATS overall, but their ATS losses are usually actual losses. I expect the Lakers to win, so I expect their covering trend to also continue. Take the LAKERS -6.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

No team has gone Over the total less than the Lakers this season. Their Over percentage is 34.8%. Five of their last six games have gone Under. They have scored over 101 only once in their last five games. The Magic have the second-lowest scoring offense in the league at 104.6 points a game. They are 3-5 O/U in their last eight games. Take UNDER 208.5 POINTS (-110).
