Erika Connolly qualifies for 2024 Olympics

Former Lady Vol swimmer to represent the United States in the 2024 Olympics.

Former Lady Vols’ swimmer Erika Connolly will compete for the United States’ Olympic swim team.

Connolly qualified for the 2024 Olympic games in Paris, France during Olympic Team Swimming Trials, contested at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

She will compete in the women’s 400-meter freestyle relay team.

Connolly recorded a rime of 53.86 seconds and finished tied for sixth with Tennessee Pro Group member Catie Deloof. The two competed in a swim-off, with Connolly recording a time of  53.76, her fastest mark of the trials, winning the event by .04 seconds.

Connolly is one of six athletes on the 400-meter freestyle relay team. She will also compete on the United States’ 100-meter freestyle finals by winning a swim-off against Anna Moesch and posting a time of 53.92.

She will make her second appearance in the Olympics after winning two medals in 2020.

Connolly is the 13th Tennessee athlete who will compete in Paris.

Auburn defeats No. 26 Lady Vols

Auburn women’s tennis defeats No. 26 Lady Vols.

No. 26 Tennessee lost its Southeastern Conference road dual match, 6-1, at No. 13 Auburn Friday.

The Lady Vols (12-8, 6-6 SEC) managed one victory against the Tigers (19-4, 10-2 SEC) and forced three singles matches to three sets.

Auburn claimed the doubles point by sweeping the two completed matches.

At No. 1 doubles, the Tigers’ tandem of Selin Ovunc and Ariana Arseneault, the No. 16 team in the country, defeated No. 17 Daria Kuczer and Tenika McGriffin, 6-1.

At No. 3 doubles, Auburn’s duo of Carolyn Ansari and Madeline Meredith defeated Kylie Duckworth, 6-2.

In singles, Tennessee prevailed at No. 5 as Esther Adeshina defeated Adeline Flach, 6-2, 6-2.

The Lady Vols suffered three-set losses at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles as Rebeka Merten, McGriffin and Elza Tomase all fell after winning a set.

A pair of Lady Vols set indoor track and field program records Saturday at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee.

In the shot put, Latavia Maines posted a mark of 18.00 meters (59 feet, 0.75 inches) on her sixth and final throw of the day.

Maines set her own record of 17.81 meters (58-5.25) in 2021.

Her effort Saturday is the best in the SEC this season and it was recorded two weeks before the conference championships.

In the 3,000-meter run, UT’s Kayla Ghalor broke a freshman program record in the event, finishing Saturday’s race in 9 minutes, 34.61 seconds.

The previous Lady Vols’ record was held by Brittany Sheffey, who posted a time of 9:38.76 in 2008.
