The top five teams following Wednesday’s final round will advance to the national championships. The national championships will be played May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Lady Vols golf takes second in Athens

ATHENS — The University of Tennessee women’s golf team closed out the fall portion of its schedule with a second-place finish at the Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic, a tournament hosted by the University of Georgia.

The Lady Vols, who shot a team total of 1-over 865, finished one shot behind Auburn.

The host Bulldogs had two team entries in the tournament. Georgia’s “A” Team took third (872), followed by Vanderbilt (876); Alabama (880); Mississippi State (881); Texas A&M (882); Kentucky (885); Arkansas (885); LSU (886); Missouri (896) and Georgia “B” (904).

Mikayla Bardwell claimed a share of the individual title with a 3-under 213.

Tennessee’s Michaela Williams finished with a total score 215 and tied for fourth. Nicole Whitson tied for 13th (219). Vanessa Gilley finished tied for 26th with a 223 and Shelby Liford finished tied for 45th with a score of 227.
