No, Kyler Murray did not name his dog after D.J. Humphries

Murray’s dog’s name is Swoosh.

While on a video call with media members this week, Arizona Cardinals left tackle D.J. Humphries said quarterback Kyler Murray named his dog after him. “He really cares about me,” he said.

This apparently was not the truth.

Murray met with the media Wednesday in a video conference and cleared it up.

“No, no, no, no,” Murray said while laughing. “My dog’s name is Swoosh.”

Murray explained that Humphries definitely tried to get the dog named after him.

“He definitely gave me some recommendations, but I didn’t take those at all,” he said. “I don’t know why he came on here and told you all I was naming my dog after him.”

So it appears that Hump Jr., Lil D.J. and Senfo (short for 74, his jersey number) were just things Humphries wanted Murray to use.

Murray might care a lot about Humphries, but not that much.

Kyler Murray to make ‘monster leap’ in 2020, says Kenyan Drake

“I’m definitely looking forward to him taking that monster leap in Year 2 to show the rest of the league that he’s here to stay.”

Arizona Cardinals running back Kenyan Drake only spent the second half of the 2019 season with the team, acquired in a trade before the deadline. He didn’t see all of quarterback Kyler Murray’s rookie season. However, he was impressed with the progress he saw.

“Just getting to see the later part of the season, watching film from earlier games, you could just see the maturation and his ability to continue to conform and transform into the quarterback that this team needs him to be,” Drake told Jim Rome in an interview.

He also saw him progress in the second half of the season.

“Week in and week out from the point I was on the team, it was surreal to see how mature he already was but how much as he was learning on the fly, game in and game out,” he said.

Murray was good enough to be the league’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, setting franchise rookie records and even some franchise records without rookie designations.

The Cardinals are counting on his further development. Drake expects him to be great.

“I’m definitely looking forward to him taking that monster leap in Year 2 to show the rest of the league that he’s here to stay.”

We have seen other quarterbacks like Carson Wentz, Mitch Trubisky, Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. Murray having a big 2020 would only continue that trend.
