The Houston Texans have activated the 21-day window to bring running back David Johnson back from injured reserve.

The Houston Texans could be getting some reinforcements at running back.

The club announced Wednesday they have activated the 21-day window for running back David Johnson to return from injured reserve. The former 2016 All-Pro was placed on injured reserve after during Week 10 with a concussion.

Houston also activated linebacker Kyle Emanuel from injured reserve, starting the 21-day window. Emanuel played in two games for the Texans in Weeks 6-7, playing a total of 35 special teams snaps.

The Texans also signed defensive tackle Corey Liuget from the practice squad to the active roster. Rookie defensive tackle Ross Blacklock did not practice Wednesday due to an illness.

Houston also added receiver J’Von Moore and cornerback Manny Patterson to the practice squad. The two free agents worked out for the Texans last week.

Texans place OLB Brennan Scarlett on injured reserve among other roster moves

The Houston Texans placed outside linebacker Brennan Scarlett on injured reserve along with other roster transactions.

The Houston Texans placed outside linebacker Brennan Scarlett on injured reserve Monday after he broke his arm in the 27-25 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9 at TIAA Bank Field.

The fifth-year pro’s season ended with 25 tackles and a quarterback hit through eight games, four of which he started.

“Any time you’ve got a fractured arm, it’s difficult when you’re playing a physical position like he plays,” interim coach Romeo Crennel said Monday.

Joining Scarlett on injured reserve was inside linebacker Kyle Emanuel. The former San Diego Chargers 2015 fifth-round pick played one game for Houston, the 35-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers before the bye week. Emanuel recorded two tackles for the Texans.

The Texans claimed defensive end Nate Orchard off waivers and placed him on the exempt/commissioner permission list. Orchard was recently with Washington, where he played since the 2019 season, collecting 16 tackles, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, 1.0 sack, a fumble recovery, and a pass breakup in his eight games with the club.

Houston also placed outside linebacker Davin Bellamy on the practice squad/injured list. Bellamy has been with the Texans off and on since 2018 when he was signed as an undrafted free agent. In January 2020, Houston signed Bellamy after a season on the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad.

CB Bradley Roby was declared inactive as he did not make the trip with the team. Although he was on the injury report with a knee injury, it was not injury related as to his deactivation Sunday. According to reports, the team did not bring Roby to Jacksonville for disciplinary reasons.

For the Jaguars, their inactives included QB Gardner Minshew (right thumb), RB Devine Ozigbo, RB Josiah Scott, DB Luq Barcoo, DB Dakota Allen, LB Aaron Lynch, and DL Caraun Reid.

What are the Texans getting with ILB Kyle Emanuel?

The Houston Texans signed veteran linebacker Kyle Emanuel. What will he bring to the team?

The Houston Texans signed inside linebacekr Kyle Emanuel on Tuesday, giving them another body in the middle of their front seven after Pro Bowler Benardrick McKinney was placed on injured reserve pending shoulder surgery.

The San Diego Chargers drafted Emanuel with their fifth-round selection in 2015. The former North Dakota State product spent the next four seasons with the AFC West club, collected 147 combined tackles, 4.0 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 10 quarterback hits, five pass breakups, two interceptions, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 63 games, 32 of which he started.

Emanuel retired after the 2018 season. Although there wasn’t a specific reason given, in his statement released on Twitter, there was a reference to the attrition from injuries.

When Emanuel came out of retirement in August of 2020, the Las Vegas Raiders signed him, and he spent time on the practice squad. The Raiders activated Emanuel ahead of their Week 3 game with the New England Patriots, and he played 14 special teams snaps. However, Las Vegas allowed Emanuel to revert back to the practice squad.

McKinney was out against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5. During the 30-14 victory, inside linebacker Tyrell Adams played 67 snaps on defense compared to one on special teams. Inside linebacker Nate Hall, who was promoted from the practice squad for the game, played 13 special teams snaps and one defensive snap. Inside linebacker Dylan Cole did not play any defensive snaps, instead playing 12 snaps on special teams.

The Texans may be adding Emanuel to allow Adams to play more defensive snaps and not have to worry about special teams any longer as defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver looks for solutions at inside linebacker opposite of Zach Cunningham.

Report: Ex-Chargers LB Kyle Emanuel coming out of retirement

The former Los Angeles Chargers linebacker is making his comeback.

After spending four seasons in the NFL, former Chargers linebacker Kyle Emanuel announced an unexpected retirement last April.

However, after a year has gone by, Emanuel has made the decision to return to the gridiron, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Emanuel resorted to injuries for being the reason he called it quits, and that his long-term health was important to him. But after having a full year to restore his body, the 28-year old is ready to pick up where he left off.

In four seasons with the Chargers, Emanuel amassed 133 tackles (83 solo), 11 tackles for loss, five passes defensed, four sacks and two sacks.

Before announcing his retirement, the Raiders and Lions had interest in signing the former North Dakota State product. Now a free agent, Emanuel can sign with another team immediately.
