How much is Kirby Smart’s buyout at Georgia?

Kirby Smart’s buyout, salary tower over the rest of college football

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart has the largest buyout of any coach in college football at $118.1 million. Smart’s buyout is over $48 million more than the next largest buyout (public schools only), which is the Alabama Crimson Tide‘s Kalen DeBoer.

Smart, who is also college football’s highest paid coach at $13.0 million, has been the head coach of Georgia since 2016. Smart and Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney are the only active coaches with national championship wins during the College Football Playoff era.

Smart played football as a defensive back at Georgia from 1995-1998. He served as an assistant coach under Nick Saban at Alabama from 2007-2015 before becoming the head coach at Georgia.

Smart has won a pair of national championships and SEC championships during his time at Georgia. This offseason, Smart signed a massive contract extension with Georgia through the 2030 college football season.

Another pair of notable buyouts that may interest Georgia fans are Florida head coach Billy Napier, who would be owed a $26.7 million buyout. Additionally, Auburn would owe Hugh Freeze a $20.3 million buyout.
