Kindyll Wetta stepping into bigger role for CU women’s basketball

Senior Kindyll Wetta is stepping into a bigger leadership role this season

It seems like just yesterday that Kindyll Wetta was a freshman on the CU women’s basketball team, but the Colorado native is now heading into her senior season with the Buffs.

Wetta, a 5-foot-9 point guard from Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, is known for her incredible on-ball defense and has been a strong first option off the bench. But with Jaylyn Sherrod and others now gone, Wetta is in line for a starting spot in the Buffs’ backcourt and a greater leadership role.

Last week, I asked Wetta about stepping into a bigger role for head coach JR Payne’s squad.

I’m excited,” Wetta said. “This isn’t anything that I’m not used to. I’ve filled a different role for the past three years, and it’s been great. I’ve loved my time, but I’m ready to step into a bigger role for this team.

Wetta also opened up on transitioning from a bench player into a likely senior starter.

“Honestly, I’ve loved coming off the bench in the past,” Wetta said. “It’s fun to go into the game and be that spark of energy for the team. Although bittersweet, I’m excited to be able to start my senior year and represent Colorado.”

CU Buffs women’s basketball 2022-23 season in review

We were treated to a magical 2022-23 CU women’s basketball season

The 2022-23 season was a magical one for the Colorado Buffaloes women’s basketball team. JR Payne’s squad well exceeded preseason predictions and danced all the way to the Sweet 16.

Colorado seems primed to build upon this success as its core remains intact, and another wave of talent is set to join the team next season. But fans would do well to take a few minutes and relish in the memories that were made this past season. It had been 20 years since Colorado pushed that far into the postseason and the Buffs accomplished this by defying the odds all season.
