In a 5-round light heavyweight championship bout in the co-main event, Alex Pereira and Khalil Rountree Jr. meet Saturday at UFC 307 at Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s UFC odds around the UFC 307: Pereira vs. Rountree Jr. odds, and make our expert picks and predictions.

The early prelims begin at 6:30 p.m. ET, and can be viewed on ESPN+. The prelims begin at 8 p.m. ET on ESPNews/ESPN+, and the main card begins at 10 p.m. ET on Pay-Per-View.

Records: Pereira (11-2-0) | Rountree Jr. (14-5-0)

The light heavyweight champion Pereira secured the strap at UFC 303 with his 2nd straight title defense last time out at UFC 303 against Jiri Prochazka. He originally plucked the belt from Prochazka at UFC 295, defended it at UFC 300 against Jamahal Hill, and then won the rematch with the Czechia-born fighter last time out.

Each of his past 3 victories have been via KO/TKO, with both wins over Prochazka coming in Round 2. He has had just one fight go the distance, a split-decision win over Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291, in the past 7 outings.

Rountree has won 5 straight fights to position himself for this title shot. He has picked up 4 victories via KO/TKO, with a split-decision win over Dustin Jacoby as the only exception during the span.

The champ takes the walk holding a 2 1/2-inch advantage over Rountree, while holding a 5.23-to-3.84 significant strikes landed per minute advantage over the southpaw. Pereira is super accurate with a 69.96% significant strikes accuracy percentage, and he has a slight 0.35-to-0.13 submission average lead.

UFC 307: Pereira vs. Rountree Jr. picks and predictions

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

Pereira (-450) is a stud, and a punching machine, who is fully expected to get the job done and keep his strap. However, betting his straight up will cost you 4 1/2 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk for not nearly enough reward.

Even as part of a multi-leg parlay, including Pereira sucks all of your value out of your ticket.

Instead, let’s get more specific. It’s hard to ignore the fact Pereira has 6 KO/TKOs in the past 7 bouts since UFC 276 when he dropped Sean Strickland in Round 1. However, even taking Pereira via KO/TKO or DQ on the 7-way line forces you to risk 4 times your potential return, and that’s too much.

Let’s go to round betting, taking PEREIRA IN ROUND 2 (+400) and PEREIRA IN ROUND 3 (+550) in a 2-round block. Yes, if he gets the win in Rounds 2 or 3, you’d lose one end, but you’d still be well ahead, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

No (-1200): Will the fight go the distance? is way too costly. It should go without saying that betting such a big number is not a good long-term betting strategy.

As far as total rounds, OVER 1.5 ROUNDS (-125) is worth a roll of the dice. We just need Pereira to win in the 2nd half of Round 2 or in Round 3 to make the round block betting above make sense, too.

Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree title fight headlines UFC 307 in Salt Lake City

The UFC’s return to Utah this fall has a main event – and it’s not one that was on many people’s radars.

The UFC’s return to Utah this fall has a main event – and it’s not one that was on many people’s radars.

Light heavyweight champion [autotag]Alex Pereira[/autotag] (11-2 MMA, 8-1 UFC) will put his title on the line against [autotag]Khalil Rountree[/autotag] (13-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) in the UFC 307 headliner in Salt Lake City on Oct. 5. UFC officials announced the matchup Friday.

Already in 2024, Pereira has title defenses in the UFC 300 main event against ex-champ Jamahal Hill and in the UFC 303 main event against ex-champ Jiri Prochazka. A win for Pereira would give him four light heavyweight title wins in about 11 months. Few, if any, UFC champions average more than two title fights a year.

Many wondered who would be a viable next opponent for Pereira after Magomed Ankalaev (19-1-1 MMA, 10-1-1 UFC) was matched up with Aleksandar Rakic (14-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC) at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi. And considering Pereira fought in April, then again in late June, the timing is perhaps an indication Pereira intends to keep right on trucking through the UFC’s history books.

Pereira won the UFC’s middleweight title against kickboxing rival Israel Adesanya in late 2022, but lost the belt to him in a rematch. He then moved to light heavyweight and needed just two fights to become champion. His two defenses came in short order, too.

Fair or not, Rountree’s name wasn’t atop most potential title challenger lists. But the 34-year-old veteran of Season 23 of “The Ultimate Fighter” has a five-fight winning streak with four stoppages, including a third-round finish of former title challenger Anthony Smith this past December. He has three post-fight bonuses in that stretch, as well.

But earlier this year, he was supposed to fight former champ Jamahal Hill at UFC 303, but was forced out when he tested positive for banned substances, including androsterone, a banned steroid. He was suspended for two months.

Pereira, who has been just a slight favorite or underdog in all his UFC fights, is likely to experience a big bump in early support when the oddsmakers go to work, given his recent resume.

UFC 307 also added a co-main event women’s bantamweight title fight between champion Raquel Pennington and former champ Julianna Peña.

UFC on ESPN 51: Khalil Rountree Jr. vs. Chris Daukaus odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 51 odds and lines between Khalil Rountree Jr. vs. Chris Daukaus with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a light heavyweight bout on the main card, Khalil Rountree Jr. and Chris Daukaus meet Saturday at UFC on ESPN 51 at UFX APEX in Las Vegas. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the UFC on ESPN 51: Rountree Jr. vs. Daukaus odds, and make our expert picks and predictions.

The prelims are on ESPN/ESPN+ at 4 p.m. ET and the main card is on ESPN/ESPN+ at 7 p.m. ET.

Watch this card with ESPN+ by signing up here.

Records: Rountree Jr. (12-5-0) | Daukaus (12-6-0)

Rountree Jr. takes the walk with a 3-fight win streak in tow. He picked up a split-decision win over Dustin Jacoby last time out in late October on the heels of a pair of 2nd-round KO/TKO wins against Karl Roberson (March 2022) and Modestas Bukauskas (Sept. 2021).

The southpaw Rountree Jr. has an ever-so-slight half-inch reach advantage. That’s about the only category in his favor though, as he has just 3.67 significant strikes landed per minute to 6.41 for Daukaus and lands just 41.99% of those strikes while Daukaus connects with a 52.20% significant strikes accuracy percentage.

Daukaus enters on a 3-bout losing skid, having been knocked out in each of his bouts against Jairzinho Rozenstruik (Dec. 2022), Curtis Blaydes (March 2022) and Derrick Lewis (Dec. 2021). Win or lose, he makes it exciting. All 7 of Daukaus’ fights at the UFC level have resulted in knockouts, with 4 going in his favor — including 3 in the 1st round. He has also never been past the 1:23 mark of the 2nd round in his 7 UFC bouts.

As far as KRJ is concerned, he has gone the distance in just 3 of his past 8 bouts, with 3 KO/TKO wins and 2 KO/TKO losses. Don’t blink when this fight comes on or you might miss it.

UFC on ESPN 51: Rountree Jr. vs. Daukaus odds

Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:05 a.m. ET.

  • Fight result (2-way line): Rountree Jr. -185 (bet $185 to win $100) | Daukaus +150 (bet $100 to win $150)
  • Over/Under: 1.5 rounds (Over +135 | Under -175)
  • Will the fight go the distance? (Yes +375 | No -650)

UFC on ESPN 51: Rountree Jr. vs. Daukaus picks and predictions

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

Rountree Jr. (-185) enters the octagon with momentum, winning the past 3 fights, but facing DAUKAUS (+150) is a big step up in competition. Daukaus has faced down the top fighters in the division, and won’t be fazed against “The War Horse”.

Daukaus is a whirling dervish who throws all kinds of punches, and he lands his significant strikes more frequently than his counterpart. In addition, he doesn’t go long, and win or lose, this fight will end in a knockout. I like the underdog straight up, but METHOD OF VICTORY – 7-WAY: DAUKAUS BY KO/TKO OR DQ (+250) is pretty tasty, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 1.5 ROUNDS (-175) comes with a pretty steep price tag, but it’s worth a look. Daukaus has never been past the midway point of Round 2 in 7 career UFC bouts.

Rountree Jr. went the distance last time out, and he has ended up past the middle of the 2nd round in 3 of his past 4 outings. However, he is going to face a storm earlier than usual as Daukaus will make him eat plenty of punches early and often.

UFC Fight Night 191: Modestas Bukauskas vs. Khalil Rountree Jr. odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 191 odds and lines between Modestas Bukauskas vs. Khalil Rountree Jr., with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a light heavyweight bout on the main card, Modestas Bukauskas faces Khalil Rountree Jr. Saturday at UFC Fight Night 191 – also known as UFC Vegas 36 – at the UFC’s APEX Facility. Below, we analyze the UFC Fight Night 191: Bukauskas vs. Rountree Jr. odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The entire card can be viewed on ESPN+ with the prelims beginning at 2 p.m. ET and the main card at 4 p.m. ET.

Bukauskas heads into this one on a two-bout losing skid, including a split-decision setback against Michal Oleksizjczuk last time out at UFC 260 March 27. Two of his three fights at the UFC have ended via stoppage, and 13 of his past 14 fights have finished inside the distance.

“The Baltic Gladiator” enters with a 1.5-inch reach advantage and two-inch advantage in height. He also has a 3.77-to-3.06 significant strikes landed per minute advantage.

Rountree Jr. also enters on a two-fight losing streak, falling by unanimous-decision against Marcin Prachnio at UFC 257 Jan. 23. Before that he was knocked out by Ion Cutelaba in the first round Sept. 28, 2019.

UFC Fight Night 191 Bukauskas vs. Rountree Jr.: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Bukauskas 11-4-0 | Rountree Jr. 9-5-0

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Both of these fighters could use a victory badly as a three-bout losing skid at this stage isn’t great for their long-term outlook in the UFC. Expect both fighters to bring their best.

The difference in size and punching ability will determine the winner. BUKAUSKAS (-175) is just a little bit taller, he has a longer reach and he is a knockout machine. Six of his past seven pro fights have ended via KO/TKO with the Lithuania getting his arm raised on five occasions during the span.

In addition, looking to method of victory, BUKAUSKAS BY TKO/KO (+140) for a chance at plus-money is also worth a roll of the dice.

Over/Under (O/U)

Playing No (-240): Will the fight go the distance? is a little on the expensive side – so avoid. However, UNDER 1.5 ROUNDS (-165) is worth a small-unit play. Bukauskas has seen two of his three fights at the UFC level end in Round 1, while six of Rountree’s nine fights with the promotion have finished in Round 1.
