Injury Report: Kevon Looney ‘100%’ recovered from core muscle surgery

According to his agent Todd Ramasar, the Golden State Warriors big man Kevon Looney is “100%” recovered from his core muscle surgery.

While Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson were the headliners, a lengthy group of names ran up and down the Golden State Warriors injury report throughout the 2019-20 season.

After signing a three year, $15 million contract to stay in Golden State, Kevon Looney missed 45 games with a bevy of different injuries. The UCLA product suffered a neuropathic condition along with injuries to his hamstring, abdomen and hip.

In May, the Warriors announced Looney underwent successful surgery to repair a core muscle injury. Two months later, the former first-round pick is back in the gym.

In a conversation with Wes Goldberg of the Bay Area News Group, Looney’s agent Todd Ramasar shared positive news about the big man’s recovery. According to Ramasar, Looney is “100%” recovered from his core muscle surgery.

After recovering from his surgery, Looney is back at San Francisco’s Chase Center working out. With Golden State’s extended offseason on the calendar, Ramasar said, “there’s no reason to push it” with Looney’s recovery.

In 20 games over the 2019-20 season, Looney averaged 3.4 points on 36.7% shooting from the field with 3.3 rebounds in 13.1 minutes per game. Looney’s top stretch of the season came in February when he recorded a pair of double-figure scoring efforts. In Looney’s final game, the 6-foot-9 big helped lead the Warriors to a win in Phoenix with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting with six boards and three assists.

Once the Warriors are back on the court, Looney will compete with Marquese Chriss and potentially a top center prospect like James Wiseman or Onyeka Okongwu for playing time in Steve Kerr’s frontcourt.

Injury Report: Kevon Looney (hip soreness) ruled out for the next 3 weeks

The Golden State Warriors will be without their veteran center for three weeks.

In an injury-riddled season, Kevon Looney played one of his best games of the year in the Golden State Warriors comeback win over the Phoenix Suns.

The UCLA product recorded 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting with six rebounds and three assists in 15 minutes. Since scoring in double-figures against the Suns, Looney missed the next three contests for the Warriors with hip soreness.

Looney’s absence from Golden State will continue to grow as the Warriors have officially ruled out their veteran center for the next three weeks.

After experiencing “ongoing symptoms,” Looney’s hip will be re-evaluated on March 28. Looney has missed 39 games this season with a neuropathic condition, abdominal and hip soreness. The Golden State center will miss at least the next nine games before being re-evaluated.

Without Looney, Golden State will lean heavily on breakout center Marquese Chriss. Dragan Bender and Alen Smailagic will be options for the frontcourt off the bench for Steve Kerr.

Kevon Looney will have pitch count for Warriors in return vs. Atlanta

The Warriors are finally slated to get their big man, Kevon Looney back from injury, but when he returns he will see a minute restriction.

A bevy of injuries has overwhelmed the Warriors to start the 2019-20 season. However, what feels like a first in a long time, the team is getting some positive news regarding their banged-up squad.

Draymond Green has returned from a hampering sore heel, D’Angelo Russell, and Jacob Evans are progressing. Now, Kevon Looney is expected to be back on the court in the Warriors’ upcoming game against the Atlanta Hawks.

Looney’s missed all but 10-minutes of the new season with a neuropathic condition that was affecting his right hamstring. Looney returned to practice with the Warriors G League affiliate last week, and has progressed to practicing in full with the big club on their road trip. Steve Kerr told reporters in Orlando that the plan would be for Looney to return when the team squares off with the Atlanta Hawks.

“Loon is scheduled to play tomorrow,” coach Kerr told reporters in Orlando. “He’ll go through his work today, then his treatment tomorrow morning, and we’ll make a decision then, but the plan is for him to play tomorrow night.”

Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle reported Looney would be on a minute restriction when he gets back to the court. Last week both Looney and Kerr mentioned wanting to make sure the UCLA product’s conditioning was under him before seeing game action.

The Warriors are going to be patient with Looney after signing him to a three-year, $15 million contract over the offseason, but his return to the lineup will give the team a viable option inside with experience.
