G League’s OKC Blue acquire Ryan Woolridge, waive Kevin Kangu

The OKC Blue made a pair of roster moves.

The Oklahoma City Blue — the G League affiliate of the Oklahoma City Thunder — announced on Thursday that they have acquired Ryan Woolridge and waived Kevin Kangu in a corresponding move.

Wooldridge went undrafted in the 2020 NBA draft. The 25-year-old played for the Blue in 2021. In 14 games with the Blue, he averaged 6.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

While Woolridge attended Gonzaga, his college tenure did not intersect with No. 2 pick Chet Holmgren.

Kangu was drafted by the Blue in the 2022 G League draft. The 20-year-old also spent the 2022 Summer League with the Thunder. Kangu is friends with fellow Canadian Shai Gilgeous-Alexander — who is the face of the franchise for the Thunder.

The Blue are currently 2-0 in the young 2022-23 G League season.

Recap: OKC Blue 2022 G League Draft picks

The OKC Blue selected five players in the 2022 G League Draft.

The 2022 G League draft was held on Saturday. Unlike its NBA counterpart, the G League holds three rounds of players to be drafted.

The G League is made up of 30 teams — 28 NBA team affiliates, the G League Ignite and the Mexico City Capitanes.

The OKC Blue — the G League affiliate of the Oklahoma City Thunder — selected five players with their five draft picks. The Blue had two first-round picks, two second-round picks and one third-round pick.

The Blue was able to add two second-round picks after completing a trade on Friday with the Iowa Wolves — the Minnesota Timberwolves’ G League affiliate.

Let’s take a look at the five players the Blue selected as they prepare to start their 2022-23 regular season in November.
