The Buccaneers may have surprised a few people last night when they decided to take Vanderbilt running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn with the 76th overall pick in round three. With one of the top-ranked running backs still on the board in Utah’s Zack Moss, the Bucs opted for Vaughn not only for his dynamic running ability, but because of the pass-catching potential he provides out of the backfield.
It’s no secret that Bruce Arians, and Brady in particular, likes to utilize running backs in the pass game, and it seems that aspect of Vaughn’s game was what drew the Bucs to him.
Bucs Director of Player Personnel John Spytek on RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn: "He's a good runner and a good receiver out of the backfield. He's got the ability to detach and run some of the routes that Coach Arians likes to do."

RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn said that Vanderbilt started using him in more passing routes in his senior season, which is certainly something the Buccaneers will look to further develop.

Best of all, Vaughn seems confident in his pass-blocking ability, too, which I’m sure will come in handy next season defending a 43-year-old quarterback.
New Bucs RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn says he's very confident in his pass-blocking ability but now that he's with Tom Brady he knows he has to make sure he's even better at it.

Welcome to the big time, Vaughn!
