New Bears QB coach Kerry Joseph serving as coach at Senior Bowl

The Bears have a growing presence at the Senior Bowl, where new QBs coach Kerry Joseph is set to coach the American quarterbacks.

The Chicago Bears have a growing presence at the Senior Bowl, where there are a number of assistant coaches set to work with some of the nation’s top prospects.

The Bears hired Kerry Joseph as their quarterbacks coach, the first hire for new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. Joseph had previously been named as the quarterbacks coach for the American Team at the Senior Bowl.

He’ll work with American quarterbacks Spencer Rattler, Joe Milton, Michael Pratt and Carter Bradley.

Joseph joins tight ends coach Jim Dray, who will coach the offensive line for the National Team, assistant defensive line coach Justin Hinds, who will coach the defensive line for the American Team and assistant Kenny Norton III, who will serve as the defensive backs coach for the American Team.

The Bears had a big Senior Bowl presence last year, as well. Chicago drafted four players who were at the Senior Bowl: right tackle Darnell Wright, cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, defensive tackle Zacch Pickens and running back Roschon Johnson.

The Bears have other assistant coaches that will be getting to work with some talented prospects, outside of Hinds and Dray. Special teams coordinator Richard Hightower will serve as the East head coach in the East-West Shrine Game while linebackers coach Dave Borgonzi will serve as the East’s defensive coordinator.

Bears hiring Seahawks assistant Kerry Joseph as quarterbacks coach

Former Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron will be bringing at least one assistant from Seattle with him to Chicago.

Former Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron will be bringing at least one assistant from Seattle with him to Chicago.

According to a report by Tom Pelissero at NFL Network, assistant quarterbacks coach Kerry Joseph is getting hired by the Bears to be their new QBs coach.

Joseph had been on Seattle’s staff since the 2020 season, filling a few different roles during that time. Older fans may recall he was also a backup DB for the Seahawks from 1998-2001.

In Chicago Joseph will be challenged with developing a young quarterback – either Justin Fields or someone they pick in the 2024 NFL draft. While the results have been disappointing, Fields has not been given a proper supporting cast or a quality playcaller yet and his potential hasn’t even come close to being fulfilled.

Given the choice, we would stick with Fields and either draft WR1 Marvin Harrison Jr. or trade down, but there’s a strong argument to start over with another QB on a fresh rookie contract. The consensus No. 1 pick in this class is expected to be USC quarterback Caleb Williams.

Bears hiring Kerry Joseph as quarterbacks coach

Bears OC Shane Waldron has started filling out his offensive staff. First up: Kerry Joseph has been hired as QBs coach.

The Chicago Bears found their new offensive coordinator in Shane Waldron, and he’s hard at work assembling his coaching staff.

The Bears have hired Kerry Joseph as their quarterbacks coach, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Joseph served as the Seattle Seahawks’ assistant quarterbacks coach for two years under Waldron. It’s the first hire for Waldron.

Joseph is a former CFL quarterback and NFL safety. He got his coaching start with the New Orleans Saints as a training camp intern in 2014 before serving as co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach at McNeese State. Joseph, who played as a safety for Seattle, joined the Seahawks organization in 2020 as an offensive assistant. He was promoted to assistant wide receivers coach in 2021 and then assistant quarterbacks coach in 2022.

The Bears have an important decision to make at quarterback this offseason — stick with Justin Fields or draft Caleb Williams with the first overall pick. This move doesn’t move the needle one way or the other, much like the Waldron hire.

Regardless, this hire is an important one, as it’ll be Waldron and Joseph responsible for either turning Fields’ career around or developing potential generational talent, Williams.

Broncos coaching staff update: Strength coach hired, QBs coaches interview

The Broncos interviewed Greg Olson (not to be confused with Greg Olsen) as a QBs coach, hired a strength coach, and lost their WRs coach.

Slowly but surely, Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton has been building his new coaching staff at Dove Valley.

The latest addition to the staff is Dan Dalrymple as the team’s new strength and conditioning coach, according to a report from NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill. Dalrymple previously held the same role with the New Orleans Saints under Payton.

Elsewhere on the coaching front, the Broncos recently interviewed Greg Olson (not to be confused with Greg Olsen) and Kerry Joseph for the quarterbacks coach position, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. Olson has since been hired by the Seattle Seahawks as a QBs coach.

Denver will also need to find a new wide receivers coach after Zach Azzanni left the team to join the New York Jets in a lateral move, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Azzanni, who coached the Broncos’ WRs over the last five seasons, will reunite with Nathaniel Hackett, who is now the offensive coordinator in New York.

Denver’s own offensive coordinator position remains unfilled, but it’s not a crucial hire for the Broncos given that Payton will run the offense. The team’s defensive coordinator job will be a crucial hire, though, and Denver has several candidates.

Vance Joseph, who has already interviewed with the Broncos, is scheduled to interview with the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday and Thursday, according to KMGH-TV’s Troy Renck.

In addition to Joseph, Rex Ryan is also a DC option for Denver, as are Kris Richard, Mike Zimmer and in-house candidate Christian Parker.

We are tracking all of the Broncos’ coaching staff moves on this page.
