And now, it begins.
Michigan football hadn’t gotten a commitment since the summer, but now that the season is underway, it received one after the Week 2 game against Washington in Boise State flip Mason Graham and then again this past weekend when Madison (Ala.) Academy three-star athlete Deuce Spurlock spurned Auburn for the maize and blue.
And it’s just added more bulk up front in the 2022 class as of Tuesday.
One of the Wolverines’ top targets in 2022 has been Merrillville (Ind.) four-star defensive tackle Kenneth Grant. According to the 247Sports Composite (where he is a three-star, he’s a four-star in the proprietary rankings), he is the No. 511 prospect in the country, the 76th-best defensive lineman and the No. 12 player in the state of Indiana. He boasts offers from Ohio State, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, and Nebraska, but ultimately chose to pledge to Michigan football on Tuesday afternoon.
110% committed!!!I want to thank everyone that helped me choose my decision and took time out of there life to help and recruit me.#Goblueđđ @CoachJim4UM pic.twitter.com/BdkPRhJIiB

Grant is listed at 6-foot-4, 335-pounds. His scouting report from Allen Trieu indicates he projects as a Power Five starter and has a similar style of play as former Ohio State lineman Johnathan Hankins.
Massive interior prospect. Looks like a classic nose guard but is not just a gap plugger in high school. Runs surprisingly well for a big guy, shows closing speed and will pursue plays. Nimble and can make offensive linemen miss their punch but can also drive them straight back with brute strength. Has to be more consistent play to play but has upside because size and ability to move at that size are rare.
He is Michigan’s 18th commitment in the 2022 class.
