On Wednesday, Rutgers women’s basketball continued to struggle as they dropped their ninth straight game. Rutgers took on Illinois, who dominated offensively in a 96-68 win. From the first whistle, the Scarlet Knights proved to be no match for the Illini.
In their latest win, Illinois used a big first quarter in which they outscored Rutgers 23-5 to build a lead they would never relinquish. They were led by Genesis Bryant, who added 17 points to her resume. She got some help from Kendall Bostic, who chipped in 13 points.
While Rutgers will quickly put this game in the rearview memory, there were a few positives. As she has done all season, Destiny Adams was a scoring machine. The New Jersey native added 26 points to her resume, and Mya Petticord chipped in with 16 of her own.

In their latest loss, Rutgers could not stop Illinois close to the basket. The Fighting Illinois scored 40 points in the paint while only allowing 26. That allowed them to build a lead early on and put pressure on Rutgers to take advantage of every opportunity.

The Scarlet Knights will now shift their focus to Michigan. On Sunday, they will take on a Wolverines team that is 3-2 in conference play, the fourth-best record in the Big Ten.
