Complete contract details, salary cap breakdown for OL Keith Ismael

OL Keith Ismael returns to the Cardinals on a one-year deal. Here are the full details of the contract.

It has been said there’s very little rest for the weary in the NFL, and that’s especially the case at this time of the year.

The transactions have been in the hundreds around the league in the first week of the 2024 league year and the Arizona Cardinals have been a big part of that.

Eleven players have been re-signed and another eight added who ended the 2023 season on another team. The total includes four players re-signed prior to the official opening of the league year on Wednesday: wide receiver Greg Dortch, defensive end L.J. Collier, linebacker Jesse Luketa and tackle/guard Carter O’Donnell.

Prior to Saturday, we reported on the contract details for 11 players. Cards Wire learned the numbers for another six today, leaving only wide receiver Chris Moore and defensive lineman Khyiris Tonga with unknown figures.

The six are punter Blake Gillikin, long snapper Aaron Brewer, offensive linemen Elijah Wilkinson, Trystan Colon and Keith Ismael and cornerback Bobby Price.

What to know about new Cardinals OL Keith Ismael

The Cardinals were awarded former 49ers OL Keith Ismael via a waiver claim. Here is some information about him.

Of the six new players the Arizona Cardinals acquired via waiver claim was offensive lineman Keith Ismael, formerly of the San Francisco 49ers. What is there to know about the new addition?

He was drafted in the fifth round by the Washington Commanders (then the Football Team) in 2020. He appeared in 18 games in 2020 and 2021, starting five in 2021, all at center.

He spent last season on the 49ers’ practice squad.

He is 6-foot-3 and 310 pounds and played collegiately at San Diego State, where he was a two-time first-team All-Mountain West selection and started all 38 games played at both center and guard.

He will compete with Trystan Colon to be the Cardinals’ backup center behind starter Hjalte Froholdt.

Niners Wire managing editor Kyle Madson described Ismael this offseason as “unspectacular.”

“The 49ers don’t really have a backup center, so he had a real shot to make the team, but didn’t,” he told me. “Just not a great camp or preseason.”

Commanders re-sign center Keith Ismael

The Commanders retained center Keith Ismael, who signed his exclusive-rights free agent tender.

Keith Ismael accepted and signed an exclusive rights tender with the Washington Commanders Tuesday, according to the league’s transaction wire.

The reserve center was drafted out of San Diego State in the 2020 NFL draft by Washington in the 5th round (156 overall).

You may recall that during the morning of Day 3 of the 2020 draft, Washington traded unhappy Trent Williams to San Francisco for a 2020 third-round pick (74 overall) which Washington used to draft cornerback Benjamin St-Juste. Also included in the deal was the fifth-round pick (156) which Washington used to select Ismael.

Ismael signed a 4-year $3.61 million dollar rookie deal and appeared in 8 games his rookie season, seeing only 34 special teams snaps and 4 offensive snaps.

However, the former Aztec was released on August 31, 2021, as the preseason was concluding, but brought back to the practice squad before the regular season began.

When Chase Roullier’s season ended against Denver in week 8 (Oct 31, 2021) Ismael was elevated to the roster, on Nov. 4, appeared in 10 games, starting 5 games at center.

The Commanders had offered Ismael the exclusive rights tender in mid-March. Ismael is thus agreeing to sign, report and again compete for a roster spot. He does offer some “position-flex” as Coach Ron likes to call it, in that he can play both center and guard.

Washington adds 3 more players to COVID list, including Kam Curl

Washington added three more players to the reserve/COVID-19 list, and how has 21 players on the list.

The Washington Football Team added three more players to the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday. Safety Kam Curl and centers Keith Ismael and Tyler Larsen were the latest additions to the COVID list.

Washington now has 21 players on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Washington is in a dire situation at center, with Larsen and Ismael on the COVID list. Larsen will likely head to injured reserve after injuring his Achilles in Sunday’s loss to Dallas but joins the COVID list for now.

Ismael was Washington’s fourth center, following Chase Roullier, Larsen and Wes Schweitzer. Roullier and Schweitzer are already on IR.

Curl is one of Washington’s top players. This season, the second-year safety has been outstanding and will be difficult to replace if he can’t play Sunday vs. Eagles.

There’s still no word on whether some players placed on the COVID list either last week or earlier this week will be available to play Sunday. As of now, Washington will have trouble fielding a competent roster in a massive NFC East game with playoff implications.

Washington tight end Logan Thomas reportedly lost for season

Logan Thomas is reportedly done for the season after Raiders DE goes low on him. Just brutal, unfortunate and unnecessary.

What happened to Logan Thomas?

Washington led the Raiders 14-12 with exactly ten minutes remaining, facing a second-and-2 at its own 28 yard-line. Antonio Gibson lined up behind Heinicke and from outside the right hash mark, DeAndre Carter began to come in motion left.

At the snap of the ball, Heinicke turned to his right, handing off to Gibson who appeared to be heading behind right guard Brandon Scherff. Sure enough Scherff turned his man to the right, and center Keith Ismael, with no one lined directly over him, went to the second level and stopped linebacker K J Wright from getting to Gibson.

Gibson on the play gained eight yards to the 36, and replay even revealed Scherff clapping in approval that Gibson had run hard through the hole created by Scherff and Ismael.

Back to Thomas, who had been lined up just behind and outside of right tackle Cornelius Lucas. At the snap, Thomas came across the formation left, aiming to cut off any possible Raider penetration from the back side. As Thomas neared Raider defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, Ngakoue seemed to unnecessarily, go directly toward the left knee of Thomas.

Thomas was seen instantly in pain, grabbing his left knee. One hour after the game Adam Schefter reported the bad news.

This is a big blow to the Washington offense as the team winning four straight is making a late-season push for the playoffs. Thomas was going to be a big part of the red zone attack down the stretch. Logan, we at Washington Wire are sorry for this unfortunate injury and certainly wish you the best.

Washington adds center Keith Ismael to active roster

Washington signed center/guard to the active roster on Thursday.

The Washington Football Team lost starting center Chase Roullier for the season earlier this week with a leg injury. Veteran Tyler Larsen will now replace Roullier as Washington’s starting center for the remainder of the season.

On Thursday, Washington added some familiar depth by promoting center/guard Keith Ismael from the practice squad. A fifth-round pick out of San Diego State, Ismael will now be Washington’s primary backup to Larsen.

Ismael was on the active roster for the last two games but was not eligible to be called up again without being signed to a normal player contract. At the end of Sunday’s loss to the Broncos, he played in three snaps when left guard Ereck Flowers went down with an injury.

After this week’s bye, Washington hosts Tampa Bay in Week 10. The team expects to get All-Pro right guard Brandon Scherff, right tackle Sam Cosmi and Flowers back for the game.

Ismael was a part of Washington’s final cuts before the season, but the team immediately signed him to the practice squad once he cleared waivers.

Washington signs C Chase Roullier to 4-year, $40.5 million contract extension; $19 million guaranteed

Washington has locked down center Chase Roullier for the foreseeable future with a four-year contract extension that gets one of the staples of the offensive line paid.

The Washington Football Team has made it’s first long-term contract extension of the season, inking center Chase Roullier to a four-year contract extension that will keep him in Washington for the foreseeable future.

Roullier has been one of the staples of Washington’s offensive line since being drafted in the 6th round in 2017. Washington has found some real success on their offensive line this season, and Roullier’s ability and availability has been a big part of that.

There was some question as to where he stood with the team earlier this year after the draft selection of C Keith Ismael in the 2020 NFL Draft. Many thought that Ismael would compete for the starting C position and push Roullier out in a contract year, but Roullier has played very well and earned his place on Washington’s offensive line.

Grading the rookies in Washington at the halfway point of the 2020 season

With half of their rookie season behind them, we handed out grades to the young players in Washington who are starting out their careers.

With seven weeks of the 2020 season in the rearview mirror, it feels like a good time to take stock of the season and reflect on what we’ve seen thus far. For the Washington Football Team, things started out with a bang after a thrilling comeback victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, but it’s been a frustrating watch ever since, minus the blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys last weekend.

Fortunately for Washington, the young players on the team have been performing pretty well for the most part, and it seems to be yet another successful draft class that was put together in 2020. Here are our grades for the rookies class so far this season.

Can rookier C Keith Ismael beat out Chase Roullier for starting spot?

The Redskins drafted C Keith Ismael in the fifth round, and some people are starting to think he can compete for the starting job.

In the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, with viable cornerbacks and tight ends left on the board, the Washington Redskins turned some heads when they selected center, Keith Ismael, out of San Diego State.

With Chase Roullier already a solid asset at the center position in Washington, this was initially a confusing draft pick simply because it seemed that the team was selecting a backup from the start. However, as more people have dug into what Ismael can bring to the table, some questions about his starting have viability have risen as well.

According to Jim Nagy, Executive Director of the Senior Bowl, he wouldn’t be surprised to see the rookie compete with Roullier for the starting spot.

“If (Roullier) has just been solid, I would expect Keith to compete for that starting job,” Nagy told The Athletic. “Keith can probably help (in a pinch) at guard, but he’s a starting-level NFL center. I have no doubt about that. He’s a better player than a lot of guys starting in the league that I’ve scouted. I thought that was one of Washington’s better picks. He’s quick. He’s athletic. He’s really tough. Strong hands.”

With offensive line coach John Matsko starting his first year in Washington, he will have a chance to get fresh eyes on all players, which may level the playing field a bit for the rookie. While Roullier may have served as a solid option for the past couple of years, the Redskins obviously like what they got in the fifth-round in the draft, and I bet they will be keen to see what he can do on the field as well.
