Florida defensive lineman Keenan Landry enters transfer portal

Redshirt sophomore Keenan Landry took to social media to announce his departure from the Florida football program on Sunday.

The Florida Gators lost another player to the transfer portal today, but this time on the defensive side of the ball.

Redshirt sophomore [autotag]Keenan Landry[/autotag] took to social media to announce his departure from the Florida football program. The defensive lineman thanked head coach Billy Napier and his teammates as well.

“The relationships and memories I have built with my brothers will be something I always cherish, Landry said. “I have entered my name into the transfer portal.”

Landry was originally a walk-on at Florida in 2022, before earning a scholarship the following season. The lineman only made three appearances on the field in 2023.

Landry joins a growing list of transfers from UF, including tight ends Andrew Savaiinaea and Jonathan Odom, who both entered the portal on Monday afternoon. Florida Gators center Kingsley Eguakun declared his name for the 2024 NFL draft on Tuesday as well.

Two Gators placed on football scholarship over bye week

A pair of Florida walk-ons are now on scholarship. Congratulations to defensive lineman Keenan Landry and receiver Taylor Spierto.

Florida put two players on scholarship Friday, according to Swamp247.

Defensive lineman [autotag]Keenan Landry[/autotag] and wide receiver [autotag]Taylor Spierto[/autotag] both joined the team as walk-ons but have since earned a spot on the scholarship roster, which is now two spots shy of a possible 85 total.

Landry played nine games with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in 2021 before joining the program as a preferred walk-on a year ago. He redshirted after appearing in one game (Eastern Washington) and has only played in one game so far through eight weeks in 2023.

Although he hasn’t received much playing time, Landry passed up scholarships from FIU, Jacksonville State and even McNeese State, which is coincidentally the one game he’s played in this year. He joined UF hoping to earn a scholarship down the line, and he completed that goal.

Spierto is a different story. He’s played in all seven of Florida’s games this year, either on offense as a receiver or on special teams. He’s hauled in two receptions for 17 yards so far, earning him the scholarship.

It’s unclear if Florida intends to fill the final two spots on its scholarship roster. The departures of safeties Dakota Mitchell and Jadarrius Perkins have created space.
