Ravens place RB Keaton Mitchell on the PUP list to begin training camp

The Baltimore Ravens have placed second year running back Keaton Mitchell on the Physically Unable to Perform list to begin 2024 training camp

Keaton Mitchell will make his 2024 debut at some point this fall, but he won’t be available to participate at the start of training camp on July 21.

Mitchell has spent the off-season and summer rehabbing from a torn ACL suffered in the Ravens 23-7 win over the Jaguars last December.

NFL media’s Ian Rapoport reports that Mitchell is at the Under Armour Performance Center for the start of training camp, but he’ll start on the PUP list.

The Ravens’ official Twitter account confirmed the news moments ago.

Mitchell had nine carries for 73 yards (8.1 YPC) and two catches for 15 yards before exiting against Jacksonville. At that point last season, he was the most explosive running back on the roster.

Mitchell finished his rookie season with 47 carries for 396 yards and two touchdowns, and he is looking at an October or November return at the earliest.

John Harbaugh breaks down how injury to RB Keaton Mitchell will impact Ravens offense

Ravens’ head coach John Harbaugh discussed how the injury to running back Keaton Mitchell will impact the offense moving forward

The Baltimore Ravens found a particular player in running back Keaton Mitchell. The undrafted rookie out of East Carolina made a name for himself on the field for Baltimore this season but suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Week 15 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Losing Mitchell will be challenging for the Ravens as they embark on what hopefully will be a Super Bowl journey, but it won’t be impossible to overcome his absence. Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh was asked how Mitchell’s injury would impact the offense, and he was honest in his assessment.

“Well, we’re going to run our offense. It’ll be our offense with the guys we have. The plays that [Keaton Mitchell] was running, the other guys can run. Everybody puts their own fingerprint on the play. The play looks the way it does a lot of times because the guys running it. That’s really the personality of a play – everybody runs similar plays, but not all of them look the same. So, the guys running it will put their flair onto it, and obviously it will be … We’re going to miss Keaton. He’s a great player, a great guy, one of the young guys [and] kind of a revelation. He’ll continue to be that when he comes back, and the other guys will get their chance, and they’ll go get the job done.”

Melvin Gordon III Signed to 53-Man Roster; Jake Funk to Practice Squad

The Ravens announced three roster moves on Tuesday, signing Melvin Gordon III to the active roster from the practice squad.

Baltimore also placed rookie running back Keaton Mitchell onto injured reserve after he suffered a season-ending torn ACL in the win over the Jaguars.

In recent weeks, the undrafted rookie had established himself as Baltimore’s most explosive running back.

He finished the game with nine carries for 73 yards (8.1 per carry), including a 24-yard gain.

Ravens rookie RB Keaton Mitchell suffered torn ACL in 23-7 win over Jaguars

Ravens’ RB Keaton Mitchell to miss remainder of season after suffering torn ACL in the 23-7 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars

The Ravens found a gem when they signed Keaton Mitchell as an undrafted free agent, and the former ECU star will look toward 2024 after suffering a torn ACL in the 23-7 win over the Jaguars.

Mitchell had nine carries for 73 yards (8.1 YPC) and logged two catches for 15 yards before exiting.

This is the third significant injury for a Ravens offensive star.

Starting running back J.K. Dobbins sustained a season-ending Achilles injury in the season opener, and tight end Mark Andrews will miss at least the rest of the regular season after injuring his ankle in Week 11.

Mitchell will finish his rookie season with 47 carries for 396 yards and two touchdowns while looking at a November 2024 return at the earliest.
