Takeaways from Auburn basketball’s 55-54 win over Missouri

This one felt like theft.

There was a robbery on a freezing Tuesday night in Columbia, Missouri.

The No. 1 Auburn Tigers (19-1, 8-0 SEC) escaped Mizzou Arena with a 55-54 win over the Missouri Tigers (8-11, 2-5 SEC). Auburn didn’t deserve to win the game after such a poor showing, but KD Johnson, the Hamburgler himself, came up with a pair of clutch baskets late to get the Tigers over the hump.

This was one of those games that made me feel like I couldn’t take a deep breath. Every time the pace started to increase, there was a foul or a stoppage in play. Missouri executed its game plan to perfection. Play physical, grind it out and shut down Jabari Smith. Unfortunately, it was just barely not enough.

Here are five takeaways from Auburn’s extremely close win over Missouri.

Temperature check on SEC basketball ahead of weekend action

We go around the SEC ahead of weekend hoops action.

It’s Friday. That means we’re back taking a peak around the SEC to see what’s going on the hardcourt outside of Baton Rouge.

A lot happened this week and it’s not over yet either. On Saturday, we’ll see Kentucky head south to take on Auburn in a game that has national implications.

Will Wade and his group will be travelling to Knoxville to face a Tennessee that’s team looking for revenge.

Texas A&M and Arkansas will square off in a game that could have bubble implications come selection Sunday in March.

Elsewhere, Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi State will look to care of business as home favorites in games they can’t much afford to lose.

Earlier this week, Florida got a big win over Mississippi State. It didn’t look good for the Gators at halftime but they figured out down the stretch to secure a eight point victory. Florida needed the win to avoid falling to 1-4 in conference play.

For Mississippi State it was a missed opportunity to follow up their win against Alabama with a win on the road in Gainesville. A pair of wins like that could have gone a long way to pushing the Bulldogs off the bubble and into the field of 68.

Best Auburn Twitter replies to Georgia basketball

Auburn fans made sure Georiga knew how far apart the two programs are.

Auburn cruised to a 83-60 win over Georgia in front of a wild Auburn Arena Wednesday night.

The No. 2 Tigers were led by Walker Kessler who had 15 points and six rebounds. KD Johnson scored 12 points against his former team and six Tigers finished in double figures.

Auburn improved to 17-1 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in SEC play and is set to face Kentucky in Auburn Arena Saturday and with a win will likely be the No. 1 team in the country for the first time in program history.

As usual, Auburn fans let Georgia know in their final score post, responding over 2,000 times in the first 20 minutes. Here are some of the best responses.

Takeaways from Auburn basketball’s 85-73 win over Florida

Another huge win for the Tigers!

Auburn proved yet again that they were capable of winning a grind-it-out type of game on Saturday night.

The Tigers defeated Florida by a final score of 85-73, picking up their 14th win of the season, as well as their third win in conference play.

KD Johnson led the way for No. 9 Auburn (14-1) with 23 points, a rebound, an assist, and three steals.

Florida (9-5, 0-2 SEC) relied on big man Colin Castleton (22 points, 10 rebounds, one assist) to sustain offense for the Gators, but overall the offense could not keep up with Auburn’s hot shooting.

Here are five takeaways from Saturday night’s action between Auburn and Florida.

Takeaways from Auburn’s double-overtime loss to UConn

What a game.

What a game.

The Auburn Tigers found themselves up by 11 early, then down by 15, then tied at the end of both regulation and overtime. But unfortunately, the offense sputtered out in a 115-109 double-overtime loss to UConn in the Battle 4 Atlantis. A tough one, for sure, but man was that fun.

Auburn fans should not be distraught after losing. That was a phenomenal game that showed so much potential. The Tigers allowed UConn to make 8-of-12 from deep in the first half but managed to slow the Huskies’ shooting down just enough to climb back into the contest.

Here are five takeaways from the loss.

Five reasons why Auburn basketball is going to win the SEC

Sip the Kool-Aid with us, will you?

It’s never to late to pump some sunshine.

Auburn played decently well against Morehead State on Tuesday night in a 77-54 win. The Tigers let off the gas in the second half, but overall their talent was shining through, and as a fan that’s what I wanted to see most.

I know there are a lot of folks high up on teams like Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, and even LSU and Mississippi State. The Southeastern Conference has a loaded field of teams this season. But I think the Tigers of Auburn are going to be the ones that come out on top.

Here are five reasons why.

Five takeaways from Auburn vs Morehead State

What was your biggest takeaway from Auburn basketball’s first win?

This is one of the most talented teams I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing in person.

While Auburn wasn’t particularly impressive in the second half, the Tigers came away with a 77-54 win over the Morehead State Eagles.

The Tigers overcame some issues that they had in the exhibition game against Southern Indiana, but its still clear that the chemistry for this team isn’t quite there yet. The talent and the intensity surely is. As most Bruce Pearl teams do, this team is going to hopefully build that chemistry as the season develops.

Here are five takeaways from the win.

Five takeaways from Auburn basketball’s 68-54 win over Southern Indiana

We love this team already.

I’m already in love with this team.

Auburn didn’t shoot the basketball well, they were sloppy throughout the entire game, and were down 9-0 early in the contest. I still love them.

The Tigers defeated Southern Indiana 68-54 in their exhibition game on Friday night. Devan Cambridge lead Auburn with 13 points on 4 of 7 shooting. Isaiah Swope of USI led all scorers with 15 points, knocking down a trio of threes.

Overall, as to be expected, the Tigers were sloppy, but this keep in mind this was an exhibition game. AU’s Final Four squad lost their exhibition game.

Here are five takeaways from Auburns win over USI.

Projecting Auburn basketball’s starting lineup

Who do you think starts at small forward?

Auburn has something they haven’t had at every position under Bruce Pearl.

Depth.

The Tigers dipped into the transfer portal and picked up three transfer guards to solidify the depth there. Auburn can go four-deep at small forward. The Tigers have a spot-up shooter in Jabari Smith at power forward… and don’t forget Auburn has three centers on the roster who are expected to play significant minutes.

This is easily the most well-rounded roster Bruce Pearl has ever had. The issue doesn’t lie in the talent, but in the fact that there may be too many mouths to feed.

Here is the projected starting lineup for Auburn basketball’s season opener vs Morehead State. Keep in mind that Allen Flanigan will be out until mid-December.

Georgia guard transfer K.D. Johnson commits to Auburn

Georgia guard transfer K.D. Johnson announced his commitment to Auburn on Wednesday afternoon.

Auburn has landed a transfer from a rival.

On Wednesday, Georgia guard transfer K.D. Johnson announced that he’s committed to play for the Tigers in the upcoming season.

Johnson is no stranger to Bruce Pearl and company as he was highly recruited by the Tigers in 2020 as a top-100 player in the class. He ended up committing to Tom Crean and the Bulldogs where, as a freshman last season, he averaged 13.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 38.7 percent from the three-point line.
