A former Michigan State quarterback will be starting the season on the bench instead of on the field at his new school.

Former Spartan starting quarterback Katin Houser has been beaten out by Jake Garcia for the starting spot at East Carolina. Houser transferred to the Pirates in the offseason and was expected to be the starter this upcoming season.

Stephen Igoe of 247Sports’ Hoist The Colours reported the notable East Carolina quarterback battle news.

Houser was a former four-star prospect in the 2022 class and was once considered the future at quarterback for the Spartans. Houser appeared in 11 games this past season and 112 of 191 passes for 1,130 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions.
