Kansas vs TCU Game Preview

Why TCU Will Win

Kansas is sucking all of the oxygen out of the Big 12 room, but TCU has been even more dominant and more impressive so far in the 4-0 start under new head coach Sonny Dykes.

The offense rolled at will in a stunning 55-24 win over Oklahoma, the running game is averaging seven yards per pop, and only Tennessee is gaining more yards overall per game.

It’s all clicking, and it’s happening without any major mistakes getting in the way.

There were too many penalties in the win over SMU, but the ten were an aberration – flags aren’t a problem. The one lost fumble against Tarleton State was the only turnover so far, the special teams have been great, and Kansas is going to have to be close to perfect to deal with all of it.

NFL Expert Picks, Week 5

Why Kansas Will Win

Where did that come from?

In a season full of WOW moments for the program, being able to beat Iowa State 14-11 took things to another level.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Kansas started out well with a balanced offense that was doing just about everything right, but the defense struggled with West Virginia and Duke throwing well and and the Houston running game doing enough to keep up for a while.

Iowa State was stuffed for just 26 rushing yards, the defense held firm time and again, and the Jayhawks showed they were adaptable enough to win ugly when needed.

The offensive line has been terrific, QB Jalon Daniels has been given time to work, and there haven’t been enough mistakes to matter with just two turnovers after the opener against Tennessee Tech.

What’s Going To Happen

GameDay will be there, the focus will be on Lawrence, Kansas on a day loaded with massive showdowns, and guest will ruin the party.

Okay, so go against Kansas at your own risk at this point, but TCU is playing way too well.

It’s not going to screw up to give the Jayhawks a slew of breaks, the run defense will hold up, and the offense will run enough to control the clock and tempo.

Kansas vs TCU Game Preview

Why Kansas Will Win

No, Kansas won’t be that flat two games in a row.

It struggled from the field in a strange 80-70 loss to Baylor on Saturday – give credit to the Bears for a great defensive performance – but the Jayhawk D was great at stopping the three.

TCU doesn’t make threes.

It doesn’t take enough, and it doesn’t make them when it does. It’s a team that should fit Kansas perfectly. It wants a relatively low scoring game that relies in its rebounding ability and defensive toughness inside.

Kansas hits its threes and it leads the Big 12 in defensive rebounds. But …

– Latest Polls AP | Coaches

Why TCU Will Win

The rebounding. It has to be there.

No, the offense isn’t there to keep up if Kansas gets rolling, but TCU is one of the toughest teams in the Big 12. It gets nasty defensively – especially lately from three – and it makes lots and lots of shots inside.

It wants to make this a battle that comes down to passing the ball around and coming up with the easy inside shot. It’s hitting well over 50% from the field over the last three games, Kansas is giving up too many offensive rebounds, and …

What’s Going To Happen

TCU isn’t hitting its free throws, and it’s a huge problem.

If you’re not able to run in a shootout in the 80s, you have to score whenever there’s an opportunity. TCU doesn’t get to the line enough, and it doesn’t do enough when it’s there.

Kansas isn’t amazing on the free throw line, but it’s good enough, and it leads the Big 12 at hitting the threes. That will be enough to survive.

Kansas vs TCU Game Preview

Why Kansas Will Win

Well look at who won a Big 12 conference game.

Kansas might have been blasted by Oklahoma State and Kansas State, but it played great for a half against Oklahoma and it made Texas sad with a 57-56 overtime win.

The offense was balanced, QB Jalon Daniels was terrific, and head coach Lance Leipold and his staff have done wonders to turn around the attitude and the momentum of this program.

Meanwhile, TCU is in a holding pattern after the Gary Patterson era came to an end.

The win over Baylor in the first game post-Patterson was fun, and then reality dropped on TCU’s head with Oklahoma State running wild in a 63-17 blowout.

Kansas has been able to run a bit – it did it against Texas – and it has to get rumbling right away on a TCU defensive front that gives up yards in chunks.

However …

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 12

Why TCU Will Win

It’s not like the Kansas defense kept the Longhorn offense in check. It gave up 574 yards and 56 points after giving up close to 500 yards to Kansas State and 535 to Oklahoma State.

The Jayhawks are allowing close to 500 yards per game, they’re dead last in the nation in scoring defense, partly because they’re dead last in the nation at stopping teams on third downs, partly because they’re among the worst teams in the nation at generating any pressure into the backfield.

TCU has been painfully inconsistent, but it should finally run well for the first time in weeks, and …

NFL Expert Picks: CFN Week 11

What’s Going To Happen

There’s still a bowl game to play for.

It’s a long shot after losing four of the last five games and six of the last eight, but pull off the season home finale on Senior Day, and six days later there’s a chance at Iowa State to play for a swag bag game.

Will Kansas QB Jalon Daniels – the hero of the win over Texas – play, or will he take a redshirt, as was the plan this year? He’ll play – most likely – but he doesn’t play defense.

Kansas (26-3) vs. TCU (16-13) Game Preview

Why TCU Will Win

It’s possible to keep the score low and hang around with the high-powered Jayhawks.

TCU got whacked 60-46 to them back in early February, but it was able to D up a bit in the second half. KU doesn’t throw up a bunch of threes, and it’ll be happy to hang around with a slower pace. Yeah, it’s winning, but it hasn’t hit 70 points in five of the last eight games.

TCU won’t be afraid to keep jacking up the threes, and it’s great at moving the ball around to get the open shots. It leads the Big 12 in made threes, but …

“Go to the bank!” Today’s top pick of the day just released

Why Kansas Will Win

Kansas was able to keep TCU from hitting from the outside in the first game. This is the best defense in the Big 12 and third-best in the country – it’s able to clamp down when needed.

The shooting wasn’t there – the Horned Frogs connected on 23% from three – and even worse, it got hammered on the boards. The inside presence isn’t there to deal with what the Jayhawks can do with second chance points on one end, and ending possessions on the other.

What’s Going To Happen

TCU might have beats Baylor last week, but Kansas is playing way too well. In the final home game of the year, it’s going to crank up the intensity and won’t have a problem defensively. TCU – who lost its last eight road games – will keep shooting from the outside, but it won’t be effective enough.

Kansas (19-3) vs. TCU (13-9) Game Preview

If want in on this week’s games, sign up with BetMGM

Why Kansas Will Win

Kansas is red hot and TCU … isn’t.

The Jayhawks are coming in on a seven-game winning streak and TCU has lost six of its last seven games, mainly because there’s no Horned Frog offensive pop.

TCU is struggling to score when it’s not bombing away from three. For a team that’s having problems manufacturing points, not being able to do anything from the line hurts – TCU doesn’t get to the free-throw line, and it’s not doing anything once it gets there.

The Jayhawk interior presence and the defense is good enough to lock down from three – the perimeter defense is great – to do just enough to keep Desmond Bane and the rest of the guards from getting hot.

“Go to the bank!” Today’s top pick of the day just released

Why TCU Will Win

The threes have to drop.

TCU leads the Big 12 from three, and it’s going to keep bombing away no matter what. Kansas might be active enough to lock down at times from the outside, but one big run should keep the game alive.

As bad as things have been for the Horned Frogs, they’re not all that bad in the Ed and Rae, winning the previous four home games before the 62-61 loss to Texas.

They move the ball around well, have just enough interior defense to keep Kansas from dominating when its not on the move, and again …

What’s Going To Happen

It all comes down to the threes.

TCU is in a bad matchup. It can’t get on the move against the Jayhawks, and it’ll have a nightmare of a time if this bogs down in any sort of a half-court battle. Kansas will win, but TCU will do just enough at home to keep this from getting too ugly.

The Horned Frog offense will go cold from three just enough to not go on the run needed to turn the season around.
